Was there not a time when you were unwilling to come to Christ?

A deceived Hyper Calvinist would teach that you are born again so that you can then give God your Faith in Christ, and at no point did you initially choose it.
So, we see that this is teaching "born again in sin".... or that God has joined Himself to the Believer, BEFORE the believer had faith in Christ to initially be forgiven all sin.
Therefore this Hyper-Calvinism teaching is a "doctrine of devils" (Heb 13:9 KJV) that is denying that you must give God your faith in Christ to THEN be forgiven so that THEN God can join Himself to you,= spiritually as born again.

The Real Christian would understand and teach that first must come Real Faith in Christ.. and then comes Salvation as "God's Gift".
First comes the Faith in Christ, that causes God to forgive all your sin, and now being forgiven, Holy God will join Himself spiritually to the BELIEVER = and they become "IN Christ"......as a "new Creation". "Born....again".

This world is full of deceptions and delusions tho, that is what makes such a hard slog.
I had great faith but was not prepared for the day that Jesus came to me ! form that point on one is Solid and Sealed one can not go back to the Vomit of this world, for one understands what such truly is !

Beforehand one may know something of the Holy Spirit that is faith based, but being Saved is more that that ! Enlightened !

Born again is Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Becoming knowledgeable of God and His Glorious Spirit. And desiring to be immersed in the Holy Spirit.

In evangelical terms, baptism of the Holy Spirit is available to the already believer. They liken it to the experiences in Acts when the Holy Spirit was received, the evidence of which was often tongues.
But no one can be in a saved state unless the Holy Spirit dwells in them(Rom8:9) So the evangelicals I know would differentiate between getting saved, having the Holy Spirit within you and baptism of the Holy Spirit. But maybe that is not what you were thinking of
