WHERE someone's TREASURE IS (if they have money, for instance),
THERE is where their heart is ALSO.
You cannot serve GOD and mammon. (money, things, possessions)
wanted to bring back up
they were offended by the cost. And how Jesus asked “does this offend you? will you go away also?”
A popular current text, the King James Version shows 1 Timothy 6:10 to be: For the love of money is the rootof all of evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, “
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
Luke 2:34-35 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set
for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; [35] (Yea,
a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that
the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
“a sword to pierce” yet
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Luke 18:22-23 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. [23] And when he heard this,
he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
“and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
Mark 10:21-22 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. [22] And he was sad at that saying,
and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
And went away grieved....consider grieve not the Holy Spirit. Because at the beginning of Mark it say “Then
Jesus beholding him loved him,”
“Behold, this child is set
for the fall and rising again of many in Israel”
Proverbs 16:18-20 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. [19] Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. [20] He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.
The fall comes before the rising again:
James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
