out in the woods
sin unto death ...is that born of flesh.
Obedience unto righteousness...is that born of Spirit.
Obedience unto righteousness overcomes sin unto death bring it into submission to Galatians 6:14-16
[14] But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. [15] For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. [16] And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

Romans 7:22-25
[22] For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: [23] But I see another law (sin unto death)in my members, warring against the law (obedience unto righteousness) of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. [24] O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? [25] I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law (obedience unto righteousness)of God; but with the flesh the law of sin (unto death.)

Sin unto death is being eternally lost. The Bible only gives us two eternal fates; salvation or condemnation. In Romans 6:16 Paul puts forth those two options showing we each are going to either be lost by serving sin unto death or be saved by serving obedience unto righteousness.

unto death = condemnation
unto righteousness = salvation

So it remains that the only way to be righteous (right doing) is by being obedient to the will of God. Continued disobedience to the will of God never made anyone righteous......continuance in wrong doing will never lead one to right doing. It is obedience UNTO righteous, that is, obedience leads one to being righteous. Paul never said obedience because one is righteous, that is one obeys because he already is righteous. Such an idea is impossible, not logical for again, how can one ever get to be right doing (righteous) by continually doing wrong (unrighteous)? It's not possible.

Actually Luther just felt better about not having to seek the Lord for an actual personal encounter in creating a humanized gospel based on beliefs ABOUT Jesus.
No . . . Luther realized that all these ridiculous and unScriptural traditions - works - were never going to do anything towards giving him relationship with God, as that can only be built on faith.

The Just shall Live by Faith.

Of course.

honestly I have struggled with this topic and others like it over the past couple days. Wondering if I’ve been seeing it as clearly as I thought so hesitate to even respond. Obviously (imo)what we consider flesh returns to dust. Christ Jesus though said His body is of His flesh and bone. Thought a lot of that flesh which is His. A verse I’ve been meditating on which has thrown me is: A psalm of David, when he was I the wilderness of Judah. Psalm 63:1
[1] O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

This also: Philippians 3:21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

“the working” where He is able to subdue all things...who shall change our vile body. It is the sin which makes it vile, yeah? ”O, God, Thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsts for thee, my flesh longest (groans) for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;”

and Hebrews 1:11-12 which tells of men waxing old as does a (moth eaten)garment...as a vesture God folds them up, and they are changed...But God is the same and His years fail not...without seam and everlasting(enduring-woven through and through). The reason for bringing this up is .do we fully recognize what “that it (the body)may be fashioned like unto his glorious body”means expecting a beautiful body in outward appearance? is that not the point but the vileness of pride, arrogance, hatred, steal kill and destroy which makes it vile. What is beauty when one can have outward beauty and is empty. Yet Another be considered “stricken of God” in bearing our chastisement and infirmities...and considered undesirable. It is important in what does growing closer to His image mean? What is growing closer toward bearing the heavenly image rather than the earthly image? What is the “righteousness” of growing anywhere closer to “perfection” being fashioned into His glorious body which doesn’t wax old...when we argue our own righteousness over others and focus all day own our own good name and proving ourselves when the Word says charity seeks not her own. To sit here all day defending our right to be holy and righteous ...yet never once putting others above ourself. We all have a good portfolio and high opinion and image of ourselves. We sure can tell others how righteous we are. Do we ever putting the same effort toward proving others instead of ourself? it seems important because in saying any are “righteous” ...the speech and actions say we are self-consumed. What is the be fashioned into the likeness of His glorious body???

1 Corinthians 13:13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Matthew 5:43-48 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; [45] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. [46] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? [47] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others ? do not even the publicans so? [48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Actually Luther just felt better about not having to seek the Lord for an actual personal encounter in creating a humanized gospel based on beliefs ABOUT Jesus. Luther's scheme short-circuits the need for an actual personal encounter and visitation of God. God need not get involved since Luther's philosophy makes that obsolete. It creates a new and muddled religious system based on theoriticals and dogmatic positionings. That's all that a man-made solution can offer away from God getting involved. With this comes the false assurance of "being saved" that so many hold these days. These are based on a few misunderstood verses...and Peter even warned us about the difficult sayings of Paul.

And once a person puts their human beliefs in such a religious form ....it is very difficult to wean them from it since it requires an actual visitation from God to prove that these exist. And even then, this is simply called a holiness move of God....WITHIN the belief system.

So really there is a great difficulty in eliminating this trend towards religiosity.

Through the history of the Protestant church some revivals have sprung up...bringing real encounters with God and as a result holiness. But the very nature of man-made doctrines makes these short-lived. They are incompatible with each other.

A "house divided" cannot stand. Holiness cannot long exist in a culture that resists righteousness....that invents a religious righteousness as if spiritual things were make-believe. Something has to give. Holiness has been repeatedly rejected through adherence to an "alien righteousness" teaching.

Just look for holiness in today's churches.

But God has it this way for a good reason.

In each generation the truth must be re-discovered AWAY FROM the prevailing teachings of the masses. The lies of human theologies are only overcome by a fresh seeking of truth for a new outbreak of the truth. Christianity only works as a counter culture since the world will always opt for what seems right to the carnal mind. It continually resets to the carnal ways. The church follows this pattern throughout history. The kingdom of God works differently...backwards seeming to our own way of thinking. Hence the constant need for the seeking of renewal. Hence also the difficulty in absorbing anything of the kingdom of God since we seem always to be stuck in the starting gate.

But this also makes us one with the believers of every generation who have had the same struggle. Each generation must suffer in the same way for the truth. WHOEVER enters into the truth and lives Godly will suffer persecution...from the religious ones if not from the world at large.

Jesus has said this. One needs to look with honesty to see that this is so today as always.

But fewer and fewer will find the way to actual freedom in Christ.

Heb 13:12, Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
Heb 13:13, Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

I will say that the apostle Paul quotes out of Habakkuk 2:4 in at least three places in the NT.

Heb 13:12, Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.
Heb 13:13, Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

Again not being able to understand the difference between righteousness and holiness. Being sanctified means being in Christ. We partake of HIS holiness when we enter into Christ. Jesus did NOT come to give us HIS righteousness for personal status. By faith we enter into Christ for God's righteousness to be upon us. God's holiness is never ours...neither His righteousness. We act inside of these for service. Raising the dead is an example of God's righteousness on us. Outside miracles. But we will be judged individually APART from what is the gift of God to mankind given to us as individuals. We will be judged AGAINST what we have each been given. It's like a wheel within a wheel. God's righteousness is there to act upon us and in us and on us. But these are NOT ours.

No one is permanently righteous or holy with God's attributes. We come in and out of these...hard as that might be to understand with the carnal mind.

And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption (1Corinthians 1:30)

(this is the verse that confuses people into an "imputed" righteousness stance)

Rom. 3:22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;

When we enter into Christ we have God's righteousness on us the way the OT prophets had on them. But this is for exterior ministry according to authority. This does not justify us as "saved" forever as people so desperately seek after. Being IN Christ with God's authority prepares us for service in His church and in the world as His ambassadors. But always righteousness is about what we are doing with what we have been given. Doing righteousness is what we will be judged by. Belonging to Christ is about holiness....a holiness that we partake of In Christ. THAT is HIS holiness. We can't have our own holiness.

The difference is that Christ is being formed in they who walk in Him. Jesus did not claim equality with God...He acted selflessly. But everyone is looking to raise themselves up selfishly based on their own beliefs. VERY un-Christlike.

So people confuse being in Christ as a process...which it isn't...it is a gift of grace. But the character of Christ is the the process of Christ being FORMED in us...as maturity IN His purity (holiness). No one grows into Christ. But IN Christ one can grow into His likeness.

Sanctification is NOT a process...it is the gift of being pure as God is pure. But maturity IN that purity is a process.

So all things considered we will be judged by how selfless we are. A righteous person is not selfish. A religious person is very selfish.

So what are our doctrines doing to us?

Again not being able to understand the difference between righteousness and holiness.

I actually was not trying to argue with you there but to agree with something you said and to give it scriptural backing.

God's holiness is never ours...neither His righteousness.

But since we're on the subject, God gives His holiness (and righteousness) to us as a free gift...does it not then belong to us?

No one is permanently righteous or holy with God's attributes.

I disagree. See Hebrews 10:14; and also compare 1 John 3:6 w/ 1 John 2:17.

Being IN Christ

Indeed, what does that mean?

1Jo 3:5, And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

1Jo 1:5, This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

1Jo 5:20, And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

Belonging to Christ is about holiness....a holiness that we partake of In Christ. THAT is HIS holiness. We can't have our own holiness.

He gives unto us His holiness. It is still His...but it becomes ours. Not in the sense that it is our own righteousness which is as filthy rags...but in the sense that we own His righteousness that He gives unto us.

Jesus did not claim equality with God...

Yes He did (John 5:18).

No! That's the point. It is borrowed. An ambassador cannot do what he wants...he must obey his government. If he abuses the power he is entrusted with...by lending....then he is rejected. Same goes for us. We can only be judged by our own ways....not God's.

So God is watching us to see what we will do with His grace. Are we claiming this for ourselves? Then we have robbed God of His authority. It is not called the grace of GOD for nothing. We are servants...not masters.

We own nothing. Naked we came into this world...and naked we will leave this world. Then we will be all judged by what we have done with what we have been given. No one owns God or anything from Him. It is never our kingdom...otherwise the devil is involved in a rebellious false claim on such.

God will judge us according to His righteousness...to reveal OUR righteousness or lack thereof.

Being IN Christ"

@justbyfaith
Indeed, what does that mean?

It means that we have been translated (raptured while still in these mortal bodies) into the spiritual realm to walk in the very presence of holy God. Doing eternal works...perfect works that were conceived before creation. There is NO spot or wrinkle of sin in His presence. So we are to walk before Him in the Spirit. We are to BE holy as He is holy. Being in Christ is being before the Father...in His presence in Zion.

If he abuses the power he is entrusted with...by lending....then he is rejected.

However, it is not lent but given to us.

Then we will be all judged by what we have done with what we have been given.

See? Given, not lent; even by your own words.

Not to mention the scriptures teach that it is given in Romans 5:15-19, Ephesians 2:8-9 and perhaps a few other places (but I have not studied it out).

Ephesians 3
4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3
1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

True of all true Christians.

How in the world do you plan to undo your unrighteousness?

Under these terms, no one will be righteous, only Jesus. Only God.

Because in truth you cannot undo your unrighteousness. The idea of our own righteousness is a ship that has already sailed, and you can never catch up to it, unless . . . if . . . you've never ever sinned, and weren't born from Adam's line of dead humanity. But that's a tall order, and I don't imagine any of us can make that claim. Except Jesus, that is.

Much love!

You don't think God already knows?

Grace is the power of God working in us, not like a battery we plug into or not.

Faith is your part, grace is His part.

How's that working out for you?

I can simplify this list if you wish. Love God with all your heart mind soul and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. Perfectly! Always! Since birth.

Good luck, which ever list you want to hold yourself to, the longer or the shorter.

But remember, God doesn't grade on a curve like you do.

Much love!

What a shame to discard all of Jesus' commandments. After Jesus gave these wonderful and rich commandments, he said:

Matthew 7
[21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
[22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
[23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

It's high time to wake up people, and put the false doctrines of men away; you must put self on the shelf and allow Jesus to work his obedience into your innermost being. No righteousness, no Heaven.
