Ya, no, sorry Jack, Logabe had it right, it is when you are baptized with fire that you are sanctified, and THAT is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. John's baptism was to proclaim the coming of the savior. After we receive Him, Jesus baptizes us with the fire of the Holy Spirit. Luke 3:16 NIV
Act 26:16 But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you,
Act 26:17 delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles--to whom I am sending you
Act 26:18 to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are
sanctified by faith in me.'
Justification and sanctification are by faith in Christ, and as such, they are simultaneous events. Show me where in Scripture sanctification is linked in any way to the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
There's one other matter to deal with here. To be baptized with fire is not a good thing. It means that you are chaff that is being separated from the wheat with the judgement of unquenchable fire. You need to read your proof text in context.
Mat 3:10 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
Mat 3:11 "I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry.
He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Mat 3:12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire."
