So you think kids should be able to participate in Halloween?
i have no issue with it provided it is done in innocence and in fun.. i will also echo what willy said we have allowed satan to control . little children do not understand .they need the innocence of lil children to grow up. its not safe going house to house any more .the only power satan has is what we give him..............

We've let Satan steal Prayer from schools, the respect for our country, the sacredness of real marriage, even the Rainbow and the word "Gay".... just to name a few things. How much more are we content to let him say we have to forfeit?
amen

My family hasn't celebrated Halloween for many years. IMHO, it glorifies death and evil (skeletons, tombstones, witches, etc.). When we lived in the city, we handed out candy with gospel tracts to kids who came to the door. I have read that Satanists do some pretty evil things on this day, so these days, I generally pray against evil and esp. for children.

Here's some interesting info about the day:

The origins of Halloween are Celtic in tradition and have to do with observing the end of summer sacrifices to gods in Druidic tradition. In what is now Britain and France, it was the beginning of the Celtic year, and they believed Samhain, the lord of death, sent evil spirits abroad to attack humans, who could escape only by assuming disguises and looking like evil spirits themselves. The waning of the sun and the approach of dark winter made the evil spirits rejoice and play nasty tricks. Believe it or not, most of our Halloween practices can be traced back to these old pagan rites and superstitions.

There are differing opinions on this. Some say this is how it started, others say it started, as the name suggests, as all hallows eve, the night before All Saint's Day.

Yes, I'm aware of this, but I'm inclined to believe that the holiday has pagan roots and was "Christianized" by Rome.

I don't watch TV shows that glorify evil.

However, I can't go into a store these days without seeing the evil symbols of Halloween, and it really hacks me off.

I said it was my opinion. I'm not dictating to anyone how they should view Halloween or whether they should celebrate it. If you want to dress up like the Sugar Plum Fairy and light a Jack-O-Lantern, have at it. But only if you post a pic of yourself. :D

Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. Ephesians 5:11

Anyone who reads the origins of Halloween, previously All Hallows Eve, previously Soween, far back enough will know that it is no joke.

Who can make a clean thing from an unclean? No one! Job 14:4

You can't make it harmless simply by calling it something else or by changing the rituals into candy. It is still the same at it's core as it was when it was conceived.

solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:14

This is a matter of discernment and immature believers or luke warm Christians simply aren't developed enough spiritually to know what is from the enemy.

All that aside I agree with using the day to evangelize as long as we don't participate in the festival itself.

One thing I like about Halloween is going into a store right after it's over. I can get candy cheap sometimes. I am so cheap sometimes.

It was a pagan tradition that originated in England. For a long time though, Guy Faulkes Day got celebrated more. Now fewer people do that and more are doing the Americanized version of Halloween. It mostly bored me even as a child. I didn't see why it was fun to dress up and pretend to be scary. I didn't get it. Here's a link about the origin if you're interested in the history.

It depends which country you live in. Halloween in America is a different thing to Halloween in the UK.

Living in the UK, where there was NO Halloween when I was a child (it started to come in during the 80s), I regard it as an American import with nothing to recommend it. Elderly people dread it. We don't participate, and the churches organise alternative activities for the children of Christian families.

Do you put a sign on your door saying you don't participate? I was thinking of doing that this year and putting tracts out for people instead.
