I do know better because an Ancient Book says so.

I am not trying to make God appealing.
I am not sure you can. Your book says that a rape victim must marry her rapist and allows for beating slaves as property. I used to think that all of you think this is wrong but you are just trying to reconcile it with your faith. After talking with taken I am not so sure anymore.

Oh yes you can. Faith in Christ brings the Spirit of God into play. Our spirits are alive unto Him and we can know the things He has given to us and for us. We have a knowing that you who are of the world do not have.

(1 Cor. 2:12) "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."

How great is our God.

Stranger
Okay Stranger. Well I've got to scoot, my BF and his girlfriend want me to help them paint their kitchen early in the morning. Time for Zzzz.

Let me ask you Christian's a question.

You believe that Jesus has died for your sins, and therefore takes the burden of those sins off your shoulders. No matter how much you Christian's mess up this side of life, so long as you believe that Jesus died for you, you are absolved of the penalty of all your sins.

Please explain to me how this POV doesn't make you completely irresponsible, and prevents you from taking personal steps in changing your bad nature.

Because if you really believe some guy has taken the fall for you, your a complete coward. Okay, it's like this.

I do something real bad in life, and there is no way out for me but the chopping block. But I hatch a plan to get some other smuck to take the heat for me. So I go and setup my only daughter to take all responsibility, and then I sit back while her head goes to the block.

That's basically what you Christian's are telling me to believe, like it's so noble to let someone else pay for your stupidity.

Another perspective could begin at God subjected the creation to vanity and also subjected the same creation to Hope in Christ. Adam and Eve saw they were naked and hid from God. Notice God didn’t find them naked and attack them with criticism. They hid themselves. Their first act of trying to please and work for God’s approval and love... began on their part at believing the lie of evil spoken in God is not and cannot never be merciful. You have another thread titled to know good and evil. Wasn’t the evil knowing they were naked and hiding from the One who created them and not trusting in His voice when He called them and instead they trusted another voice? Their whole perspective of God changed and they believed the lie about who God is. He was no more love but would be vengeful and punishing. There was no more trusting Him to come from behind where they hid when He called but rather they followed a voice meant to destroy and divide. Who told them their nakedness was to be ashamed of? Have you ever considered who created them..Who formed them and sculpted them in the fashion of His likeness then said "it is good'. God had seen everything they were then they hid and in return changed God’s image from love and acceptance and mercy to vain works to try to please and atone. To hide from the one who created all things.

The law was so High no flesh could ever fulfill all it required. It required death to vain attempts to cover and hide and called for submission to “it is finished”. This is why I have faith in the death of the Son and His resurrection into Life abundantly. Not because someone took my whipping but because the Word was made flesh, in the likeness of sinful flesh and God crucified “you are naked” so man could approach Him. Not because God needed it but man needed it to come out of hiding. The Word made flesh and dwelt among us to remove the obstacle. Not that God required the covering but the bondage of vanity required it. He removed what prevents...the flesh and fully demonstrated it wasn’t about the flesh in nailing sin to the cross. In setting the bar so High where flesh could never reach to end vain outward working and striving for approval; instead Man could enter into the Rest God provided and seize from works. You say this allows another to pay and one can remain guiltless while another takes the whipping. Man needed the whipping in taking out of the way what kept Him hiding in the shadow. How many people have you hurt or destroyed by a lifetime of endless selfish works to please others, to be good enough, to fill a whole, to have value, to have worth, to be seen or heard...to stop the voice inside that echoes you are not worth Love or forgiveness. To be hungry and thirsty for something never obtainable or achieved but always out of reach. To devour and consume others for a short temporary fix that never lasts or satisfies but is false? A delusion. Why do you think the Pharisees needed those outward works and to suppress or prevent others while garnishing their own temples...vanity. He(Jesus Christ) told their truth that on the inside they were tombs of dead bones? Why do you think the Pharisees were willing to devour widows homes and take and rob and prevent others from coming to God when He called? The Pharisees were in hiding with Adam and Eve because vanity requires covering up the truth in favour of the lie. Are you dead inside? Never content? Paul said He could be content in any situation...how? Often heard debated why did Adam and Eve eat of the forbidden fruit and disobey God? Maybe a better question would be why did they hide from the Living God Who desires mercy and not sacrifice? Did they not know His mercy? Why do the angels want to look into it? Why did Adam and Eve follow another that whispered “you are naked.” Why did they not step out immediately into the light when He called in the garden but instead preferred the dark out of the sight of God? I'd read somewhere once under a different screenname you said you never could please God. No matter what you did when you were seeking and asking...it was never enough. He said "It is enough." See a mass of people hiding with Adam and Eve from the voice of God as He calls...the mass of others hiding with you in fear of being naked and exposed, they grab your arm everytime you make any movement to step out of the hiding place. They tell you to not go to God because you are crap and hideous and nasty and never good enough. They tell you that you really don't want to step out into the light as you hear His voice calling you to do so. they say they have freedom but hold you back whispering "but you are naked'. Why was The Son on the cross naked, hanging weak and vulnerable and lifeless before all mankind...if not God saying to those hiding as Adam and Eve, "Come out of where you hide. It is finished. I know what you did...still come out." Is He mercy or not? Jesus Christ said His sheep know His voice and they will Not follow another voice. Adam and Eve followed another voice into death. Those who step out from where they hide when He calls; follow His voice into Life.

As far as regrets. As far as kicking-back on a free-ride while someone else is punished. Looking back on what hiding has cost everyone and everything brings sorrow, especially when God is always there "reaching out still". Why does an addict cover their shame but the shame is still there no matter how much they hide. Vanity requires and demands and it is a heavy burden. Just ask a world on antidepressants what heavy burdens and pressures can do to a person. To never be good enough. That is not His message. His message is to stop hiding. Approach a merciful God and tell Him what you have done.

Christianity is just a cult that celebrates the death of one man. That you must believe another person has to die for you to escape your personal responsibility.

It is not true morality, and it is not healthy to think that you can throw your issues onto someone else.

Like Richard Dawkins said.

"If God wanted to forgive, why didn't he just forgive?"

I do something real bad in life, and there is no way out for me but the chopping block. But I hatch a plan to get some other smuck to take the heat for me. So I go and setup my only daughter to take all responsibility, and then I sit back while her head goes to the block.

Ha

I’ve asked the same question many times. Yes, I think many Christian doctrines appear to promote this idea. Two of the problems are found in One-Saved-Always-Saved doctrine. The other is what I refer to as ‘altar call’ doctrine.

OSAS doctrine claims that Jesus died for our sins and all we have to do is sincerely believe that Jesus died for our sins, ask Him to forgive our sins, and to become our God and Savior - once! And then, we are instantly “saved” without ever having to worry about losing our salvation ever, no matter what we do.

Alter call doctrine is the constant drumbeat to rededicate your life to Jesus!

The do-over.....

Like a marriage relationship that has fallen out of the honeymoon phase, our relationship with Jesus needs a tune up as much as possible.

Ironically, the OSAS Christians often promote alter call doctrine, despite being saved forever....

I think both doctrines together, promote a special kind of complacency + an emphasis on remaining in the feel good honeymoon stage. No growth tends to foster anti-intellectualism plus a lack of personal responsibility.

There used to be a bumper sticker out there that said, “I am not perfect, just forgiven”, which sums up the situation I am describing

“My behavior gets a pass, but when it comes down to it, I am Right.”

You know that the "Honeymoon" belief promotes the concept of sexual congress.

No idea what that is.

All I know is that all relationships take participation from everyone involved.

I am a Christian
I believe Jesus’s message and ministry
I enjoy prayer and worship and serving my neighbors who are in need, which is loving God and my neighbor.
I do not need to judge, just love
I do not need any do-overs or honeymoons
I believe Christ came to heal the sick and wellness is peace of mind and the journey to salvation

There are certainly many who go quickly without thought or prayer through the wide gate of destruction, but there also be a few who seek and are shown the strait and narrow Gate leading to Life. So long as you are looking at only those taking take very wide gate you are missing the most important thing... to God and to men.

Yes, if you can get through the cherubim that stand in your way.
That which bars the way is actually the flaming two edged sword which is Jesus which is the Word of God. That is why it was Jesus who was sent to us to bring to us a Way to receive Life to replace the death we already had. People cannot get through Jesus to the right Tree because they are unprepared and do not want to be bothered to do it God's Way. Many of them like it so well on both sides of the fence they straddle it and guess what?

"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." Rev 3:15-16
