Two people that I arrested have been executed. One of them was borderline retarded.
It took over 20 years. By that time nobody but the family members of the victims noticed. I don't think it did anything to deter crime
You don't think?
By executing both those people they were prevented from offending repeatedly. THAT'S a deterent.
You mention it took 20 years. That is not an argument against deterent; it is an illustrative argument AGAINST indefinite appeals.
Plain as day:
Ecclesiastes 8:11 says ," Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

Life in prison would prevent them from reoffending as well.
I agree it would be more of a deterrent if it was carried out sooner but then you risk executing an innocent person

The common objection "you risk executing an innocent person" excuse has created 2 things:
It elevates man's sense of fairness above God's clear commandments.
The result is that thousands of the guilty manipulate the 'system' and go free to kill again.
By refusing to execute ANY for fear of MAYBE executing an innocent, there have been THOUSANDS of needless victims suffering by the actions of repeat offenders.
Therefore, we err on the side of extreme caution and sacrifice thousands to save one?

I used to feel like you do, now it’s just not something that I give a lot of thought to.

Pretty sure I said God.
Did you see something different?
That which is attributed to God saying or doing is not necessarily God. How can it be determined?.....by seeing Jesus. Jesus is the very definition of God. John tells definitely that Jesus is the only one who reveals God as he actually is.

John 1:17-18
For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

That there is the difference between myself and liberals.
I believe every word of God in Scripture is God breathed by the Holy Spirit of God.
Liberals commit fallacy after fallacy and redefine and twist and turn so they can hopefully escape the full implications of the Bible by claiming some portion is NOT of God.

This is my issue with the death penalty.

The justice system is prone to error, corruption, discrimination and favouratism.

Every year prisoners get exonerated (released after being wrongfully put in prison) because the justice system was wrong.

Just look at Jesus.
Wrongly convicted and put to death.

The justice system cannot be trusted to kill people

That's why everyone needs to accept Christ B4 they die because you never know when you will die

Jesus allows the death penalty
Rom 13
1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

Rom 13:1-4 Scripture teaches the death penalty as allowable for today
Acts 25:11 Paul accepted it
If you don't want to receive the death penalty for murdering someone then don't do it
.
Acts 25:11
11For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die:
Rom 13:1-4
1Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

That's actually Paul speaking not Jesus.

Jesus actually showed mercy on the woman who committed adultery and said whoever has never sinned can cast the first stone.

So you think it's fine if the justice system kills innocent people as they killed Jesus?

I don't.

I bet if it were you or a loved one being wrongly sent to death you would change your mind quick smart

Who taught Paul ?

++++Jesus actually showed mercy on the woman who committed adultery and said whoever has never sinned can cast the first stone.
And then VIA Paul in Rom 13:1-4 allows the death penalty

++++So you think it's fine if the justice system kills some innocent people as they killed Jesus?
So you think its fine for the gunmen of the recent Bondi massacre to avoid the punishment that Jesus allows in Rom 13:1-4 ?

Prison is a sufficient penalty.

Seeing you didn't answer my question I can only assume that you just don't care if innocent peope are killed by the justice system as Jesus was.

Your thirst for blood lust is stronger than your empathy, my friend

I bet you would change your mind in an instant if it were you or a loved one being wrongfully executed.

John 8:7
“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”
