This community has a fairly high percentage of Charismatics. It's usually the other side of the isle that gets railroaded pretty bad around here.
Some people are certain that God only works in certain ways which they know. Other ways they do not know and they exclude them. From the other side there are tongue talkers who insist that anyone who does not talk in tongues cannot be saved. Which box does God fit into...? Perhaps He on the outside of all the boxes laughing at all of the box builders and box believers. LOL How perfectly do any of us know God?

For sure...so much division. Hard to know where to draw the line. It is exciting to be able to gain deeper revelation of God's Word.

I never actually met anyone who said those who do not talk in tongues are not saved. I have heard of people like that, but never seen them.

New ground is opened up in this thread - discussing SLAIN IN THE SPIRIT, which is not really a "gift" - and perhaps DREAM stuff, not a gift either...

Well, you mentioned it in op. Didn't even come to mind when I think about the gifts. Dreams aren't really considered a gift. But the words of knowledge/words of wisdom, and prophecy surely are. And not everybody are like Joseph, King of Dreams. I find them fascinating. My experiences are more secret agent though. LOL

Perfectly? That would be nice, LoL. :D

I do contend that some know Him better than others do though. :)

Even the language won't do it sister? Who is a charismatic? I was not even sure of what it meant.. charismatic... until many years after I was already speaking in tongues. I met a Catholic tongue talker at work and learned some things about Catholics I did not know from my own time as a Catholic. That Catholic called himself a charismatic, but I did not look it up at the time. There was no google or Internet at the time. Communication again? Am I a charismatic? I still don't know. Someone on this forum is always talking about evangelicals, but never did define the word even though I specifically asked him to do so.

You want tongue talkers and believers who danced like David danced? I am involved in both areas. I also used to run the aisles, but the old flesh had already gotten too frail and short-winded for much of that for some time now.

To me the word charismatic means someone having charisma [=compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others.]. I am certain that is where your word came from... but then I now looked it up: [=Of, relating to, or being a type of Christianity that emphasizes personal religious experience and divinely inspired powers, as of healing, prophecy, and the gift of tongues.] Wow, I did not know that until now. So maybe it does fit me too...LOL

Had a long-running debate with a guy here on that question. I think for those who are chosen to receive consistently prophetic dreams, yes, it is a gift; more closely akin to a ministry. I know of at least two people who are like this, and they are entirely distinct from the typical believer who has dreams sporadically, and as the Lord so sees fit.

Yeh that definition is what I came to believe. Because I don't know too much about Assembly of God, Pentecostal, etc. But I know I believe in the signs gifts for the most part. Since I changed churches, I sort of feel like I let my hair down, freer, just being my true self. I was afraid for a few years for anyone to know there I prayed in tongues, and once they knew, suddenly I wasn't asked to pray out loud very much, like I would break out in them or something. And then I was told to not pray them over the kids. Of course not. I knew parents wouldn't want that. Not that type of church. It would make the kids feel afraid maybe.

Now though, I think all kids should be prayed for in tongues. I pray over my own. It would just be comfortable not praying as I felt lead too. It is bitterseeet, because I miss my last church greatly. Went there 8 years. Wonderful people. I just believe differently now. I didn't realized I was a bit in a box. I have room to grow more now in my spiritual walk.I am being true to what I believe. Not some chameleon.

Oh yeh, @lforrest should have tagged you. LOL. :)

I don't know, some of you have some pretty impressive experiences. most of my dreams are just dreams or attacks. I have had a few but one of you *ahem* i consider it a gift. God will put out what he wants to, but in my case dreams are more like "you're having a baby brother, you need to stop taking that medication so you don't have a stroke, stop doing witchcraft" warning dreams as rare as tsunamis.

Yes, I remember very early being a bit careful about where I allowed the tongues to come forth or even to whom I admitted I spoke in tongues but that was way back when we were still living and attending church in California.

Many years later not long after coming to Oklahoma, one night in service my wife really got into the Spirit. Finally I half carried her to the car after most everyone else had gone home. She could not speak in English and continued to speak in tongues every time she opened her mouth. She understood me when I talked to her in English, but when she answered it was only in that other tongue. I drove us to a Sonic Drive-In for late night thirst quenching cold drink. The girl who waited on us was a teenager who was usually in our church with her parents, but was allowed to miss that time in order to work. She was very embarrassed because my wife was quite loudly proclaiming the glory of God, not in English, but in an unknown tongue so that all of the employees and customers were witnessing her Holy Ghost filled experience.

I finally took my wife on home and put her to bed where she finally went to sleep without ever speaking English that night. When she woke up in the morning she was finally back to normal... talking to me again in English.
What an experience that was! Last time I heard the teenager was managing a large jewelry store in Florida. I doubt that she ever forgot that night either...

Tongues, Prophecies, Slain In The Spirit, Visions, Anything Cessationists says no longer happens, Prayer Language vs message to the Church and others.

Several years ago, I attended a Charismatic Episcopal Church. They were strictly BY THE BOOK about every message being interpreted, and never was it by the person who spoke it. I usually sat in the front right, but one sunday sat in the rear left.

A message was given in Tongues. We all waited for an Interpretation. And waited. And waited some more. Then a CELL PHONE rang in the front right, a moment later an interpretation was given. It was just the timing, but seemed like the interpretation came in by phone, just a funny coincidence.

So you are quite sure it wasn't a phony.
