How much weight do you place in a person’s character when voting for our leaders?
If you do value good character in your choice of leader, how do you respond to their bad behavior?

If you ignore bad behavior in the person you elected to office, do you make an issue of bad character traits in leaders you do not agree with?

I am guessing that a popular strategy is to ignore bad character in leaders we vote for - because members of our tribe cannot have bad character because they are members of our tribe! And the opposite happens when it is a leader from another tribe in power.

For those who are honest and have this insight into themselves, why do you do it? How do you avoid feeling like a hypocrite? Is it a fear thing - you have a hard time admitting that the short term benefits out weight the long term results? Is it that bad character is worth the long term benefits - the right judges will be put in place, the right regulations will be abolished? Do you just want to ‘stick it’ to government?

    I really want to know.

Character is also important in church leadership. Many are getting advanced degrees in theology these days... But their religion seems to only exist from their neck up. Very little compassion, warmth, and love for people neck down.

Arrogance in the pulpit is coveted by lots of congregations, mistaking it for confidence and ‘right thinking’.

    How about political leaders, rocky?

I worry more about the public than I do the leadership. I see a generation arising with no desire for things of good character. We need a revival for the people, who then will vote it into the leadership.

Well if all you go on is what you hear, and what a person's enemies say...how can you even purpose to judge a person's character? Such a way of placing judgement is not a good sign of character itself.

And if a person won an election based on their ability to be a hard nosed fighter to do a tough job, who other than an opponent would criticize that official for doing that tough job in tough character?

    As for hypocrites...

True. However; if a person makes enemies of anyone who critiques his job performance or lack of character, who is left?

And if a person won an election based on their ability to be a hard nosed fighter to do a tough job, who other than an opponent would criticize that official for doing that tough job in tough character?

Anyone who sees abhorrent behavior, self-serving decision making and incompetence on the job, perhaps? And once again, when you decide that all feedback you get that you do not like must be provided by an enemy - you fire or attack them and surround yourself with yes-men.

    As for hypocrites...

He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.

Are you applying that to yourself?

It's one of the biggest factors for me. If my choices are:
    A) a good man/woman with strong principles, integrity, but holds different stances on issues than I do.
    B) a good man/woman who holds the same stances on issues than I do, but has a downright scum bag character
    I'll vote for A.

Your emotions and politics have blinded you. He may just be the most un-"self-serving" billionaire in US history. He didn't need anything, but what he wanted was to "Make America Great Again."

But that's funny--you critiquing him. Very funny!

Are you aware that prophetic speakers spoke of Trump becoming president in 2007?

Since you are obviously Left-Liberal, why don't you tell us a little about the outstanding character of the Leftists running for office right now? Their fundamental trait is to tell lies at every opportunity, and then tell more lies to cover up the previous lies.

And Trump will be reelected in 2020.....then after that whoever is elected is put there by God and I will pray for them like I do all our leaders.

Character is important but not perhaps as important as their social awareness and social conscience. Are they self serving or do they have a desire to serve the people that elect them.

In the UK just now many of our politicians seem to be bending over backwards and tying themselves in knots to avoid carrying out the decision of the majority of the electorate to get us out of Europe.

I have mainly been a Labour voter but would not vote Labour if there was an election as long as Jeremy Corben remains their leader.

If Boris Johnson had been PM all this time instead of Mrs May perhaps we would be out by now.

The way that character in leadership works with God (since it is He who raises up leaders), is if the people repent and cry out, He hears them and answers them. Likewise, if the people demand folly, He gives it to them.

In the case of Trump, God has heard the cry of the people and raised up a warrior.

I don't believe that for one minute. I think the people have got what they deserve. But that's just my opinion and I am as entitled to it as you are to yours.

Well, let's say this regarding the topic. All the Democrats are unworthy to be elected to office by any measure of character. And ALMOST all the Republicans (the RINOs) are in the same boat. End of story.

The same applies to almost all Canadian and Western European politicians. They all have just ONE GUIDING PRINCIPLE -- self interest and the citizens and the country be d*****d.
