For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

I have experienced a great deal of the supernatural... Both good and bad. Witnessed stuff. Christians fall over one another preaching against the dark forces and the evils of the occult... How they manipulate minds, cast spells, work magic, use mediums both alive and inanimate through entertainment such as Harry Potter etc etc etc. And they are right to do so!
But those same Christians, who do generously grant the devil so much power and glory to do virtually what he likes unimpeded, believe God has restricted Himself so that the devil can't accuse Him of being unfair or taking advantage. But are there not angels, good angels, constantly ministering to us, helping, guiding, encouraging, convicting, convincing, rebuking, informing, teaching, and generally working very very hard for the kingdom of God in order we understand it and stay faithful to it without falling on our stupid faces? And when an angel speaks through us to others, God is using us in the prophetic ministry. So we become His messengers. That's how God works. We are ambassadors and representatives to the world, revealing the character of God to those in darkness, confusion, and deception. If prophets were necessary to be a part of that process before the first appearance of our Lord, how much more needful before His appearing to take His people home?

Who says that the Bible is dead (Q) Certainly not Christ nor the apostles. And to suggest that only Christ is the living Word of God is to contradict Scripture. Surely nothing which a Christian should be doing.
For the word of God (the Bible) is quick, (alive, living) and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. (Heb 4:12,13)
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. (1 Pet 1:23-25)
And when a man, or a devil or satan misuses scripture against God or a servant of God, is that scripture the Word of God?
"And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone." Matt 4:6
The tempter was quoting the following verses... which are also scripture:
"For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone." Psalm 91:11-12
But Jesus rebuked the tempter for misusing the scripture.
"Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." Matt 4:7
Who is able to misuse the Word of God? Can we trust in that which can be misused?
"So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word." Psalm 119:42
Dave you can't pick and choose which scriptures you will follow and which ones you won't. You are either a believer of it....in it's entirety....or you are a non-believer. If you are teaching others your understanding of the Bible in ignorance do you realize you will be held accountable for leading sheep astray?
I'm teaching what it says in print. And not speculating further. I've already shown that it does not support charismatic claims for today. I would be adding to it to say otherwise. It's like being a musician in the symphony. Play only the notes on the page.
I think there is a distinction between a sense of personal divine guidance and revelation in Scripture which is complete.

I was going by reports I heard many years ago. Just looking I found this:
Kathryn has passed away on February 20, 1976 at the age of 68. Kathryn's cause of death was cause of death complications from open heart surgery.
Still interesting such as self proclaimed healing powerhouse cannot heal yourself.
But some others like her did die of cancer. A large number in fact.
So one that one statement I stand corrected.
Yes, I had listened to her on TV at times.
Out of respect for you I will not say more about her except for those who want to know more an Internet search is informative.
Family history can be an arresting. I had one 3rd cousin who was governor of Kentucky. Another was a bank robber who was shot 23 times and lived.
A more distant one was a wizard. My great great grandmother was the chief's daughter.
And of course my family was part of the bloody breathett feud, which they won.
Family histories can be interesting.
Thank you. Admittedly, she was a bit on the extreme side, but it just bugs me to have people running her down when all they know of her is something they read in Wikipedia.

By claiming that John gave you the idea that there are no prophets since John, you are calling John, God, Joel, Peter, and Paul lairs.
Obviously, you are blinded to their complete word on the subject.
The no prophets today error proceeds from all those that have denied the baptism in the Holy Spirit. They walk in the ignorance of their flesh.
Brother Jude referred to them as "having not the Spirit".
Spiritual things cannot be discerned by the natural man. Esau is yet attempting to comprehend Jacob. The elder, the flesh man, shall server the younger, the born again creation of God. Esau is firmly seated in a denominational pew.
The simplest things of the Spirit of the living God cannot ever be comprehended by the natural man, usually a member of a denomination or sect that has been taught denial of God's gifts.
They attempt to use part of God's word to disprove another, as if God changed and disagreed with his former decisions. Ecclesiastes "PI", 3:14 tells us the finality of what God has had his prophets write.

Of course there is....and my question to Dave or rather statement was whether or not he has ever heard God speak to him directly......to which he replied he only listens to scripture. So in this case he can't stand on the scriptures that say "my sheep HEAR my voice and no other voice will they follow".....nor the scripture that says "they have eyes to see and ears to hear...."

My final point is that Dave is limited to certain scriptures only...not the entire Word of God.
It wasn't for you and your knowing whether it was Him or not is irrelevant.
I can't find your experience in scripture so I'm Leary. If you could do a search on the church, possibly try to remember the speakers and look them up too, it might help you to verify your experience.
You can't find Paul's experiences in the Bible before they happened either yet he testifies they did happen.....and he says "by the word of our testimony they overcame him..."
Revelation 12:11 They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
When posters are silent about hearing from God you may as well find something else to do for ESAU will never listen. They ignore the Scriptures that crowd their unfaithful beliefs.
Just by reading a few posts you can discern the spirit of the natural man and denominational dead dogma that permeates their words.
They show up to straighten out us unfortunates who believe God and take him at his word.
They were nursed on the paps of Dr. Dumb-vinity, the seminary educated man that can prove that God no longer does anything and it's all up to the program he assembled.
God does not need idea men or women. God needs obedient servants.
I have ceased to answer these anti Holy Spirit outsiders for it is vanity and vexation of spirit to interact with them.
Whether they be protest nt, so called, or catholic, so called they are stubborn and stiffnecked and always resist God's Holy Spirit as say the scripture.
I treasure my peace so refuse to go into a pitched battle over their unbelief.
Only through some act of God in their lives will they finally humble themselves before God and bow before the Holy Spirit.
Shake off the dust of your feet and go joyfully on your way with the Lord Jesus and his Holy Spirit.
God does whatsoever he pleases. He is ALL. All powerful, all knowing, omnipresent, omnipotent. OM-everything.
He will never transgress his word the Bible and is never limited in the latitude he has to accomplish his will.
I truly lament the state of the naysayers but will not yield to their anti Holy Spirit doctrines. They are to be pitied but not heeded.
God knows how to deal with them! When a great need arises in their life they will make a paper airplane from their dead dogma doctrine and sail it out the window. Then they will begin to plead for the very things they denied that God still does.
God knows the reasonings of the wise - that they are useless.
