Does God send people to be eternally punished forever?

What does the Bible say on these matters?

What does all of these things mean when it pertains to the Bible?

Anyone have scriptures they would like to bring up and talk about?

    It’s very important at least to understand these things;

    Eternal can mean Age-long

Sheol is know as Paradise/Prison where in the old and new testaments it expresses that these two places are separate from each other, but it was where the dead disembodied spirits roamed; either faithful or non faithful. - Also know as Hell/Hades - the covering place for the dead.

Hell is known and referred to as Gehenna.

Hell in the Bible it self in Revelation 20 is said to have given up the dead in it, and that Hades/Hell was thrown in the Lake of fire.

So to me I don’t believe anyone is going to hell. In the Revelation 21-22 you have similar looking scenes that seem to express faithful go into the kingdom of God and faithless are outside of the kingdom because that is what they desire.

    Thoughts?

Hi @MatthewG Are you really asking what Scripture says? seems maybe that you've already decided what you'll accept and not accept.

Ephesians 2 says that ppl are 'dead in trespasses and sins'. The passage makes it clear that it's those who believe who are made alive in Christ.

An age can be unending, just like our Resurrection life. If our Resurrection life is unending then so also is the punishment of the Resurrected condemned. Moreover, a Resurrected body is incorruptible, it will not cease to be.

"And these will depart into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Moreover, it would be a contradiction for God to bring any being into non-existence, it would mean that He changed, but we know that He does not change, and so none are brought into non-being, but must be eternally punished in their existence.

@Abaxvahl what is the age lasting punishment? Is it of God or is it from the person who rejected God? Maybe living life without God is their own punishment until their age ends and resurrected?

Right. Cherry pick verses, then reinterpret them, then make up a new doctrine.

This is a flat denial of Bible doctrine and also makes God and Christ liars.

A punishment lasting through the final age of the world, which is unending, like the eternal life of the righteous. Nothing indicates anything more happens after this.

I believe we live in hell until we repent of our sin.

Where is Hell location according to the bible ?
Is it in the earth ?
Is it in false religions ?
    Is it in calamites ?
Is it somewhere in space ?
Can some place be turned into hell ?

Rev.21:4 here on Earth there will be no more pain or sorrow

If hell is on Earth or inside of it being forever then what about this verse ?

Eternal Torment for whom? Does to die or be dead or to perish or to be destroyed or to suffer corruption, mean eternal torment or does it simply mean no more opportunities, no more pleasure nor pain, no more good or evil or mediocre, no more perceptions, no more anything at all?

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Gen 2:17

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom 6:23

Where is the eternal torment or suffering in those verses? Or here?

“He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.” Job 36:6

“And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.” Jerem 21:8 No eternal suffering or torment here!

“Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.” Ezek 18:4

“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” I Cor 15:22

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” Rom 5:12

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” I Cor 1:18

“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matt 10:28

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” II Peter 3:9

“If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” I Cor 3:17

"(For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)” Phil 3:18-19

“For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” Gal 6:8

“Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” Matt 3:12

“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.” Mal 4:1

“The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.

And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked” Psalm 106-17-18

“Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” II Thess 1:9

But what will others argue against it with these scriptures?

“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” Matt 25:46

If the punishment is the wrath of God, well He never changes and yes, He does last forever. This does not mean that those punished last forever, does it?

“And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” Rev 20:10

This above says that the beast and the false prophet will be tormented forever, but it says nothing about wicked men. But then again, how long is "forever" as it is used in scripture?

“And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” Rev 14:11

When someone is “burned up” the smoke rises after the burned one is gone. He has no rest because he did not and does not have Jesus... but:

“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” Heb 4:9-11

Worms: Are they the soul of a man or the destroyer of a man’s flesh?

“And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.” Isaiah 66:24

“And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.” Mark 9:43-44

“Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.” Isaiah 14:11

“For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.” Isaiah 51:8

There really is more than what I have gathered together here, but the point is: Why do so many verses mention 'Die', 'Death', 'Destruction', 'Perish', etc. as the punishment if it in fact should be “eternal torment”?

Will he not throw Hell into the lake of fire where he can destroy both body and soul? If he destroys Hell won’t he destroy everything in Hell? The way things are worded is tricky. The flame is eternal but does that mean your spiritual body can survive it? I am not quite sure what to think. Would a God punish a spirit alive forever for something he/she did in the temporal? That doesn’t seem like a fitting punishment. Now a death penalty is also forever. If no longer exists that is pretty permanent.

Can or does or will people be delivered from hell ?
Jesus was not to be left in hell.
Hell gave up the dead Rev.20
The belief of the resurrection body from the graveyard, it come from hell.
So it seem, once someone is in hell does not mean they are locked up and never come out.

The main thing to keep in mind is that eternal life is given to the righteous not to the sinners.
We are not born with eternal life. Eternal life is a gift given.

I don't believe God 'sends' anybody to hell. He came to rescue us all through the blood of Jesus his son. it is peoples' rejection of Jesus that sends them to hell - a choice they themselves have made.

In the bibles i read, i see Rom. 6:23 saying the wages of sin is death, Eze. 18 stating twice that the soul that sins will die, Mal. 4 saying the saints of God will walk on the ashes of the condemned. and Rev. 20 saying the unrepentant will be condemned to a second and permanent death. I don't expect adherents of Orthodox Christianity to understand this because the Law means nothing to them, but the capital punishment that was enforced under the former covenant was a physical type of the second death.

The same word is used for eternal life as is used for everlasting torment.

If one is temporary, then both are.

Temporary eternal life would be an oxymoron.

Hell is temporary in that the contents of hell are emptied into the lake of fire.

If temporary eternal life is contradictory, then so is temporary everlasting torment.

Other than the devil and possibly the beast and false prophet - depending on which translation is being used - do you have any scripture which specifically says that folks are going to be tormented 24/7 for eternity?
