That argument doesn't work. Matthew reports Jairus as saying his daughter was dead; Mark and Luke have Jairus saying she's close to death. What did Jairus really say?What did Jesus say? "He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth."
In any case, "sleep" is a common biblical euphemism for death (see John 11:11, also in the context of the resurrection of the dead Lazarus), the text makes quite clear that the girl really was dead (see Luke 8:53,55), and the lesson here is that Jesus can raise the dead just as easily as waking up a 12-year-old-girl from sleep. Can you believe that, even if Matthew disagrees with Mark and Luke about what Jairus said?
