All I can say to the above is Divine Foreknowledge comes before Divine Predetermination and Human Volition and Divine Intervention, and none of these excludes the other, like the 3 dimensions of space in the dimension of time. Because a plank has length that doesn't cancel out its width or depth. All these exist simultaneously, but they are not the same as each other. Likewise with the aforementioned factors of Foreknowledge, Predetermination, Volition, and Intervention.

The argument that God foreknows something because He has predetermined it is a fallacy of composition.
It's a good argument.

But it's only valid if we say that God's foreknowledge is ALWAYS a function of his agency. The Bible certainly indicates that God foretells us, at least SOMETIMES, in terms of THIS-IS-WHAT-I'M-GOING-TO-DO.

I am not Calvinist, but predestination is a fact. You can misinterpret it to serve your hatred and contenpt - but it's there:
Rom. 8:29 -30
"For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified."
Eph. 1:5 & 11 "having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
... In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will"
Amen!!!...those He predestined “ WILL” be conformed to the image of His Son, there can be “ NO”stopping Gods will!!.....it “ WILL “ be done....give Him all the Honour and Praise!!

it’s understood in the heart/ spirit first by the Living Holy Spirit, when he makes our spirit “ Born Of The Spirit” then what we received into our hearts, is backed up by Gods written word! Chosen and Predestined....Amen!!!
The Living witness ,Gods Holy Spirit, NEVER Lies....He testifies with our spirit that we are His Children, His Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit and brought it Alive in Christ, the night he made me Born Again.

What did we do to receive His Living Holy Spirit into our hearts....” NOTHING “.....we deserve “ HELL” yet by His Mercy and Grace he made us Born Again, by the power of His Living Holy Spirit!!!

That is/ was a mind blowing act of supernatural power via His Living Holy Spirit!!!.

He also knows that when he revealed His Heart to me in an certain area of my life, ..I said NO out of ignorance...he knew that, yet, because of His patience and long suffering, he brought that heart revelation that I first received .......to my understanding..I now understand His heart revelation that he revealed to my heart, there is another person involved, ...32 years it’s taken for the two of us to be in harmony with God will....are man that silly to actually believe that they can actually say no to God.....not in a million years, my opinion/ testimony/belief...

He knows I speak His truth that I had NO say in becoming Born Again, it was like a jigsaw puzzle, everything that God predestined happens exactly as His written word says it will happen.

He placed my eldest Son on my heart yesterday, ..I messaged him, we had a lovely text conversation, we have been estranged for 20 odd years, he got in touch with me last year...God has shown me not to rush it, wait on Him to place my Son on my heart, which I do...I can’t contact my Son in my will....it must be the will of the Father, therefore I wait on Him....God is in control of my life, His Living Spirit possesses my heart/spirit...I am His to use as however is pleasing to Him......my opinion/ testimony and belief.

He watches me sleep and knows that I grind my teeth as well, hehehe, xxx

It's a good argument.

But it's only valid if we say that God's foreknowledge is ALWAYS a function of his agency. The Bible certainly indicates that God foretells us, at least SOMETIMES, in terms of THIS-IS-WHAT-I'M-GOING-TO-DO.
Believing that God knows all about me... and not in a predetermined way.... has kept me on the straight and narrow pebbly path.... almost.

My bull headed ways permitted myself to get in all sorts of mischief and even troubles growing up .... and now that I believe I have grown up... after 7 decades of life... I know, that God knows, and is aware of every thought, deed and action I ever did im my life.

Cannot tell you how many times I just wanted to be able to take a week or two off from this and do what I wanted to do without worrying about my eternity.

I shall stop before I say more about my life and say... I have zero doubt God knows. But I also have zero doubt that I was predestined to either heaven or hell...

I have utilized my free will... yes. I also have had the heavenly Father have my back 3 times I am certain of in my life.....

THIS " But it's only valid if we say that God's foreknowledge is ALWAYS a function of his agency. The Bible certainly indicates that God foretells us, at least SOMETIMES, in terms of THIS-IS-WHAT-I'M-GOING-TO-DO."
is a solidly accurate statement.

lol

In your rebuttle. You removed free will from the equation.

Maybe you do not think thats what your doing, but you were.

If God is not outside of time, if he makes sure things happen as you say, we have no free will
What if all three are true?

  • God outside of time
  • God causes everything to happen
  • Man has free will

Does everyone know that Gods witness The Holy Spirit is a Living Spirit?

He is the Living Spirit who makes our spirit Born Again?

He brings our spirit Alive in Christ?

this is human thinking
If by "human" you mean "rational" I agree.
God knows what will happen, because God knows what free will choices we will make.. and the end result of those free will choices..
If God's knowledge of future choices are empirical, then our free will choices have already been made. He can't "see" what doesn't exist.

Think about it.

So God caused women to be raped on Oct 7th? Babies to be burned alive and babies to be cut out of their mothers stomachs?

Sorry, But that makes me sick to my stomach to even imagine anything of the sort

I understand, but let's be clear. Most people will have a visceral reaction to such events, no matter who causes them. But this doesn't answer my original question.

Let's take the question to the positive to avoid emotional arguments.

Romans 8:28-29
And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Can you imagine how it is possible for God to cause all things to work together for good if God lacks the ability to cause all things?

What assumption do we make that doesn't allow us to believe that, while we make a free will choice, God is ultimately responsible for the choice we make? Isn't that an assumption we bring to the Bible? Is it true?

Is it possible that God is bigger than we tend to think?

Great point. Babies to be burned alive have a great potential for bringing good to Hamas and the Palestinians.... They do, as you well know, claim God is on their side.

But if you are accurate.. look how much further good will be accomplished in the entire world through abortion. We better all run to the voting places in Nov and mark our vote for Biden who is going to restore Roe V Wade so that good can expound into the universe.

What assumption do we make that doesn't allow us to believe that, while we make a free will choice, God is ultimately responsible for the choice we make? Isn't that an assumption we bring to the Bible? Is it true?

God is responsible for our free will choices. Lets see... a recovering alcoholic who makes the choice to drink again.

A drug addict , trying to get clean, who makes a choice to use again and play Chinese Roulette by tempting God that they wont be one of the fentanyl statistics.

The inability to stop viewing porn.

Mother's turning their little boys into girls by strapping down their penises.
Boys getting it cut off to become a girl.

Ya want more... I can't... not now because the entire human life style, if it is something that God is doing.. without explanation... makes me ready to lay down and die. Native Americans used to be able to at will. Eskimos used to send people off on a ice flow. Why cant we?
Is it possible that God is bigger than we tend to think?
Dumb question

We should examine this point more closely. Do we really think that God is good only in comparison to human beings? Might God's goodness be innate to his character and being? And what about his wisdom? Do we honestly think that we are smart enough to say that God is unable to work good through human beings' evil actions?

What is my point? Rella, we are discussing what Theologians call " the problem of Evil." Why would a good God allow evil to exist? If he is all-powerful (and he is), why does he allow evil? If he creates everything, why does he create evil? It's all part of the same question.

Why do conversations like this result in a discussion of innocent babies? Isn't it because our primary objection is against innocent suffering and arbitrary suffering?

We learn by experience that suffering leads to wisdom, which is good. As James says, those who seek wisdom shouldn't complain when God sends them suffering.

Consider Paul's statement here.
Romans 9:22-23
What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory . . .

Here, we get a small glimpse of an answer. God creates everything for a purpose. The problem of evil can only be resolved when we discover whether our suffering has a good purpose or an evil purpose. Because God is good, we conclude that God's purposes are good, even if we can't know or understand the purpose.

I realize this isn't a very satisfying answer, but it's the only one I know based on the Bible.

He created Lucifer.

Allowing something is not the same as causing it or making it happen.

You said " What assumption do we make that doesn't allow us to believe that, while we make a free will choice, God is ultimately responsible for the choice we make? Isn't that an assumption we bring to the Bible? Is it true?"

Look at the threesome... God, Satan and Job.

God's creation Satan was permitted to attack every thing of Job's except his person.

Why? Simply said.... God was proving a point to Satan that those who love him will not abandon Him when the going gets rough.

It was not God who caused Job to lose all, when he did.... it was God who permitted it.

Was He testing Job oor making a point to the one who wanted to be as God or excell above Him?

Why do conversations like this result in a discussion of innocent babies? Isn't it because our primary objection is against innocent suffering and arbitrary suffering?

Because it is the fact that a baby has not as yet had a chance to pick a side and is deemed expendable.

And the fact the baby has zero chance of defending themselves.
We learn by experience that suffering leads to wisdom, which is good. As James says, those who seek wisdom shouldn't complain when God sends them suffering.

Someday I'll tell you the story of my life ( 77 years worth) and then you can conclude I must be among those with extreme wisdom.
I realize this isn't a very satisfying answer, but it's the only one I know based on the Bible.

This is true humanly speaking. But we are talking about an all-powerful God. What does it mean to be "all-powerful" if men or angels can do evil apart from God's will?

Doesn't it also imply that Job's suffering was according to God's will? Satan was allowed to cause Job to suffer, but only under the direction of God. And since Satan needs God's permission to cause Job to suffer, doesn't this imply that God could have prevented Job's suffering?

And the young missionary couple who were ambushed with 3 truck of guys, taken to a house and beaten and killed. IN HAITI

So God did not want His word spread to the heathen....

I can think of a reason... Mathew 24:14

I'm guessing, based on your previous posts, that you can continue to provide numerous examples of bad things that happened to people. The problem with such examples is our limited perspective. Just because we can't imagine how God can bring good from such injustice doesn't mean that there wasn't good that came from it.

But we Christians look to our savior for a prime example of how God causes all things to our good. What happened to Jesus at the hands of his contemporaries was evil, and yet, his crucifixion became salvation for both Jews and Gentiles. I trust that if God can bring good from the crucifixion of the Messiah, he can bring good from the actions of other evil men. It doesn't lessen my pain, sorrow, lack of appetite or depression. But it helps me to see my own life in perspective.
