Most have heard, read, or understand that the scriptures are living….the Living Word of God.

Some believe that the Bible is the living Word of God because it is the knowledge given to us from the “living God” Who is alive and works in this world through His living Word in conjunction with Christ and the Holy Spirit

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

1st Peter 1:22-24
You have made your souls pure by obeying the truth through the Holy Spirit. This has given you a true love for the Christians. Let it be a true love from the heart. You have been given a new birth. It was from a seed that cannot die. This new life is from the Word of God which lives forever. All people are like grass. Their greatness is like the flowers. The grass dries up and the flowers fall off.

What is the meaning of these scriptures?

Does the scriptures have something more for us than what was understood at the close of the Bible?

If so, how do you think that guidance or information is manifested? People have different opinions on that.

Is it to the church?
Is it to the individual?
Can the message be conflicting between individuals?

Some thought provoking questions! To clarify, you are asking if the Lord is still speaking through the word and revealing things that the current church does not see, yes? If that is what you are asking, I would say most certainly. I don't think it is so much that the Lord didn't reveal things during NT times, but more that we have lost or polluted some things due to false teaching creeping into the church. I believe many still hold to false interpretations of scripture gong back to as far as the 2nd and 3rd centuries, though without realizing it.

Would such revelation manifest to individuals or to the church... both probably, while manifesting to individuals first but then being confirmed by the Spirit of God in others and eventually being adopted by the church.

Can the message be conflicting between individuals... Well, let's put it this way: God could well have one segment of the church focusing on one truth yet another on a different truth; one that is seemingly almost contrary. For instance, I believe at the current time that God has one segment of the church stressing the grace message, whereas another segment is stressing works of righteousness as the proper response to grace. Is the grace message a truth from God? Most certainly it is. Only grace without works is dead, and an over-emphasis on grace alone at the expense of works would get things out of balance, as would a works only message.

Ultimately, the true end-time church will teach a proper balance on these things, and move past all of it to greater things. But that time has not come yet.

So in short, can and will God continue elaborating on the scriptures? Yes. But that's just my take on it. Maybe you have a different opinion. Just thought I'd get the ball rolling, as these seem like some fairly pertinent questions to be asking : )

Blessings in Christ, Grailhunter!

Blessing to you HIH,
Yes, right in one. I am asking if God can or does reveal new understandings or even new information through the scriptures or through "manifestations" of Christ or the Holy Spirit? I am leaving this open for discussion. It is a broad topic that can expand easily....so let's see where it goes.

According to Jesus, the words are "spirit." As such, they are both as God, "the same yesterday, today, and forever", and also actively hidden and also revealed according to the appointed time(s) as revelations from God.

It is only because of the variable of revelation at the appointed time(s) that comes "each in his own order" that becomes the "different opinions." One looks out at one point on the pathway and claims what he sees, and another looks out at another point and claims something different--which things are only different by perspective. This is the issue with atheists: Looking on at the claims of a babe compared with that of one who is mature, they claim error by their own ignorance. But a wise man knows that one school of though learned over time does not change the truth.

Thank you for your reply. I knew that perspectives would be part of the discussion.

The Scriptures elaborate in themselves when Scripture is compared with Scripture. God and Christ reveal themselves in the written Word. And the Bible is sufficient for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteousness.

Thanks, but am I understanding you, that you do not believe in new revelations?

There will be no new revelations. What was to be revealed has been revealed, and the last chapter of the last book of the Bible -- [THE] REVELATION -- or Apokalupsis (Ἀποκάλυψις), makes that perfectly clear.

Most have heard, read, or understand that the scriptures are living….the Living Word of God.

What is written in the scriptures certainly would lead a person believe that the Word of God is alive. However, are those written scriptures themselves that Word of God?

Some believe that the Bible is the living Word of God because it is the knowledge given to us from the “living God” Who is alive and works in this world through His living Word in conjunction with Christ and the Holy Spirit
And then when we 'hear' from God in other places and ways, other than in a written Bible, is that not also the Word of God? What is the difference between what the written in the book, called the Bible, and the Son of man, named Jesus who walked the streets of Jerusalem about 2,000 years ago?

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." John 1:14 This is why he tells us to eat his flesh, but his dead flesh will not accomplish the purpose alone. We must also drink his blood? How do you suppose we do that?

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Consider the verses from scripture that Jesus quoted as opposed to the verses from scripture that the tempter spoke when he came to Jesus [Matt 4:1-10].

Were the words of the tempter Alive even when quoted correctly from scriptures? Jesus answered him once this way: "... It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Matt 4:4

The Word of Life came from where? "out of the mouth of God"! Is the written Bible the mouth of God?

And the devil said this to Jesus: "...If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone." Matt 4:6

And Jesus responded: "...It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." Matt 4:7 [from Deut 6:16]

Were not the devil's words in Matt 4:6 taken verbatim from that same book of scriptures [Ps 91:12] which God inspired the psalmist to write?

1st Peter 1:22-24
You have made your souls pure by obeying the truth through the Holy Spirit. This has given you a true love for the Christians. Let it be a true love from the heart. You have been given a new birth. It was from a seed that cannot die. This new life is from the Word of God which lives forever. All people are like grass. Their greatness is like the flowers. The grass dries up and the flowers fall off.

The seed cannot die? If that is so, is it not because it is the Word of God? Why is it that sometimes in some hearts the seed is unfruitful or even removed from hearts into which it was planted?

David prayed in this way:

"Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me." Psalm 51:11

Do we have a "better" holy spirit than David had? Is that why the Bible translators sometime capitalized it into Holy Spirit in the NT? Did God, the unchangeable God, make such a distinction?

And then from Jesus:

"And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold." Matt 13:3-8

Then in explaining that parable to his disciples he begins with these words:

"When any one heareth the word of the kingdom..." Matt 3:19. Is not the word of the kingdom that same Word of God about we speak today?

What is the meaning of these scriptures?

Does the scriptures have something more for us than what was understood at the close of the Bible?

If so, how do you think that guidance or information is manifested? People have different opinions on that.

Is it to the church?
What is the Church? Is it not the Body of Christ?

"Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular." I Cor 12:27
"So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another." Rom 12:5

"And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence." Col 1:18

So then it would seem that what is written is directed to us, if we are the Body of Christ, if we are indeed the Church!
Is it to the individual?

"But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
For the body is not one member, but many." I Cor 12:11-14

Many members, many men but becoming one in him, how? The Word of God directed to each of us so that each may properly perform his function in the Body of Christ?

"But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ." Eph 4:7

"But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love." Eph 4:15-16

Can the message be conflicting between individuals?
Not the messages sent to different individuals who are actually in, or who are to be in, the Body of Christ. But on the way there some of those 'parts' or 'joints' [you and me] may get sidetracked because we follow the wrong leader for a moment or even longer... People without the love of truth will be deluded [II Thess 2:10-11] and believing they are right blindly fall into a ditch or follow a blind leader into a ditch. This is why the Apostle Paul also warns us NOT to quench the Holy Spirit in us. The Holy Spirit must lead or we will walk blindly stumbling and falling no matter what doctrines we hold, no matter how verses of scripture we have memorized.

So then how does this relate to the written scriptures and Word of God? The written scriptures alone are a dead letter now, today, as they were when the devil quoted scripture in trying to tempt Jesus. What brings the dead letter to Life?

"Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter
killeth, but the spirit giveth life." II Cor 3:5-6

It is the Holy Spirit that will bring the letter that we consume to Life within us. In the book of the Bible unopened, unread, it remains a dead letter. In us, by the Holy Spirit in us, those words we have consumed in God's time are quickened [brought to Life]

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63

"And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." I Cor 15:45

"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" I Peter 3:18

There will be no new revelations.
well to a little kid there would be i guess. I sure get new revelations pretty much daily, hope they never run out myself

"The Bible dwarfs and darkens the Giza Plateau, the Nazca Lines and Stonehenge in compass and complexity. It contains information that we thought we didn't have until the twentieth century, and it stands to reason that the Bible contains information that we don't even know about yet. The Bible has baffled the intelligentsia of every age, and still manages to comfort even the most modestly capable reader."

The Word of Life came from where? "out of the mouth of God"! Is the written Bible the mouth of God?

“The Word of Life” ...John 16:27-28 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. [28] I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

“The Word of Life” was made flesh. Thought a lot about that “made flesh” and subjected to the corruption of men yet without corruption. That same “Word of Life” coming out from the Father; tasted of death, and returned to the Father not void, nor empty, nor unprofitable, but as the Resurrection Life and the way of reconciliation unto the Father.

The seed cannot die? If that is so, is it not because it is the Word of God? Why is it that sometimes in some hearts the seed is unfruitful or even removed from hearts into which it was planted?

“The seed cannot die?” Isn’t that “seed” of promise here: Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

”Why is it that sometimes in some hearts the seed is unfruitful or even removed from hearts into which it was planted?” John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

What is the Church? Is it not the Body of Christ?

consider the word “fellowship”. Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Could not the same be said of the body in the power to becomes the Sons of God:

Isaiah 53:3-4 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. [4] Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

”It was from a seed that cannot die. This new life is from the Word of God which lives forever.” Revelation 1:18
[18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
^ This New Life is from the Word of God which lives forever.

“All people are like grass. Their greatness is like the flowers. The grass dries up and the flowers fall off.” Their greatness or glory or self-righteousness does not endure but fails. It is temporal, fading or waxing old. Hebrews 1:11-12 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; [12] And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

John 19:23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
(Without beginning and end, eternal, everlasting, enduring... “woven throughout”)
Revelation 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
Revelation 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Remember that we are to be as Jesus. In His case the Word was made flesh to dwell among us [see John 1:14] so that He could be the Light among us so that we could see. In our case, we need to get to where He started. He was the Word at the beginning on his walk among us. We need to consume that Word, that flesh [John 6:53] as to have Life and be the Light for others as He was and is...

"In him was life; and the life was the light of men." John 1:4

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12

But as of his prayer to the Father, Jesus was no longer in the world...

"And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are." John 17:11

We are in the world and now...

"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." Matt 5:14 The "ye" is you and me and anyone else who is eating of His flesh and drinking of His blood!

So then what does this mean?
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" John 11:25-26

What is the Church? Is it not the Body of Christ?
consider the word “fellowship”. Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

"The fellowship of his sufferings"?

"Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also." John 15:20

Remember also here that we are His Body. The Head of the Body of Christ suffered and died on the cross. We, you and I, and all of the rest of the Body will also be persecuted, will we not? We must also die to the ways of our flesh, must we not? Jesus overcame the world of temptations to his flesh. We must also overcome the world of our temptations...

"...To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life,..." Rev 2:7 Then having eaten, what saith it?

"And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:" Gen 3:22

They were corrupted and could not eat, but...

"So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory." I Cor 15:54

Death is supposed to be behind, passed? 1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

Hebrews 2:15
[15] And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

As I see it, we were all of us born dead to our natural mothers. So, yes, when a person really is born again, death is behind.

Confusion sometimes comes into play because people don't all have the same meaning in mind when they speak of death or of life. There is a physical death of the physical body. There is another death. Sometimes scripture speaks physical death on the surface which is a type of shadow of the other death. Adam and Eve, I believe, died immediately when they disobeyed God... but not physically. They were walking and talking still, but what God recognizes as Life was gone from them. But... that thing which each of us has called life by men in general must be killed completely before we can be completely and finally Alive. Can a person be dead to the ways of the flesh while the flesh still walks and talks? I would say, yes, but that could even more confusing if we analyze it too closely.

Being 'born again' or 'born from above' is only the beginning of Life. That is the Life that never needs to end... but if we lose our "first love" what happens then? This is where the delusion comes into play making a person believe he has Life, when it is gone from him.

What is the meaning of these scriptures?

Does the scriptures have something more for us than what was understood at the close of the Bible?

If so, how do you think that guidance or information is manifested? People have different opinions on that.

Is it to the church?
Is it to the individual?
Can the message be conflicting between individuals?

What is the meaning of these scriptures?
It is about truth.
Does the scriptures have something more for us than what was understood at the close of the Bible?
There is nothing more than truth.
If so, how do you think that guidance or information is manifested? People have different opinions on that.
Opinions come from self, and not from truth. Truth is untouchable by anything untrue or dishonest. The self cannot 'touch' Truth. Only Truth 'touches' the heart/soul/being through our own honesty of consciousness, in other words, through surrender of self.

Is it to the church? No, it's the Truth.
Is it to the individual? No, it's the Truth.
Can the message be conflicting between individuals?
No, Truth has no versions of Itself. It is not in conflict with Itself.
