This regards the place of our being where we are met with the Father. I wrote a poem about it. Here it is. :)

The Life of John Doe

John went off to college and said, I am a college student.
John had some jobs in college and said, I am a cook, I am a cashier.
John played sports at college and said, I am a basketball player.
John finished college and said, I am a college graduate.

John got a job and said, I am a high school teacher.
John got married and said, I am a husband.
John got politically active and said, I am a Democrat.

John found religion and said, I am a sinner.
John believed and said, I am a Christian.

John said, I am these things.

***

One day, John realized he didn't play basketball anymore.
Nor was he a cashier, a cook or a college student.
He works as an accountant, is divorced and votes Republican.
He hasn't been to church in a few years.

John said, Am I these things I said I was?
Or, are these just like coats that I put on and take off?
What remains within, beneath all these cloaks?

These things are not me, that I take as my identity!
And from the ground of his being, John simply said,

I am.

Sounds like John landed up on a solitary i-land.

We are what God has defined us to be and should reserve the name 'I AM' for Him!

Very insightfull. A little disturbing though...I'm sorry, but you can't say you are "I am" unless you go to Church. That is where God's word is being preached and the Christ in you is manifested.

Thank you.

Think of 'I am' in the sense in which you probably use it every day:

Who is reading your post? I am.
Who is typing a response to you? I am.
Who is about to post this? I am.

Beneath all the cloaks of self,
At the ground of our being,
Where we can simply say, I am,
We may be one with the Great I AM.

~sigh~
Once again, each of those 'I am's' are followed by a verb (action). Apart from a modifier, the human 'I am' is meaningless alone.
Go ahead, walk into a mental hospital and announce 'I am' (continually) and you will end up getting free room and board.
