Interpreting Parables 101. Who's who in the parable? What do the things in the parable represent? What are the unexpected plot twists? What lesson is being taught?

This is where your paradigm of trying to fit together pieces that weren't meant to fit together gives me more cognitive dissonance.
What is the story line, and what does that story line show? I don't believe in trying to fit all the details into a doctrinal tapestry. I understand parables to be familiar storys that show a truth.

Or…no, when Jesus says you won’t be forgiven if you don’t forgive doesn’t mean you won’t be forgiven it
The thing is, this parable teaching is a perfect fit for the people and the time, but does not emphatically does not fit the Biblical doctrines regarding the body of Christ.

As MarkS said many times, our debt is not repayable. When the Unforgiving Servant went to prison, he was going to stay there until he died or until the King decided to have mercy on him again. The prison?
Exactly!

This should make every Protestant uneasy - it shows a believer losing his forgiven status. Is this something that actually happens, or does Jesus just want His followers contemplating what could happen if God decided to treat us the way we treat each other?
No, it shows a servant having his debt reinstated. It does not show a child of God being returned to unreconciled. If anything, this is "suspended reconciliation", that is, the servant will be released once the dept is paid. It does not fit the doctrines of the body of Christ.

The wages of sin, ultimately, after an appropriate period of punishment, is death.
Let's keep to the text shall we? The wages of sin are not pain, they are death. The consequences of sin may be suffering, but what it earns us is not pain, it's death.

But death, well, we have different ideas there.

Our discussion really hinges on our definition of death.
I agree.

So what is a valid definition of death that holds true in every place the term is used?

"And you were dead in trespasses . . ."

I disagree, obviously.

This has also occurred to me.

Much love!

This has been a biblical issue with me for years! So vague. I know some who think it is a "third" destination, can't buy that, not a thing to back that up. Lot's of opinions out there...pick one! lol. This one's on the shelf with the elf.
God Bless bro

That is the sin of unbelief that rejects the forgiveness already offered.
Not according Scripture. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is when they were ascribing the works performed by the Holy Spirit through Jesus, they were saying it was an "unclean spirit". They were denying the demonstrations of the power of God given to authenticate Jesus' ministry, claiming it was from the devil.

That is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, "because they said he had an unclean spirit".

The sons of the kingdom, or the sons of God? Is there a difference?

Much love!
Gosh, they could be angels, non believing Jews, any Christian...? Possibly they are interchangeable terms? "Sons of God/Son's of the Kingdom"...some translations say "children of the Kingdom". Very confusing and leaves too much room for error IMHO. So yeah, on the shelf :D

Matthew 8:10-13 KJV
10) When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11) And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.
12) But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13) And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

I find "east and west" were used when the location is the earth.

Luke 13:23-30 KJV
23) Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
24) Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
25) When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
26) Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27) But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
28) There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
29) And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
30) And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

Jesus actually said all sins shall be forgiven save this one. Not "can be", but "shall be". Behold the Lamb of God Who carries away the sin of the world.

Much love!

Okay. Many do believe in universalism.

I would've chosen the second option: Jesus wants us to contemplate what could happen if God treated us the way we treat each other. Remember, Jesus is teaching the Children of God what behavior is expected of Children of God.
