How can you say that when the Scripture plainly says "they shall fail". The Greek word there is καταργηθήσονται (katargēthēsontai).
Strong's Concordance
katargeó: to render inoperative, abolish
Original Word: καταργέω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: katargeó
Phonetic Spelling: (kat-arg-eh'-o)
Definition: to render inoperative, abolish
Usage: (a) I make idle (inactive), make of no effect, annul, abolish, bring to naught, (b) I discharge, sever, separate from.
I did not suggest any such thing. Prophecy = DIVINE REVELATION. Those revelations have ceased, and all that we need in terms of revelations is right there in the Bible.
It says the gifts will fail but love will go on. All gifts, not just prophecy.
You want to get technical, I can as well. In the New Jerusalem there is no need for prophecy but there still will be love.
Fail means to end.
The verse is not limited to just the church or while this planet is populated.
You obviously do not know what prophecy means. It is not limited in context to the major prophets of the Old Testament or the apostles.
The gift of prophecy is still given today. But always for a purpose, same as with tongues or any other gift. It never adds anything to Bible revelation.
1 Corinthians 14:3 New International Version (NIV)
3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.
