Former HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines are facing backlash for their new reality show which features a same-sex couple.

They claim to be Christians, but "Back to the Frontier," is a show about three American families who attempt to survive as 1880s homesteaders, debuted on HBO Max on July 10. The Gaines are executive producers of the Magnolia Network series, the cable network they co-founded with Warner Bros. Discovery, which was promoted as featuring "family-friendly unscripted programming."

After clips of the show were shared on social media, the Gaines' were criticized by conservative Christian pastors, organizations and media commentators over the show casting two Texas dads and their 10-year-old twin sons, who were born via a surrogate.
Critics claimed the Gaines were promoting an anti-biblical lifestyle while they'd built a media empire professing their Christian faith.

Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan's Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, called the casting decision "very disappointing."

"While we are to love people, we should love them enough to tell them the truth of God’s Word," he wrote on social media. "His Word is absolute truth. God loves us, and His design for marriage is between one man and one woman. Promoting something that God defines as sin is in itself sin."

I believe we Christians have to treat everybody with respect and kindness just as Jesus would do. Same sex couples or anybody else. Telling the truth in love is very often an excuse for finger pointing.

Yes we should politely tell the "same sex couples" that they are on their way to hell because Jesus does not allow perverts in to His Kingdom and they need to repent and turn away from their sexual perversion and get born again and live for the Lord instead of being perverts.

John 8:6-8

6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stoneL at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground

How many of us came to Jesus because somebody pointed a finger and told us we living our lives wrongly. I know I didn't, it was a gentle push from the Holy Spirit that brought me to Jesus. I think most people would dig their heels in if they were aggressively told they were wrong in their life choices.

Just as a question here because I'm not in LAW ENFORCEMENT on earth or in Heaven....except within my own household.

Doing business with non-believers? Is that the question?
The Gains have a business of remodel/restoration of old homes and often use shiplap as a interior finish. (Not my cup of tea but whatever) All this happens in the Waco, Texas area.

They also have several product lines for homes rebranded with their names and logo.

I'm not exactly sure what the whole issue is?
We live in a lost and fallen world. I must do business (retail and B2B) with "sinners" and unbelievers. Jesus even ate meals with those who did not believe. (Judas, Simeon and etc)

So....is that the problem?
Or is it that they are visible on television?

Granted I change the channel when two guys or girls are kissing or something. I don't want to see that EVER as it's disgusting. Unfortunately i have been surprised by its appearance a few times. (It's television and Hollywood...it's their goal in life to desensitize us to such things....it doesn't work but whatever)

So....
Can someone explain to me how this is so wrong for the Gains to do?

This is deeply troubling and is a matter that has to be dealt with clearly and biblically. A person cannot claim to be a Christian and also publicly affirm and celebrate sin. Such talk is not just hypocritical. It is deceitful.

The Bible is very clear that homosexuality is sin (Romans 1: 26–27; 1 Corinthians 6:9–10; Leviticus 18:22), and the Bible is just as clear that marriage is between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–6). Homosexual unions are not a “marriage alternative.” Homosexual unions are an alternative rebellion against God and His design for marriage.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have, by word and deed, indicated that they hold views that are contrary to the Bible’s clear teachings. Claiming to be Christian, they are using the platform of celebrity influence to affirm, normalize, and celebrate a lifestyle that the Bible describes as sin. Such behavior is not loving, it is not faithful to Christ. It is compromise. It is cowardice masquerading as love and kindness. Ephesians 5: 11: “Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

Pastor Franklin Graham was correct in his assessment that this is “very disappointing.” In fact, it’s even worse. It is a “stumbling block” (Luke 17:1–2). Chip and Joanna Gaines have built a business in the name of Christian values. They have built a reputation and an audience based on being a “down to earth” Christian family. Then they turned around and turned their platform, influence, and voice over to what God calls sin. This is not a mistake. This is hypocrisy.

Jesus said in Luke 9: 26, “Whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed.” And James 4:4 says, “Know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?”

May this be a warning to all who are watching. Not everyone who claims to follow Jesus actually does (Matthew 7:21–23). Real, authentic Christians do not champion sin. They do not provide it a platform. They do not fund it. They do not market it. They lovingly call sin what it is, not in order to attack people and make them feel bad. But to call them to repentance and to point them to the Savior, Jesus Christ, so they can have forgiveness and eternal life.

There is no such thing as a “neutral” public position on sin. Either you take the side of God and His Word, or you take the side of the world.

The Gaines family needs prayer, yes, but they also need bold correction. Because to claim to be a follower of Christ, but then publicly to promote ungodliness and to champion sin, is not Christianity. It is counterfeit Christianity, and it will lead many people down a path of confusion and destruction.

“Be not deceived: God is not mocked” (Galatians 6:7).

"Loving your neighbor" does not include Tolerating their OPEN sexual depravity.

Far Too many Christians are ""woke""".... and believe that the more they Tolerate what God doesn't.. the more progressive they are, the more enlightened.
In fact, its just the opposite.

I agree that we need to show God's love for sinners. I would also say that it is wrong to do as some do, and pick out certain sins, like same sex relationships, as being more sinful than other sins. We read in Romans that the wages of sin is death, not that the wages of certain sins is death. We shouldn't finger-point, because we are all sinners. Praise God, if we know Jesus Christ to be our Saviour, we are saved sinners.

The Gaines are not theologians or Christian leaders of any sort....they have said that part repeatedly.
They are house remodelers and product sellers....promoting modern farmhouse interior designs. (Shiplap inside)

IOW they do business with sinners.
As a chef, electrician, truck driver, and salesman I worked next to and with sinners all the time. Had to if I wanted a career. So do the Gaines. I don't see them promoting homosexuality....just interior design and their product lines.

Why is everyone being so hard on them?

I don't get the issue. Homosexuals have money like everyone else. And some homosexuals don't have interior design skills or clothing fashion sense. They need professional help.

How we treat others (including sinners) is important. This couple is treating everyone fairly and equally that happens to like modern farmhouse interior finishes. Even if they have no religious affiliation.

There are times I've had to work for or with people I really had a strong distaste for, some I couldn't stand and some I believed that the world would be better off if they died. But I wasn't there to preach at them or to them. I was there to work. And I did just that.

However, my being able to work next to and for these people provided opportunities to witness and counsel many others....and because I lived a lifestyle that allows me to work next to and for these people those others listened carefully to every word I said...otherwise they would have rejected everything i had to say about God out of hand.

My bakery sold cakes, pies, tarts, cookies, eclairs and etc to thin and fat people, straight and homosexuals alike. Was I wrong?

Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone

Just because we have all sinned in the past does not mean we should not warn sexual perverts that they are on the highway to hell and they need to repent and live for Jesus

What we are meant to do is show God's love to people.

And God's Love speaks the Truth (God's Word) which tells up sexual perversion is a sin that leads people to hell.

Sadly some among us claim to be Christians but refuse to speak Truth (God's Word) and are happy to let people go to hell without trying to help them repent and come to the Lord. These are fake christians, tares, servants of the devil.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have, by word and deed, indicated that they hold views that are contrary to the Bible’s clear teachings.

Exactly, which is why they are fake christians, tares, servants of the devil.

I may surprise you but those making the greatest noise about fake christians are quiet likely the fakes.

So in your view Christians should be like Chip and Joanna Gaines and be sin friendly, right?

we need to expose ALL , not some , all sins .
YE shall not hate your neighbor in your heart you SHALL in any WAY correct him and NOT ALLOW sin upon him .
WHERES THE LOVE IN SEEKER FRIENDLY . Its the love of the world , NOT OF GOD .
it allows folks to remain in sin
and at most it only rebukes those who correct sin and behaves as though the very words of GOD ARE WICKED AND EVIL .
we got problems friend .

Pearl, I agree with your point—Jesus paid the price for sin, and ultimately, what individuals choose to do with their lives is between them and God.

My mother once lived with a kind-hearted couple named Pat and Gary, who owned a pet shop in Michigan. From all she shared, they were genuinely decent people. I find it hard to imagine that someone like Pat, even if we’re unsure of his beliefs, would be denied access to the Kingdom purely on that basis.

Often, pointing fingers or passing judgment becomes an unfortunate habit, but such actions warrant honest self-reflection. Personally, I believe that judging others in this way is misguided. We no longer live in ancient Israel under the Mosaic Law—we live by faith through the Spirit, and are called to walk in love. Unfortunately, love can be challenging for many, and instead of extending grace, some seek justification to harbor resentment.

God is absolutely aware of what stirs within the human heart. It's troubling when people overlook this and treat others with contempt or indifference.

On a personal note, my nephew is gay, and while I struggle at times with aspects of his behavior, I don’t believe God hates him. Only God can truly see the heart and determine where each soul belongs—inside or outside His Kingdom.

These are my personal reflections, and I understand they may not resonate with everyone. Still, it’s important to remember that we interact with people every day who carry deep wounds—some from trauma, others from mental illness—and that includes those we encounter on forums like this.

When Scripture tells us to pray for all people, not just some, it’s calling us to a posture of humility and compassion. That’s a principle worth taking seriously.
