Chapter 3

1
For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

2
If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

3
How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

4
Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

5
Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

6
That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

Eph.4:
3
Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

This we have all up on belief............!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mat. 3:

11
I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire

The Pastor, posed that he would baptized us....
I just seen your post. thanks for the response. maybe I'm not understanding fully what going on here. you said, "the new pastor, He claimed, he would baptize us 3, 4, or 5 times...as many times as it took to get it right".

I have a few question to ask.
1. is the "US" here, just you, and or your family, or the whole church congregation?
2. what is the "it" he wants to get right, be specific if you can.

when one is able to read spiritually, and see, certainly; it ceases to be about the ritual at that point, and is spiritually translated into IRL. As soon as we realize that a soul might certainly be accepted without ever going through the ritual, right? Doesn't negate the meaning of the ritual, but supersedes it, puts the ritual where it belongs iow
certainly, bc it is not something meant to be done 3 times a year or once a week or whatever, or even made profane by doing it every day; it is meant to be lived. The ritual is supposed to be strictly a reminder, or acknowledgement of the true Communion, which is IRL, can only be IRL.

I came that you might have communion, more abundantly

lol, right, when the ritual is in view; but a perfect rephrase, when life is meant
I agree.
I think...
Jesus said to do this, so we should.
That's the bottom line.
And, yes, it shouldn't be done on a routine basis.

And he is right, there is nothing magical or spiritual about the water used in baptism. Once the service is over the plug is pulled and it drains away.

Did you ask your pastor what he meant by saying he'd baptise people multiply times to get it right?
Hi,

I thought baptism saved us and washed away our sins? 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 22:16, Acts 2:38-39

Sounds magical to me. ;)

Baptism is symbolic only. I was a Christian before I went for baptismn.
My going down into the water and coming up out of the water were symbolic of my going down and up out of the grave.

If there was something in the water of baptism our congragation would be leaving soaking wet.
The unbelieving family and friends of those being batised would be hosed down.
He who believes AND is baptized will be saved" (Mark 16:16). Can a symbol save you?

The first century Christians practiced that before baptism the one baptizing and the one being baptized are to fast beforehand a day or two, and any others who are able.

Why did the Christians who walked and talked with the Apostles and Apostolic Fathers (students of the Apostles) feel the need to "fast" before they engaged in a "symbol"? That doesn't make sense. o_O

Dear friend,

I believe scripture. Scripture says baptism saves us.

It also says to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

It also says
a person is justified by works and not by faith alone further saying Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that does the will of my Father. What do you think we have to DO to be saved?

To pretend that scripture says only one thing, faith and trust saves us, is to delete the portions of scripture that we don't agree with....or understand.

YOU can hit the delete button on the parts of scripture you don't agree with. I agree with all of scripture.

Love, Mary

I guess I should have said if you read the bible correctly, you will see we no longer need to do works !
Eph.2;
8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9
Not of works, lest any man should boast
Eph.2;
8

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9
Not of works, lest any man should boast

The text doesn’t stop there. It goes on:

"10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Good works won’t bring us salvation. But if we are saved through faith, Christ working in us will make us do good works. If we don’t do good works, it’s a sure sign that our faith is dead.

TRUE faith requires obedience.

Jesus said:
Mark 16:16
Whoever believes and is BAPTIZED will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

He ALSO said of Baptism:
John 3:5
“Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of WATER and Spirit.

2 chapters earlier, when Jesus was baptized - what did we see? WATER and the Holy Spirit.
Right after He tells Nicodemus that we must be baptized to be saved - what do Jesus and the Apostles do?? They spend time BAPTIZING people.

The first 3 chapters of the Gospel of John are drenched with the teaching of Baptismal Regeneration.

Ummm, that's NOT what the Bible says - in context.
The idea of Sola Fide is a man made doctrine that was invented by Martin Luther in the 16th century.

The Bible, however shows us that the ONLY place we see the phrase "faith alone" is preceded by the words "NOT BY":
James 2:24

You see that a person is justified by works and NOT BY faith alone.

Actually the Catholic Church pretty much agreed with Luther on this doctrine by now. Here's a link to the "Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification by the Lutheran World Federation and the Catholic Church.":
