In 1 Timothy 3:15-16 The subject is the living God. This is who the 'He' is in the ASV. Try it in another translation.

1Ti 3:15-16 KJV But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. (16) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: (He) God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
.
Bingo! The context follows that the "he" is contextually God. It's amazing to me that one would use this text to try to disprove the trinity and deity of Christ, "the writer used "hos" which means "him" and not "theos" so that means Christ isn't God!" A silly and lame argument.

Ok, I didn't get where you were coming from, that's why I responded. I wouldn't have otherwise.
Have you been paying attention to the discussion at all? I just showed that the manuscripts say He. Why would you just disregard all the evidence and say 'change He with God', without putting up an argument?
Timothy is writing about God, see the preceeding verse. That is the 'He' in verse 16 who was manifest in the flesh.

Simply because a reference is made to God, within a certain context, in the preceding verse, does not follow or necessitate that the pronoun in the proceeding sentence, is still referring to Him. Especially in this case, where Paul changes his subject matter almost verse by verse. Here is a larger extraction from the chapter, you'll see that within 8 verses, the subject changes about 4 times.
8-10: Expectation of a Deacon
11: Women's conduct
12-14: Deacon's Conduct
15: Paul's reason for writing - governance of the Church in light of his absence, which he states his intent explicitly. (God is a secondary or tertiary subject in this context)
16: Profession of the Church's faith

1 Timothy 3:8-16
3:8. Deacons likewise must be men of dignity, not double-tongued, or addicted to much wine or fond of sordid gain, 9. but holding to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10. These men must also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons if they are beyond reproach. 11. Women must likewise be dignified, not malicious gossips, but temperate, faithful in all things. 12. Deacons must be husbands of only one wife, and good managers of their children and their own households. 13. For those who have served well as deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. 14. I am writing these things to you, hoping to come to you before long; 15. but in case I am delayed, I write so that you will know how one ought to conduct himself in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth. 16. By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory.

The above is one of the silliest and weakest arguments I've seen to date in an attempt to deny the deity of Christ due to hos being used in 1 Timothy 3:16 instead of theos.

Throughout church history the church fathers knew this referred to God being revealed in the flesh and they mentioned this time and again.

Christ is YHWH of the OT, eternal God, who became flesh.
P4T: I think you do not want or are not willing to view the context and history of this area of scripture..it is crucial for understanding...

Here's a kind of commentary on 1 Tim 3:16 that make more sense that anything I've seen thus far by those that support the 'forced' corrupted version of 3:16. Yours is the Trinitarian view that sees God as Jesus the man. I let you discover the context as I will only look at the passage itself.

The word ‘God’ was added into this verse deliberately in a few translations to say that God was Jesus who was revealed in the flesh. The KJV lead the way.

Additionally, the passage does not read ‘in the flesh. It says. ‘in flesh’ or as a human being.

The word ‘eusebias’ translated as ‘godliness’ is the best translation into English, although still an incomplete thought in its translation.

Christ is that fleshly manifestation of His (God’s) mystery.

The oldest manuscripts do not have the word ‘God’ or in Greek, ‘theos’ in this verse. Fortunately, modern translators have completed omitted this most probable translators’ error.

Instead of God, they used the word ‘He,’ ‘Who’ or ‘Which’ instead.

Another clear issue with using ‘God’ for the Greek word ‘euebias,’ is that if we just keep reading further into the verse, we then have to say that God was justified in the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the Gentiles, was believed on in the world, and he was received into glory. This would be nonsense as Christ did all these things and not his Father, YHWH.

So, the best translated section of passage should read ‘…great is the mystery of godliness who was revealed in flesh…’ This interpretation says that the secret of Godly thoughts and plans, his word (holiness, piety and godliness) for our salvation was revealed in a human being. His name is Jesus Christ or Yahshua.

Paul tells us how the hidden truth of God’s word was his own kept secret until now, regarding the plan of our salvation and how he would bring this salvation to us. He revealed it though his created Son, Jesus Christ.

God’s truth and plan of salvation was revealed with his word of, and through a man called Jesus whom God himself created, as the last Adam.

Jesus was justified as the bearer of the truth and God’s holiness because he had the Spirit of God residing within him. He was no ordinary man because his human nature was spotless or sinless because the Spirit was always in him. He was born in/by God’s Spirit. God was always with him. The man was not God, although what was in him was his Father’s Spirit.

Jesus was seen by the angels and people heard him preach the great news about salvation to the nations. People believed in Jesus as the Son of God and his Father’s mission on earth. Jesus triumphed culminating by his Father raising him from death, into immortality. (Reference John 17)

Similarly, John 1:14 tells us that the word (messages, the voice of purpose) of God became the the voice and purpose in a human being, of the flesh (human body with (sinless) human nature). This Son of Man sacrificed himself for us without asking anything of us in return (grace) except, for us to believe in him and his Father who sent him. He represented his Father, and he was sent to complete the Father’s plan and mission of salvation for us. In so doing, he also carried the truth of God within him. We all saw this truth displayed as his glory (of holy works) as the glory only given to the one and only Son of God, Jesus Messiah.

Blessings,

He revealed it though his created Son, Jesus Christ.

You make pretense as if I do not know the context or history of this text. Cultish groups mistakenly attempt to use this text as proof that Jesus is not God, just as you do above.

That is a silly argument as context shows the "he" references God.

Christ is not created, he is YHWH of the OT come in the flesh. You are in grave error.

And yet you have no scripture support for your view. None at all. How can any new believer begin to understand this parroted claim of yours. On would be wise to check it out for themselves with such a meaningless response and a waste of words.

Actually, I do. The context of 1 Timothy 3:16 makes the person "He" contextually God. Yes, the context supports this.

Secondly John 12:41 shows that Jesus is YHWH of Isaiah 6:1ff. It is explicitly and concisely stated.

We don't worship a created being, we worship God. He was manifest in the flesh. The name Emmanuel also supports this, note Matthew 1:21-23.

How can any new believer begin to understand this parroted claim of yours.

I've parroted Scripture, Christ is God.

The context of Matthew 11:25-30 answers this as to how any new believer can believe this.

On would be wise to check it out for themselves with such a meaningless response and a waste of words.

You insult then attempt to bless? My response wasn't meaningless, it is biblical.

If you use lower case for the one true God, then you are identifying yourself as a Jehovah's Witness. They deliberately corrupted their New Word Translation to avoid the logical conclusion that Jesus is God, by changing John 1:1 to created a false god and included Polytheism into their false cultic beliefs.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. (John 1:1 New World Translation)

Furthermore, they used the corrupted Westcott-Hort critical text for their New Testament.
I think you meant the New World Translation.
I don't think they used any Greek manuscripts because there were no Greek scholars in their team who transcribed that version, so none of them would have been able to translate from the Greek at all.

Just giving information...

Again it is common of a Trinitarian as yourself, not to use context in scripture they use, let along bring in corroborating scripture support. They usually state a proof of spiritural truth in the form A=B with its scripture reference, chapter and verse, period. Nothing else. And the reader now has to believe that this Trinitarian is saying that their cryptic non-proof is self-evident and not to be questioned by anyone. Just believe me and it's true because most 'Christians' parrot the same thing.

Ex in John 12:41 is the glory of Jesus' work by his Father. It is to the glory of his Father ultimately. His Father glorified his Son as scripture says. Jesus said this when he prayed in the Garden prior to his death. Jesus was never saying he was his own Father and that glory was conceived by himself and not his Father. Isaiah was well aware of the future Savior, the Son of YHWH, not the Son=YHWH! It would be foolish to say that his Son was also his own Father as you suggest. Do you really believe in what you have written in context and without any supporting scripture, that clearly points to your simplistic and erroneous thinking.

Yes, John 12:41 is stated concisely and you do not under the meaning and the context. You make its meaning according to your traditional meaning/view for your impersonal triune god you adore. Admit it! You cannot hide from it. Yours in a nondescript god that has a pagan origin.

I also see you have a deliberate narrow view of what the Greek word for 'worship' means. You have chosen this limited and deliberate translation without any explanation because you want to prove your impossible theory that the SON = the Father. We bow and give adoration to Yahshua, a created human being because he is the Son of God, and it pleased the Father, not that he is God himself. And yes we also worship YHWH the Father as well!!

Emmanuel in Matthew supports that Yahshua was born of his Father's Spirit. YHWH was not only with Yahshua but also the people, as used in this context in the OT as Yah is with us..read the OT to find this common saying. Yah is a constriction of YHWH...it is in the Son's name itself Yah-Shua....salvation is on the man Yahshua..Amen!

Bless you,

Presumably, those who identify as 'Christian,' worship the risen Christ. But why claim to be a Christian if people do not believe Jesus is God and therefore a mere mortal who cannot rise from the dead? The difference is, Jesus rose from the grave and was received up in glory (1 Timothy 3:16) Work out who he really was.

THere is not a single trintarian theologian who would every call the Son, the Father, because according to trinitarian theology, that is the only thing that separates them, their names, and absolutely nothing else, since each is god (yes, lower case). So, the Holy Spirit would never, ever make that mistake also, if true, for that is their sole distinction. Thus, these are superlatives and hyperbole that exclaim Christ's majesty and authority, not his deity.

Earliest manuscripts for Timothy 3:16 say Hos, not theos.
If Henry Ford put on overalls, called himself John Doe and went to work on the shop floor "the only thing that separates John Doe from Henry Ford is the name, and absolutely nothing else."

Henry Ford and John Doe are One. Yahweh and Jesus are One and there is One Spirit for two persons, because they are ONE omnipresent God. Have you got it yet?

Absolutely nothing else separates them.

Correct. That is why only the cultists like the JWs, Unitarians and the Christadelphians, etc. reject the deity of Christ as well as the Trinity. And when a person refuses to believe that Jesus is God, he or she cannot be saved. That is what Christ said, not an opinion.

But Henry would never be called John. Have you got the point yet? ..what about now?
Not to mention Henry & John are not equal in potency, wisdom, job title, credentials, personalities, righteousness, size & stature, experience and knowledge.... There are countless attributes and characteristics that distinguish John, from Henry. How about the colour of their eyes, or their vision?

You just rambled about nothing, outside of your presupposition that Jesus is God. Why don't you try, if you can, to put forth an argument that necessitates your theory?

Think of the TV program 'undercover boss.' Henry's work mates on the shop floor would call him John. That is the name by which they knew him. In reality, Henry Ford and John Doe are one-and-the-same. The angel said to call his name Jesus, but that is not his name in heaven. Two names one person, two names one God. Got it yet? Next you will be telling me Harry Webb is not Cliffe Richards.

You wanted something else:

Jesus is the the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David. Revelation 5:5

He is the promised seed of Adam who would crush Satan’s head (Gen. 3:15).

He is the descendent of Abraham through whom every nation on earth would be blessed (Gen. 12:3).

He is the son of Judah, who reigns eternally as king, whose garments are washed in the blood of grapes, and whose hand is on the neck of his enemies (Gen. 49:8-12).

He is the Passover Lamb who was slain to protect God’s people from the Angel of Death (Exod. 12).

He is the greater son of Israel who came out of Egypt, and He is the great redeemer who brings his people out of a bondage and slavery that is far worse than anything the Israelites experienced there (Exod. 12-14).

He is the true bread from heaven that actually nourishes and feeds his people (Exod. 16).

He is the Rock from whom the only life-giving water flows (Exod. 17).

He is the fulfillment of the Law, perfectly obeying not only the 10 Commandments, but all 613 from the day of his birth (Exod. 20).

He is the One through whom we enter into our lasting Sabbath rest, not just for one day out of seven, but for every day from now through all eternity (Exod. 23:10-12).

He is our great High Priest who offers his very body as an atonement for the sins of his people (Exod. 28-29).

He is the radiance of God, the exact representation of his being, and is the very presence and glory of God among his people, even more than the ark or the pillars of cloud and fire (Exod. 40:34-38).

He is the once for all sacrifice that God offered on the altar on the Day of Atonement on Calvary, and at the same time he is the scape goat that was sent out of God’s presence into the wilderness on account of the sin that he bore (Lev. 16).

He is like the bronze serpent that was lifted up and when people look to him in faith, they find forgiveness and healing (Num. 21).

He is the star that shall come out of Jacob, and the scepter that comes out of Israel (Num. 24:17).

He is a city of refuge for guilty sinners to run into and find shelter (Num. 34).

He gives us every blessing for his obedience to God’s perfect commands, and he paid the price for the curse we deserved for our every disobedience (Deut. 28).

He leads his redeemed people into the Promised Land where they will dwell with him forever (Joshua 3).

He is our conquering warrior, victorious over the powers of sin and death (Joshua 5).

He is the righteous judge and savior who never fails to defend and protect his people when they repent and turn back to him (Judges 2).

He is the offspring of David whose kingdom has been established forever (2 Sam. 7).

He is the very temple of God, which though destroyed was raised again in 3 days (1 Kings 8; 2 Chron. 3).

He is our chief prophet and teacher who restores true religion by calling us away from our idols to return to the One True God (1 Kings 18).

He is leading a remnant out of Babylon back to the Holy Land (Ezra 7).

He is Job’s hope and ours because we know that our Redeemer lives and at the last he will stand upon the earth (Job 19:25).

He is the eternally begotten Son of the Lord Most High, whom kings fear in his anger, and who blesses those who take refuge in him (Psalm 2).

He was for a time forsaken by God on the cross, so that those who are found in him might never be rejected (Psalm 22). And yet, his body did not see corruption, because, as David sang, God did not abandon him to Sheol, but raised him physically with an incorruptible body (Psalm 16).

He is the shepherd of his sheep, who restores the soul of his fold and leads us in paths of righteousness (Psalm 23).

He purges us with a cleanser much stronger than anything the hyssop branch can spatter on us—he washes us clean in his very blood so that we might be whiter than snow (Psalm 51).

At his command the angels would bear him up lest his foot strike a stone, yet he did not call on their aid, but welcomed the cup the Lord had for him to drink (Psalm 91).

He is the greater Son of David who will sit at Yahweh’s right hand until all his enemies are as footstools, and is the priest forever in the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110).

He is the Word of God incarnate, and the only lamp for our path (Psalm 119).

He is the very wisdom of God made manifest in the flesh (Proverbs).

He is the only purpose in life that matters (Ecclesiastes).

Jesus is the Rose of Sharon and the Lily of the Valley, and he is the husband who brings his beloved to the banqueting table and who satisfies her fully in his love (Song of Songs 2).

He is the sign to Ahaz, one named Immanuel and born to a virgin (Isaiah 7).

He is the great light shining to a people walking in darkness, coming out of Galilee of the nations; He is the child born who is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end, and on the throne of David and over his kingdom, he will establish and uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore (Isaiah 9).

He is the shoot coming from the stump of Jesse, and righteousness will be the belt of his waist. During his reign, the wolf will dwell with the lamb and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together, and a little child shall lead them (Isaiah 11).

In his coming, the glory of the Lord is revealed and all flesh shall see it together (Isaiah 40).

He is the Lord’s servant, in whom his soul delights, and with whom he is very well pleased (Isaiah 42).

He is Israel’s only savior and besides him there is no other (Isaiah 43).

He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief. He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. He is the one who bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. He was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we were healed (Isaiah 53).

He is anointed by the Lord to preach good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prisons to those who are bound. He proclaims the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; and he comforts all who mourn (Isaiah 61).

He creates the new heavens and the new earth and he will dwell with his people there forever (Isaiah 65).

He is the balm in Gilead that heals the sin-sick soul; he is the great physician who restores the health of his people (Jer. 8).
