Referencing my views on the church ages... http://www.christianityboard.com/topic/13598-the-seven-church-ages-per-gods-word/... I think Don McLeans 'American Pie' refers to the end of the Philadelphian Church Age ten years into the Laodicean....

See if you can see it...

I have linked a photo of my Virginian family below. The Pugh's were a Welch family that moved to Floyd County VA. Here is the Google Map location....

These people were the epitome of the Philadelphian Church Age and my family hammered these values into me from childhood. And those values were to work hard Mo-Fr, Town on Sa morning (all dressed up and call the men 'Mr.' and the ladies 'Mame' thank you), chores on Saturday afternoon, family and fellowship on Saturday night, and church on Sunday morning. My Granny would wash my dress shirts for me, dry them out in the mountain air, and then iron the dress shirts and put a military crease in them for me. Church services were very lively on Sunday mornings, we would have a big family meal on Sunday afternoon, and then back at church for Sunday night. There were blue laws in Va preventing stores to open on Sundays making the area look like a ghost town on Su afternoons. And my people would not allow any kind of work to be done on Sundays.

With the changes in time came a changes in people. My generation simply did not walk in the paths of generations past. There next to the old family Pugh home is a place called Little River. The guys use to get drunk there on the weekends and one backslidden son of a minister use to mock services and have 'baptisms' there on the river. There was one instance where he was out on the river and a rush of water pushed him downstream, they were three days finding his dead body. This is one of many stories of foolish people of my generation.

But here is an old picture of the Pugh clan. A good and a righteous people of the Philadelphian church age... I rode my motorcycle down the Alum ridge road the other day... Beautiful country! Beautiful people!
