So I don't dismiss it if someone says they were baptized in the Holy Spirit yet never spoke in tongues -- I don't seek to put the Holy Ghost in a box

I might be the only one who feels this way and I am entirely open to correction, but wouldnt falling back be a rebuke like in Acts? Wouldn't you fall forward in God's presence? late 2019, i felt the presence of God and fell forward and was terrified. like it was powerful and I knew Gods hand was on me, but bad things happened to me that night so I am still confused. fell back at revivals because they pushed me back. the Bible says not to be hastey with the laying on of hands. I believe spirits transfer so be careful. There are counterfeits.

Fall back, fall forward, fall to the right, fall to the left....and now you get legalists telling you which way to fall....if the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon you I am sure the direction of the fall has to do with your position at the time...as in my case I couldn't fall forward because I was kneeling at the alter.
Basically, how I describe it, is like losing all strength in my flesh to stand against the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Makes sense to me! I think I got the idea from John McArthur's Strange Fire conference. (I went on a tangent for a while after getting hurt.) I haven't been to a revival in years so maybe at one point or another I experienced it, but for the most part the lady was speaking false things over me and then they pushed me down. Then you're under a lot of pressure from people watching and they're suggesting that you're SUPPOSED TO, so you're like, "oh okay, I guess I'll lay down now."
As much as I like John McArthur, no longer really listen to his stuff. I can't see the love of the spirit in him anymore and he and Todd Friel both seem to be more about rebuking and criticism. They remind me of the new Pharisees. Never thought I would say it in reference to either of them, but "Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

Must have been water baptism.
A pastor can not baptize you in the Holy Ghost.
He can pray and ask the Lord to baptize you in the Holy Ghost.
By John in the New Testament:
"I baptize you with water for repentance, but one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
John was speaking about the Lord Jesus.

That is what I had! I was reading on my phone before and trouble reading everything.
I was laying in bed and felt like I could feel God looking down on me.
Later, I stood up to go get something. I was walking and then I felt like God was in the room and had this feeling of "There is a king in the room and I must bow down" so I fell forward and heard nothing. Was absolutely terrified. Imagine something super powerful looking down on you like - fire. Just pure powerful fire. I heard nothing, said nothing, thought "The hand of God is on me." Stayed down for a few minutes. I was scared.
Had a really bad night that night. So I didn't know if I was in trouble for thinking it was God or if God knew something bad was being planned against me and wanted me to know his hand was on me. I didn't understand it. I am still confused.
Anyway, my understanding with gifts is that God has designed a perfect order to his church and if we're going to be using them, we should respect his order. I have never seen an interpreter in my time, despite being ALL over the states and several different churches. I think the reason for that is nobody is asking for that gift. Nobody asks for the gift of interpreting tongues. They'll ask for tongues but they won't ask to hear tongues.
Someone should, but since they're divided among the body, I don't even know if I would be one to do that because I already have prophecy/word of knowledge/tongues. I am also in constant training, discernment is HARD sometimes, and some prophecies take a long time (YEARS) so sometimes it is very discouraging because there's no immediate results.
I like word of knowledge because then the person can just straight up confirm. Prophecy is difficult for impatient people. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying please pray I have patience because I lack all of the patience. That is my worst character trait. I like emotional security of knowing what is set in stone.

Ah yes, when I was six years old the Catholic priest baptized me with the same words from Matt 28:19. I remember that it was the first time I really knew that there was a God... I knew rather than simply believing it at the age of 6.
Yet, I did not receive the gift of tongues for another 27 years when my active Catholicism was far behind me. It was at that time that I believe I also received the gift of the Holy Spirit. But... I do not believe that everyone with the gift of the Holy Spirit must also have a gift of tongues. I have known more than one person who I believe was led by the Spirit, but did not speak in other tongues at all...

You knew the Hunters? I have a copy of Angels On Assignment in my library. It was one of the first books I read as a born-again Christian.

@Grunt Hemlock just want to thank you for starting the topic. I think it wasnt really needing a subforum, but just bringing the topics up. I know there are a ton of believers here that believe in the signs gifts and signs for today. Hard to just know how to put it in a topic when I am relatively new to most. Even healing, I guess from a "spirit-filled" viewpoint. My prayer life has just radically changed. I feel like I have more faith and authority in what I pray, then add tongues praying, and feel like popping rocks or rice crispies. Snap, crackle, pop. Go God. ^_^

My wife fell out once during a service. I never have. I honestly think it has to do with how much of the Presence of God you are accustomed to dwelling in, and the intensity of His Presence. If it is strong enough it will lay everyone in the building out, but most times it is just enough that certain ones fall out while others don't.
Hidden: I did not KNOW the Hunters - I simply attended a service by them in mid-70's

This community has a fairly high percentage of Charismatics. It's usually the other side of the isle that gets railroaded pretty bad around here.
