I was thinking about ageing last night, how the ageing process affects every one of us. How it slows us down, how it weakens us and changes our physical bodies as we get older.

But in comparison as we age spiritually we should become quicker to trust, stronger in our faith, growing in wisdom and renewed daily by the transforming of our minds and as we approach the end of our earthly lives we have a new adventure to look forward to in eternity.

God is great! By slowing the process of physical death, He has given us a second chance for spiritual life with Him. Just incredible.

Ageing is a mystery to me. In some ways I'm more fit than I was at 20. And in other ways no matter how I try to compensate there's not much I can do. Aaron and Moses walked a lot and they were both around 120 when they died. And Moses had great eyesight. I walk a mile or so 6 days a week and it seems to help and my eyes improved with age. I don't need glasses now.

Aging keeps our egos in check. Only a fool is not recognizing the limits it puts on our lives.

When I was young my nickname was Hulk due to my strength and body build.

    Now just call me limpy.

My 68 years have not been kind to my body.

In one way I look at it as a burden. In another that I am getting closer to going home.

I don't believe I will die, but that I will go in the rapture. That is how close I believe it is.

I have seen and done a lot. What I see around me today is not pretty.

I think there was another thread where the comparison between the outward body, and the inward person is different. What I find sad, obviously because I work on a demencia floor, is how the physical and mental deteriation almost irradiates the spiritual expression and understanding of a person.
The only connection comes when old hymns are played.
So, the fact that many of us are not getting any younger, thank God that we can still renew our minds - it is a blessing xx
The only thing I would say is that even though we grow and mature as we get older our ' inner filter ' does go, so perhaps we say things that the younger Christian would not dream of saying !!
    - I am not quite there with that one yet......... Lol

@Pearl It's all part of the greater consideration for the believer to keep looking up (Hebrews 12.2), right? :)

I'm sure you must think about this a lot, given your line of work...

As we age our spiritual health and strength should increase as our physical health and strength fades.

Indeed; our dependence on God's wondrous grace should increase as the days go by, until the day break and the shadows flee away (Song of Solomon 2.17). :)

I am very glad for a computer and iPad as I age. It gives me contact with you guys on here :)
Living in the north as we do, we have winter as another strike against us, as well as aging. Winter too limits us.

I don't enjoy the new 'hobby' age brings with regular doctor and lab tests
And aging has messed me up somewhat with 'the healing thing'.

In my twenties I learned about healing through Jesus Christ as our portion.
And I had many wonderful Miraculous answers to prayer. I had faith that Gid would always answer even if not instantly every time. But in my 60's and more so when I turned 70, my faith wavered..I'd hit my "three score years and ten"
..so - how could I expect healing on the same level. It got me! :(
I find pressing through to a healing very hard now. I have to pray every time and ask God if I should go to the doctor or stand, for this, that or the other...
I'm a bit on shaky ground there..no solid conviction.

But as a whole..I quite enjoy "the mature years" :)

    Thank you @Pearl

There's an old proverb that says that an old man sees further when seated than a younger man standing up.

Well there is an emotional connection to things that are retained in the memory from the past, but sometimes it is hard to reach as the illness progresses.
I wish I could find a video of an very elderly women who was advanced with demencia and showed no sign of awareness or presence - a lady held her hand, and started to sing ' yes, Jesus loves me ' at first the elderly lady doesn't connect, then the lady with her started to strum the cords of the song with her hands. First a tear appear on the elderly lady's face , then gradually the lady's hands start hitting the chair with the same beat of the song, then out of the blue she starts to sing the words. The video is used in our training - it's very emotional to watch x

The Holy Spirit can still work on Scriptural sentiment in those whose memories may be far gone already... :)

Now that's an interesting thought, was it just emotional connection or the Holy Spirit - this elderly lady was definately a Christian.
