He lies constantly. He panders to bigots. He spends our money, and money he hasn't yet gotten from us. He reflexively tries to hide the spread of the virus in the United States by appointing a political hack to muzzle any information he doesn't want us to know. Maybe you don't know what "political' means?

Yes, he intended to look like a moron when he lied about the virus in the U.S., just before one of his epidemiology people corrected him publicly. Brilliant move.
Your emotions are showing. Your accusations are laughable, the kind of sneers that every winner gets for those who voted for the loser. Typical.

Yeah, he's a real Columbo!

Hahaha!

And now Republicans are holding up coronavirus funding (diagnostics, treatments, and a vaccine [when available]) to make sure drug companies can price gouge. Democrats want to approach this the same way as the swine flu outbreak in 2009, where the gov't bought large amounts of the vaccine and then provided it to the public for free.

Just like the GOP's overall approach to health care, it's profits over public health.

We vote, but God decides.

Pray it is what we need rather than what we deserve.
God isn't going to vote. God gave dominion over the earth to man. If a nation wants a king, God says okay have a king. If a nation wants a democracy, God says okay again. I wouldn't say every ruler is hand picked by God.

Hosea 8:4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

That is absolutely not correct. You shouldn't be spreading false information like that.
"More than 83,000 people in at least 53 countries have been infected, and more than 2,800 have died. However, there are only sixty confirmed cases nationwide as of February 28, and no U.S. deaths. In fact, only two deaths have been outside of China. In Michigan, none of the five cases that met the criteria for actual testing came back positive for the coronavirus.

That's an incredibly low number compared to the spread of influenza. 105 children in the U.S. have died from influenza this flu season, two of those in Michigan."

The situation is changing daily. We now have 9 coronavirus deaths in the US. So in less than a week we've gone from none to nine.

And the part about "only two deaths have been outside of China" is completely wrong. For example, one day ago there were 52 coronavirus deaths in Italy, today it's up to 79.

That's an incredibly low number compared to the spread of influenza. 105 children in the U.S. have died from influenza this flu season, two of those in Michigan."
For sure there are more cases of influenza, but the coronavirus is as much as 30x more deadly. Plus, it's just now starting to spread in the US, and unlike with influenza, there are no vaccines at all for coronavirus. The State of Washington has declared a state of emergency due to the outbreak.

What I can't figure out is why it seems to be important for Christians to downplay the situation. Is it merely a Trump thing, or is there something else going on?

Your emotions are showing.

Someone's are. There's no reason to get upset about it. Trump lies. We all know it. He's incurred huge deficits. That's not debatable. He panders to bigots. Even some of his staunchest defenders have admitted it:

“I want to talk to the Trump supporters for a moment. I don’t know who you are, and I don’t know why you like this guy,"
..."He's a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot," Graham continued. "He doesn't represent my party. He doesn't represents the values that the men and women who wear the uniform are fighting for. ... He's the ISIL man of the year."
Lindsey Graham, speaking of Donald Trump

Your accusations are laughable,

See above; even his defenders know better. Lindsey has recently submitted and kissed Trump's ring, but the above is what he thought before Trump took over the party. He sneered at Trump until he realized his job depended on being Trump's lap dog.

Let's see how long he can survive on the game board. Obama got re-elected. Trump?

Obama also got his primary objective accomplished. Trump doesn't even want to talk about his wall any more. For the obvious reasons. He's finally realized that it won't happen.

What a laugh. You are accusing more than half the US population of bigotry,

Nope. For one thing less than half of the American people even respect Trump. For another thing, you're assuming that everyone who supports Trump is a bigot. That's just not true. There's some relevant data on that, and only a minority of his followers are classic bigots, which means you have no credibility.

("Yabut what about those other...")

Sorry, no bunny trails for you, today.

Speaking of lies, each and every Democratic presidential candidate has been lying through his or her teeth.

Very few people never lie. And even fewer politicians. Trump is just off the chart on the number and scope of his lies. That's all. You know it as much as the rest of us know it. C'mon.

But you have no problem with Leftist lies.

You have no idea. This may be a little hard for you to understand, but I deplore anyone lying, regardless of their political philosophy. You're excusing Trump's compulsive lying while assailing lies by people you don't like. That's called MAJOR HYPOCRISY my friend.

I get why they're doing it. If someone comes up with a good vaccine, and this virus becomes a pandemic, they could charge pretty much anything they wanted for the vaccine. Too tempting to resist.

Why, that sounds like socialized medicine! Shouldn't we let the free market determine the proper price for the vaccine? ;)

Healthcare government funding is not as bad as you think, in Australia we get into the doctor for just about free in the time of need, sometimes there may be a 10 dollar fee, but think I have only had to pay that once, but it's affordable, and flu shots are anything from free to under 20 bucks, depending on age I think.

You might argue taxes pay for it, but you don't get ripped out of your pocket when you need it. And if you are low income the first $18,200 of income is not taxable anyway.

The way I see it, it's better than a lot of people dropping dead

Maybe it's a reaction against all the media hype.

Sorry, I didn't appreciate you being in Aussie Land. :) Here in the US we're in the midst of a public debate about "socialized medicine", where one side (Republicans) want to keep health care a corporate enterprise run primarily for profit, and the other side (Democrats) want health care to be for the public good.

Right now the Republicans label just about anything funded by tax dollars as "socialism" (except the programs they like), thus my snide remark.
