Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our Faith. He is not the author of sin. Read below,
What do you consider a "serious" sin?
@Johann and
@Robert Gwin
Look at Romans 1:16-17 and 1 John 5:16-17
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from
faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
16 If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin
which does not
lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit
sin not leading to death. There is
sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not
leading to death.
In 1 John 3:4-5 is shows the type of sin that Jesus first takes away in the first level of faith as the Author of our Faith.
4 Whoever commits sin also commits
lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin.
Lawlessness are sins unto death.
This first level of Faith that Jesus takes out of our nature to never commit or even think to do are sins unto death, taking us from death to LIFE. We are saved, but like Paul not PERFECT (to Johann). So what takes us to perfection?
The next levels of our Faith to perfection. The maturing of each fruit of the Spirit. We find that progression of faiths in 2 Peter 1:5-7
2 Peter 1:5-7
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control [
a]perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
Peter also tells us if we mature all those fruit of the Spirit we will never stumble. Meaning we are perfect which Paul did achieve.
2 Peter 1:10-11 and 2 Timothy 4:6-8
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things (maturing the fruit of the Spirit in 5-7) you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus is the pruner in John 15.
7 I have fought the good fight, I have
finished the race (matured in all fruit of the Spirit), Jesus is also the FINISHER OF OUR FAITH I have
kept the faith (all the levels of Faith) 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
