I agree that Christians in other countries have fewer rights (if any) compared with Christians in the U.S., and I make it a practice to pray for them. But our rights here are being whittled away. Under the previous administration, I lost count of how many Christian business owners were sued in the course of following their conscience. I mentioned the baker in Colorado who refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple. There have been others.

I see that you're in Germany. I have prayed many times for the Christian home school families there who are being persecuted. Some parents are going to jail and their children being taken away from them. It's a sad situation.
.
So not being allowed to discriminate against people feels like discrimination to you?

Well I see your plight, but I’m glad you’ve already realized that the plight of others is by far more serious. Why then, do you support a President that callously abandoned Syrian Christians?

As for Germany: As far as I know there’s exactly one family here that insists on home-schooling and I feel sorry for their children. Imho children are not property and have a right to live and learn in Society. There's a difference between parental guidance and brainwashing. Alas, due to Corona I’ve been forced to home-school my boy since March and now I see that it’s also torturous for parents. The only good that came out of it is that my boy came to a fantastic insight: It’s actually possible to miss school. :)

I wasn't offended, I'm glad that President Trump displayed the Bible to everyone because people need to read more of it.
I just wish Trump would not just hold it up but actually read it. He may want to start with the Prophet Isaiah:
"Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow." (Isaiah 1:17)

Just won't let up, will you?? I don't control Trump's comments. I don't have his ear, but I can speak to the hateful comments on this forum...
What a double standard. Why is it okay for you to criticize other people here for what they say, for what you call hateful comments, but it's not okay for people to express their disapproval of some of Trump's behavior?

You have your facts mixed up, my German friend. There has been more than one family in Germany adversely affected by Germany's outlawing of home schooling. My understanding is that the German home school law is a remnant of Hitler's takeover and brainwashing of the youth in your country.

Uwe and Hannelore Romeike and their six children fled Germany in 2008 to seek asylum in the United States so they could home-school their children. Adolf Hitler had banned home schooling in 1938 and the law was never repealed. Rather, it appears the German government has ramped up its opposition to home schooling in the last decade.

The German Supreme Court has stated that the purpose of the home-school ban is to “counteract the development of religious and philosophically motivated parallel societies”

As evangelical Christians, the Romeike parents became aware that the German public school material undermined their own religious beliefs. In 2006, they withdrew their children from the system. But after two years of police visits, plus about $10,000 in fines, the Romeike family decided to seek asylum in the United States. The Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) took up their case.

You don't believe that parents should have the right to raise their children as they see fit? Here in America, the prevailing belief has been that parents do have a right to raise our children as we see fit. I'm pleased that you got a taste of home schooling. Even though I'm a certified teacher and taught in the public schools, I ended up home schooling my children. It was one of the biggest blessings of my life.

I have never said this. You are misrepresenting my views. I have objected to some of Trump's policies in these forums, but I will not mock him.

As I have made very clear in many posts, my bone to pick with you is that you have mocked Trump many times. This is a far cry from criticizing someone.

And Putin moved in and filled the power vacuum and proclaimed himself the great defender of Christianity while the Russian Orthodox Patriarch nodded approvingly. Imagine that: An ex-Communist intelligence officer collaborating with the Russian Orthodox Church so both could increase their power. And Trump basically gave them the green light so an atheist ex-Communist could play Christian hero.

From 2017: https://www.newsweek.com/russia-putin-rebuild-christian-syria-churches-735539

Russia will help rebuild Christian churches in Syria and establish peace in historically Christian regions of the war-torn country, Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed on Monday during a meeting with representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church.

"Over the past few years the Russian state alongside with the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as other religious organizations, has provided humanitarian aid to Syria," Putin told the meeting's attendees, according to Russian state media. "It's very important that the peaceful life is established as soon as possible, that the people can return to their homes; begin to rebuild the temples and churches."

During the meeting, Putin also stressed that the conflict in Syria is winding down and much of the territory, including historically Christian areas, has been liberated.

Ah, now I see. Hate Trump, love Putin. It's all very clear to me now.

Putin touts Christianity. So why is Russia persecuting Christians?

Alright you Trump hating and commie loving democrats....show me all the godly things that the American Communist Party has done. How often do you see a democrat were a cross. Obama would not even where a lapel flag or cover his heart for the national anthem. Trump includes God in most everything he does. Trump is trying to save innocent babies! The communist democrats salivate over the murder of these babies. What have these commies done for labor or the blacks. Unless you are a scumbag they have no interest in you. Protect criminals with sanctuary cities, protect illegal aliens is there battle cry! So what have these low life democrats done for the average tax paying American? Give me a list of how patriotic they are. How godly they are. If you are not for this country, you are the enemy!

It would be nice then if you stopped referring to my comments as "hateful." I read that as an attempt to shame or silence me; and I actually see your saying that a little hateful. It's also an ineffective techique if your goal is to convince someone of something. You can't expect anyone you accuse of being hateful to entertain seriously the other stuff you have to say. That's one of Trump's problems, and it seems to be one of yours as well. I brush it off when you say my comments are hateful.

He amusese me more than anything. He thinks he's so clever, I have to be amused. I see tragedy though. I see it in the farmers who are worried whethey they can sell their crops. I see it in the dairies that have gone bankrupt. I see it in the coal miners who voted for him believing he could bring back jobs in coal. My heart goes out to the people in West Virginia. Jobs in other fields need to be created in West Virginia so that as jobs in coal decline, people won't be suffering as much.

Feb 2019 Coal Comeback? Coal At New Low After Two Years Under Trump

It’s been two years since President Donald Trump took office and began rolling back environmental regulations on the coal industry.

At a November rally in Huntington, West Virginia, the president took credit for a coal comeback in front of a cheering crowd.

“We’ve ended the war on beautiful, clean coal and we’re putting our coal miners back to work,” he said. “That you know better than anybody.”

But federal data about the industry tell a different story.

Mine operators and independent contractors are required to report regular employment information to the Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration, or MSHA. Preliminary figures for 2018 show 80,778 people were employed by mine operators and contractors. That’s a record low, and about a thousand fewer than were employed by coal in the last year of the Obama administration.

Nationwide, coal plant retirements neared a record high, and overall coal production dropped to the lowest level in nearly 40 years, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, a non-partisan government agency that tracks energy trends.

In the Ohio Valley, things looked much the same. In 2018 two prominent Ohio Valley utilities announced a spate of coal power plant closures, federal data show the region lost 150 industry jobs, and Westmoreland Coal, which has a substantial presence in Ohio, declared bankruptcy.

I can laugh at his false promises; but it is sad when he lets down people who voted for him believing him. He may not have to worry about West Virginia since it's so solidly Republican. Losing votes over coal mining there won't matter to him; but it may matter in places in Ohio. Trump won there by over 8%. Biden now has a narrow lead. That loss is support is coming from people he let down, people who believed him once but don't anymore. His lies and false promises have wound up hurting him. Still, people can learn from their mistakes; and I think lots of people who voted for him in 2016 now feel betrayed by a con artist. The lesson is not to believe something a policitian says because you'd like it to be true. What is that politician's track record?

You have certainly given me some things to pray about, and I will be sure to add you to my prayer list as well. No sarcasm here. I'm concerned about your level of vitriol for certain people. It can't be good for you.

Perhaps you should take a look at this: Trump's average unemployment rate is the lowest in recorded history

Boy, did you ever get that wrong. Putin is worse than Trump, but he seems to be more clever or more successful at portraying himself as a patriotic, Christian hero, at least until recently. Putin may be getting his comedown soon as Russia falls apart.

Oh, it seemed that you were praising Putin. Sorry I misunderstood your point.

I posted a link to an article that may put your mind at ease because you seemed to be grieving about the poor people who have lost jobs in the coal industry. Overall, the jobless rate has been very low under Trump prior to COVID-19..

@Stan B has been critical about my support for President Trump, but he does have one good point.

As Christians we are to pray for our leaders. God has placed President Trump, Vice President Pence, Speaker Pelosi, ect. in place for His purposes. God put Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton in place. God raises up these people for His purposes.

This means we do not need to be anxious as God is in control. Pray for our leaders. Stand for righteousness. But be kind to brothers and sisters who have different political views.

Why use the emotionally charged word "vitriol"?

Well, as an English teacher and a writer, I try to make what I write interesting and not overuse certain words. You objected to my saying that you are "hateful" toward Trump, so I chose to use the term vitriol, which means harsh criticism.
