I just read through a profound discussion going on at CF over how the gifts of prophecy should be governed in the church. I gave a response just a second ago. Thought it might be something we should talk through as well. Relevant to the future of the end-time church.

Help with 1 Cor 14:32

A New Testament prophet is not quite like an OT one. There is no exclusivity for one thing. Many people receive revelation from God...so then church should be open to allow freedom of expression in the assembly.

Since there is no exclusivity...other members who also received revelation can confirm or deny what was previously prophesied.

So we are to encourage prophecy...but with correction in place from other "prophets."

Oversight in the church is not to shut people down...but to free them up and encourage them to open their hearts and minds to God. As long as there is good order...the church leadership should just sit back and pray. The prophets are subject to the prophets.

Let the Body function.

If the members are too immature to listen to what God is saying...THEN, oversight needs to regulate and correct the lack of spiritual discernment in the members. This is meant to get people back on track...not discourage them from further revelations from God...as what normally happens.

Love believes and hopes all things...yes, even the spiritual growth of the church! :)

That said, I would ask you for more clarification on the following statement:

The main objective of prophets of old was to announce the Word of God.
Jesus is the last and final revelation from God.
There can be no new prophecy...only established prophecy can be clarified or be better understood because of tools that are at our disposal....Greek is better understood today...not all believers in the early church knew Greek, but they did follow what the Apostles taught. New cultural norms...etc.

There is nothing new under the sun!

That said, I would ask you for more clarification on the following statement:

There is no ministry that can replace one's own connection to God. Jesus is the only Mediator. The head of every man is Christ.

This is not to confuse the truth that there IS authority in the church. The authority of a specific anointing to overseership from the Holy Spirit. But not an authority to have dominion over the faith of others. We are to be helpers...spiritual helpers...of one another.

The biblical authority is for order and to keep the spiritual direction firmly fixed on the Lord and His kingdom. Anything else is to be given over to the freedom we all have in Christ.

By "with correction in place from other prophets," you mean the general leadership of the church then, yes?

I believe that as Spirit filled Christians we all have the ability to occasionally give a word of prophecy to the church or to an individual without necessarily being called 'prophet'. To me prophecy is the way God speaks things into being, it's also an encouragement and a way of building up. I have had other people give me prophecy and I have given a word of prophesy to others, also have had God directly prophesy about my live and had him confirm it years later.

All these examples of the way God works in our lives shouldn't be dismissed or taken lightly, but taken on board as being part of his awesomeness

Many years ago, at the start of my walk with God, he gave me a personal word that one day I would no longer be a grain of sand. It was something that I thought about often and thought of sand as a cleanser, sand in glass making and other things. Then I forgot about it until one day a couple of years ago I was having a quiet prayer time and suddenly an inner voice said, 'I have made you into a pearl'. Hence the alias.

Hey, God's Grace. This was more of a thread for those who are Pentecostal-oriented, so I was trying to direct that particular faction here to the thread. I knew it would turn into a debate over Cessationism if I didn't, LoL.

If you can, let's save the Cessationist debate for another thread if possible. I wanted to limit it to those who see things from the Charismatic perspective giving their insights into what the CF thread was discussing.
