-- So they are going to hell because they are obese....but not gluttons because "being a glutton does not condemn a person to hell?" Priceless
Yep! You got me again Foreigner! I lumped all obese people into the category as gluttons instead of making sure to separate out the 5% of people who are obese because of health related reasons. I guess I am just as guilty as you for condemning all homosexuals to hell without singling out the cognitively impaired and mentally ill folks who engage in homosexual behavior. Shame on us!--
"Sin of gluttony?" If a person is comitting sin, how are they not going to hell if they don't repent?
Ah the mental gymnastics of trying to justify one population of sinners, while reserving the God-given right to condemn another "Next up on the balance beam, the double negative!" Keeping twisting and turning my words Foreigner; like all of your attempts to prove your point; attacking the person, not the issue, is key.
-- There's that phrase again: "sin of gluttony." The sin you are proven to be participating in if you are obese (your own claim).
Let me clear up the water you like to muddy; once again, as the thread has progressed, I have recognized the 5% of people who are obese because of medical issues.
-- Hmmmm....how do you know that those at the pulpits are gluttons? According to you it is because they are obese.
Unless they are one of the 5% of people who are obese because of medical reasons.
Ergo, since gluttony is a sin and sin causes you to go to hell, and anyone who is obese is OBVIOUSLY a glutton, anyone who is obese is obviously going to hell...........and yet you are concerned about people judging homosexuals unfairly?
Yes, indeed you are.
BTW thanks for not including this quote from me:
"Now, am I advocating the condemnation of obese people? No!! I am advocating the same mercy obese people receive in the church for all sinners, even homosexuals."
It makes your negative assessment of my character so much more compelling.
Dude, you are making a joke of yourself.
Thank you for helping me practice humility by insulting me.
Ducky was right. You clearly have a pro-homosexual agenda.
Well, if calling homosexual acts sinful is having a pro-homosexual agenda, I guess I am guilty. Once again, my point, which is clearly stated in the OP is to highlight the fact that churches rank sin - gluttony (an epidemic) is ignored in most churches, while homosexuality (a sin practiced by a tiny portion of the population) is roundly condemned. I am simply wondering why.
Your implication is that Christians jump all over homosexuals they know but give those who are "gluttons" a pass.
My opinion is much more than an implication and is much different from having a pro-homosexual agenda.
Your proof? By your own standard it is because you see Obese people in the pews or on the pulpits and you personally have not seen someone witnessing to them.
Umm....is this a court of law or an opinion board? I base all my opinions on what I read or experience, just like you do.
So according to you a self-proclaiming non-repentant homosexual, and a person who is fat are both automatically doomed to hell.
No. Your statement reflects your bias - you believe all homosexuals are unrepentant and all 'fat' people (your word) are repentant. My point has nothing to do with Hell - the only time I mentioned Hell was to highlight the hypocrisy of many people in the church by applying their judgmental attitude towards homosexuals to gluttons - sorry it confused you.
What a royal crock. Or, to use scientific terminology: you are absolutely full of it.
Full of what?
You are more concerned about homosexual "rights" than you are their eternal salvation. You know....the thing God is most concerned with.
I am concerned about hypocrisy and judgmental attitudes in the church because it hurts the sinner and the Christian. Who said God is most concerned with salvation? God is most concerned with being in relationship with us and teaching us how to regain our true nature by learning to love again through sanctification. I am sorry to hear that all you are concerned about is wholesale salvation, as if it is a product that we need to sell to people.
You (frequently) accuse anyone who witnesses to homosexuals of being abusive and accusatory, while you yourself - by your own admission - do NOTHING to help keep people from going to hell.
I am not sure I have limited my disdain for abusive and accusatory behavior to just witnessing to homosexuals - I speak against it whenever I see it. By NOTHING, do you mean not confronting people's personal sin and inviting them to pray the sinner's prayer, every time I see them? I've clearly stated that I witness all the time and like St. Francis, use words when necessary. Doesn't carrying around all those strawmen get tiring?
If you wish to continue to live as an armchair Christian, fine.
But you really should lay off those who are actually doing what God calls them to do - witness in love to those who are lost.
Ah the smell of righteous indignation in the morning!
