The number-one question being asked of the USGS

Posted by Brad Macdonald at 8:17 pm on April 8, 2010

According to Heidi Koontz, the Public Affairs specialist at the United States Geological Service, the most popular question the American public is asking the usgs lately is: Is this the end of the world?

It seems four massive quakes in as many months in Haiti, Chile, Mexico and Indonesia has a growing number of American’s recalling passages in Matthew 24 and the book of Revelation and nervously wondering if the end of the world might indeed be at hand.

“I received a call from a psychiatrist who is getting an influx of patients who are really concerned about the end of days,” says Koontz, “and he wanted us to pinpoint science and provide him with links to science that would help allay the fears of some of his patients. He needed some hard facts and he said that that actually helped.”

Of course, usgs scientists—being scientists—downplay the notion that there is more to these rumblings than the natural clashing and creaking of tectonic plates. This is all pretty normal, seismologist Harley Benz told Fox News. “You can expect earthquakes in locations where we are known to have earthquakes,” he says. “In this case, in Sumatra, it’s one of the most seismically active areas in the world. Likewise Chile is one of the most seismically active areas in the world.”

Benz may be right. Perhaps geologically these earthquakes are not anomalous.

But is the death of nearly a quarter of a million people from earthquakes in the past four months alone normal?

While the number of Quakes have not gone up, nor the severity. What use to hit oceans, now for some reason are hitting populated areas. Very interesting is something Jesus Said.

Luk 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

the word in Greek for Places is topos, or spot. Jesus made a point that the Earthquakes would be in Certain places. The Thayer Greek says this.

1) place, any portion or space marked off, as it were from surrounding space
1a) an inhabited place, as a city, village, district

While many believers have been looking for a increase in the number of Earthquakes to prove what Jesus was saying is right, I think we need to switch our focus to where these events are occurring. Jesus does not portray that there will be more, but specific targets, that will be devastating.

The scientific community will point out that Earthquakes have not increased, and so we must be wrong. I say, just count the dead from the ones we did have, and go re-figure your calculations.

As for the End???? No, not for awhile yet. Remember, we still have a time where most will say where is his coming, and things continue as before. We raised the end of the World flags several times and nothing happened. (Remember Y2K and how foolish Christians were then?) Sadly, I feel that many Christians will be lulled to sleep spiritually, and it will be to late.

Peole have been saying when is coming for 2000 years Mike What do you think the Thessolonians was talking about in
1 Thess. they heard rumors Christ had returned and wondered where the dead were ? Thats the subject of 1 Thess. where are the dead ... 2 Thess. was written to correct this error the subject of second Thess. is our gathering back to the Lord which will not happen til after Anti Christ, the man of sin is revealed.

In the 1860's people gathered to wait for Lord thinking he would be coming, this happened again and again in the 19th and 20 th century this prophecy has already been fulfilled time and again.

Careful you are not one who is in a lull we do not have long, Those with eyes to see the signs and seasons are feeling and seeing this thats why its the #1 topic today amoung Christians God has put in on their hearts time is short. How short watch the signs as we are told ... and do not listen to men.

Good observation Christina. We have had several Doom's day, Day's set. (Say that fast 50 times.)

I know things are taking place that are making others talk and the buzz word is "End Times" I am not discounting that.

I believe that these things must be, and we are going to enter into a time where it may seem like these things have passed. Then............... BAM!!!!!

Sure, we have lost a lot of peeps in a short time to Earthquakes. But what would happen if the several fault lines gave away at once? California and the Mid-West? at the Same time several in China, and other places gave out?

Jesus said these things will accompany signs in Heaven. Now we had a fireball recently, and some UFO sightings, no big deal. Signs that will make mans heart fail.

I don't know, it just seems to me that we are just starting to notice things, and to keep watching and praying.

I know you have probably never been in labour  Mike but there is no lull and them boom
Trust me I have been there more than once ...
God says the End times are labour pains, the pains (signs ) get closer together, get harder (more noticable worse ) last longer until there is no break ..no lull ...
you barely have one End and another begins this iis how it will be ... No lul the fact we are really seeing these things only tells you they are getting closer together and harder (worse)
When we see signs on top of signs earthquakes, Volcano's, fire balls in the sky all happing on top of each other and seen around the World add war in the mideast on the near horizon we better be paying attention.

Does this mean I think the End is tomorrow... NO.... its just time to be watchman on the wall

OK, I got where your coming from. You say that things are going to continue to get worse and worse. Won't be much of a surprise then I suppose. I can't argue though, I have not put the time and study that you have. So, I have to take your word for it.

Thanx Christina, for getting me sorted out (again) That is why I am here.

I think the signs point to saying it is beginning of something huge that could happen in 2012, a lot of natural disasters have been occuring lately, surely the Lord is warning us that something is coming? It may be a bigger disaster but not necessarily the end of the world.

If indeed something supernatural is about to break, and if indeed the reader accepts this premise then one must consider those prophecies which are to follow.
All of these natural disasters are but the beginning of woes upon the earth. Much is yet to come. It is said that evil will multiply and the church will wither.

Murder, adultery, fornication and godlessness are now considered awardable entertainment and approved philosophy. The great apostasy is already upon us and those who read will see this is true. The Roman Catholic church, once a bastion of virtue and truth is now under attack from all sides. The protestant church has either gone so liberal that it is no longer recognizable as a religious organization or it has become so politically inept that it has lost its credibility in spiritual matters.

The key to all Biblical prophecy is to watch Israel. More and more that nation will become the focus of spiritual forces, political agitation and military adventure.

2012 disaster scenarios are a joke, but they do sell books and movies.
The Mayan calendar is cyclical and 12-21-2012 is merely the end of one great massive cycle similar to 12-31-2000.
