The Problem with 2 Peter 1:1

Marriage is a two part deal. The man is to the woman as Christ is to the church. Eph 5:25, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; The man must deny his own self for the benefit of the woman. Like Christ died for the church, the husband must...

The Problem with 2 Peter 1:1

The Athenasius Creed uses several word that are not in the scriptures. Much of the Creed is based on the word "essence" which word, though found in Pagan literature, is not found in the scriptures themselves. So I stand by my statement that, "...all explanations of necessity go to sources...

Paul or Athenasius - Who Speaks the Truth?

I don't see how they were both right. If Paul said that we need to confess Jesus as Lord and believe that God raised him from the dead, then it would not be necessary to believe the trinity as Athenasius said. I'm sorry, but I see Athenasius adding to the scripture.

Paul or Athenasius - Who Speaks the Truth?

Well I do see three spirits there. What I don't see is that they are actually one spirit. Virtually all scholars say Matthew 28:19 was added to the original text. That makes sense since there is not one single record that shows the Apostles followed that formula. If you read Acts you will see...

    One and Triune God.

You are quite correct on that point. We should call them "scriptures" which word is used many times. So we can get doctrine from Harry Potter? Where does it explicitly say we can't? Your intimation here is further proof that we can include Harry Potter to formulate our rule of faith and...

Paul or Athenasius - Who Speaks the Truth?

I think so. I mean it all comes down to going with something God said or something Athenasius said. It shouldn't be too hard of a decision.

The Problem with 2 Peter 1:1

Well, wouldn't two persons be two gods? "...For there is one Person of the Father; another of the Son; and another of the Holy Ghost..." This is from the Athenasian Creed. It says there are three persons. It goes on to say there are not three persons but one person. Very confusing to say the...

Paul or Athenasius - Who Speaks the Truth?

Very good verse. I did read it carefully, but I don't see a trinity there, let alone the requirement that one believe in the trinity to be saved. I think I read it as written. You seem to be inserting something that just isn't there. But maybe I'm missing something. Where do you see the trinity...

Paul or Athenasius - Who Speaks the Truth?

I see what you are saying, but if that were it, wouldn't it amount to adding something more than, "confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead," which is what the scriptures themselves say? What about the people that lived before...

Paul or Athenasius - Who Speaks the Truth?

What happened to all the people who lived during Paul's time? Not having lived long enough to hear Athenasius, are they not saved? Rom 8:9, You, however, are - controlled not by the flesh, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ...

    Was Jesus a mere man?

Those who don't believe Jesus is God usually hear something like, "Are you saying Jesus was a mere man?" First of all, there really is no such thing as a "mere" man. Ps 8:4-5, 4 what is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You care for him? 5 You made him a little lower...

Paul or Athenasius - Who Speaks the Truth?

Here is what Paul said about getting born again: Rom 10:9, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Here is what the Athanasian Creed says about getting born again (I only quoted...

    One and Triune God.

The renowned Greek scholar and Trinitarian, A. T. Robertson noted that the Greek word theos (God) could be understood as a vocative, “O God,” or as a nominative, as in the phrase, “God is thy throne” or “Thy throne is God.” The former contradicts many clear verses whereas the latter fits like a...

    One and Triune God.

Doesn't the fact that John 1:14 says the logos "became" flesh mean anything? The Word "became" flesh when? When Jesus was born. Before that the logos was not flesh. While the logos was with God in the beginning, Jesus was not. Jesus was key to the plan, but until the house is actually built, it...

    One and Triune God.

Where does it say that? Specifically, where does it say that in the scriptures? I know it says that in the creeds and catechisms, but I don't see it in the scriptures themselves. So do we. 2Pet 1:4, Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be...

    One and Triune God.

Where does it say that? Not saying it doesn't, but I don't know where. That is indeed a verse that is hard to understand. But if we take to to say Jesus is God, we open up a huge can of worms, given the huge number of verses that would make it impossible for Jesus to be God. Start with him...

    One and Triune God.

Check out some of my older posts. You should be able to find many verses I used to support the nature of Jesus and God. I showed that: God knew things Jesus didn't know Jesus said God was greater than he was Jesus had a God Jesus has a Father, the same Father as us. His name forever is YHWH...

    One and Triune God.

I scanned the article and it looks good. I'll study it more later on. It is also grammatically possible the the words, "the word (Greek logos) was God" is describing the quality of the word, i.e. "the word was Godly" or "the word was divine." There are several translations that say it that way...

    One and Triune God.

U Instead of substituting "Jesus" for "Word" in John 1:1, might it not be better to find out exactly what the word "Word" really means? It is the Greek word "logos" and it doesn't mean Jesus. I think you'll find it means what is in someone's mind, like a plan. That's what God had in the...

    One and Triune God.

Yes, there is that. I think that not calling God by His name, YHWH, has caused much of the confusion as to who God and Jesus are. It's too often thought there is only one god, but that's not true. The Bible talks about many gods, including people. To the Ancient Near Easterner a god was someone...
