Or...This is a good point.
Winning a debate demands that you dictate the pace while presenting information.
The word in truth is given to many, but only in the end is it known by some.

That debate is futile. What Do You Learn from Debate?
That does not apply on this topicYou quote the scriptures wherein it says "If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret." But when "one interprets", you reject the Spirit.
Do you not know this is blasphemy according to the same word?
There is "interpret", and then there is "interpret."All we can do is interpret, Scott
Conveniently...according to you. That does not apply on this topic
You are giving your own private interpretationThere is "interpret", and then there is "interpret."
In the context of which I quoted, "interpretation" is not "what we think things mean" by our own private interpretation, but rather what the Spirit says.
Maybe I missed it but tongs come up regarding debate?Conveniently...according to you.
But in truth, it applies anywhere the are divers tongues regarding knowledge from God.

No I was quoting scripture. What's your excuse. You are giving your own private interpretation
Of course...that is the point of the word from Paul.Maybe I missed it but tongs come up regarding debate?
No...that is not biblical.Doesn’t matter. It is still opinion.
Sure - Spirit lead opinion is more valuable than where some people usually pull their opinions from,, but it is still opinion. It is all we have to give besides love
True...as long as opinion is a part. That debate is futile.
Conveniently...according to you.
But in truth, it applies anywhere there are divers tongues regarding knowledge from God.
WORD!I have learned that we like to be right - we will fight to the death for our opinion on the Truth, rather than focusing on connecting with others. I find this disturbing. I do not believe Christ intends us to put doctrine before people.
We all know that doctrine doesn’t save anyone; it is Christ’s love and forgiveness that saves us......so why do we hammer each other to death over petty doctrinal differences?
I have also learned that a small group of people who post on this site have warped Christianity in subtle but profound ways, for example - “the ends justify the means”, “Love is weakness”, “ridicule, mocking, and attempts to annihilate different points of view are seen as valid weapons for fighting perceived enemies,” “a redefinition of who our neighbors are,” “and hatred for perceived enemies, despite a call to love our enemies,”
Nothing in this list is Christian and it is all recorded here until Judgment. It is a condemnation of self.
I have also learned that the majority of people who post here are Christian and put love of neighbor before being right. This board remains one of the rare Christian communities on the web and I am glad to be apart of it.
Finally, I have discovered that Truth cannot be created or possessed by us. We can not even express it without adding aspects of ourselves, which is a good and a bad thing. If we recognize that every thought and expression of thought we generate is, in fact, opinion, even when it is Truth we are commentating on; we can realize we need each other to see a fuller picture of what is true and real and good.
Hi @Mayflower,I saw this question and thought it was a good one to ask. What is the purpose of debate? What have you learned personally from debating with other Christians? What is your favorite part about debating? What is your least favorite part about debating?
I guess personally I like to read the discussion at times. I don't like what feels like arguing, which I guess is debating.
Debate is good, because not one person has all the truth or knowledge. So by gathering together and discussing what they have learned, a Christian fellowship can grow together. That does not happen often, because pride and ego of humans come into play, so not many want to admit they are not Jesus Christ reborn and may need another's help to understand the full meaning of what they think they know.
Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
Argument is evil, we are told by the Word of God, because arguing is different then debate. Argue means you think you know everything, so you are trying to "outsmart" everyone else to prove you are superior in a malice self righteous way. While debate is an "iron sharpens iron" of fellow Christians, wanting to share and grow out of love and mutual respect of each other.
You were not quoting Scripture. That is book chapter and verse which you do not do.No I was quoting scripture. What's your excuse.
That is your interpretation but not what it saysOf course...that is the point of the word from Paul.
