Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith...what does this mean?

Just things around me breaking, on top of the usuals stressors. First my desk phone at work, then my work printer, then, on my way home, my car sailed away on a towtruck as I stood there in the street. It's getting a new starter today.

I have been looking into this deeper as I have read it, quoted it and assumed I understood it's meaning. Then I decided maybe it goes deeper than what I understand.

Hebrews 12:2. An author is an originator or creator, as of a theory or plan. The Greek word translated “author” in Hebrews 12:2 can also mean “captain,” “chief leader” or “prince.” Acts 3:15 uses the same word: “And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses” (KJV), while the NIV and ESV use the word “author” instead of “prince.” From this we can deduce that Christ is the originator of our faith in that He begins it, as well as the captain and prince or our faith. Putting the two words together, we see that Jesus, as God, both creates and sustains our faith. We know that saving faith is a gift from God, not something we come up with on our own (Ephesians 2:8-9), and that gift comes from Christ, its creator. He is also the sustainer of our faith, meaning that true saving faith cannot be lost, taken away or given away. This is a source of great comfort to believers, especially in times of doubt and spiritual struggles. Christ has created our faith and He will watch over it, care for it, and sustain it.
It is important for us to understand that God in Christ is not only the creator and sustainer of our saving faith, but He is also the sustainer of our daily walk and the finisher of our spiritual journey. For if God in Christ is not the author of our new life, and if Christ is not the finisher and perfecter of our faith through the Holy Spirit’s indwelling power, then we are neither born again nor are we a true follower of Christ. “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” “In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory” (Philippians 1:6; Ephesians 1:13-14).
Colossians 2:9-15 tells us, exactly, HOW Christ does what you have described above.
Colossians 2:9-15 KJV - "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 [And] having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

That's awesome! So you are acknowledging that Jesus has lifted the Curse of Adam and Eve from your Heart. You have been Truly set free! This is the True Gospel, the Gospel that virtually no pastor or teacher is willing to promote. And what is so important is this . . . that you can now point to the very "Heart" of the Bible to show others exactly what Jesus has done for you. He has lifted the Veil, the Curse of Adam and Eve so that you can See and Walk in Christ. Without the Curse, the Holy Veil, you are controlled by the Spirit of God.
2 Corinthians 3:14-16 NASB - "But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ. 15 But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart; 16 but whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away."
When pastors lead people into Submission of Christ, thus leading to water baptism, I wish that they would make sure that they understand the Holy Work of Christ. If our pastors don't teach the specific Work of Christ, then "Christ" because whatever we want Him to be . . . but believing in a Jesus other than the one described in Colossians 2:9-15, is a broken belief system that will not save anyone. Salvation can only take place unless the Curse has been lifted. That Curse is the whole reason for Jesus coming to earth . . . to lift the Curse and replace it with the Blessing and Promises, established in the life of Abraham, and fulfilled in the Life of Christ.

I wholeheartedly acknowledge it! I think it finally dawned on me when I was meditating on Roman's 5:15-20....it said it repeatedly that by one man (Adam) all were made sinners....
And in God's Infinite Wisdom He made One man (Jesus) to become the righteousness for all nullifying the curse brought on by the first man.
And then it hit me...it really and truly is by the obedience of Christ who remained sinless to take upon Himself all of man's sins....
It also amazes me how God could cause our spirit to reborn because the flesh can only be born once....and allow our spirit to continue in the flesh that is still corrupt....therefore it is the heart of man that He will judge not the flesh.

I am so excited for you! Friend, you are being awakened to the hidden, Mysterious Plan of God. Not many people have been Enabled to see it . . . it appears that you are one of a Remnant that is being allowed. Hang on to yourself, because your Biblical understanding is about to explode wide open, and your fire for the Lord will never diminish if you are persistent in asking, seeking, and knocking. Don't ever stop! "Christians" of today stop asking, seeking, and knocking, for they virtually all feel that they have "arrived." I get it. I totally get it, nonetheless, it is True.
Below are the three passages that will give a full and proper view of the Entire Bible. So as you are establishing many points through Roman 5 (Keystone Chapter of the Bible! Nice find!), now take Romans 5 and process it through the Triangle of Truth in the thumbnail below. Read Ephesians 3 first and then the Ephesians 2 passage set second. At the Crown of the Triangle is Colossians 2:9-15 . . . the utter Pinnacle of the Entire Bible. The more you attempt to understand ALL of God's Word through these three passage sets, the more His Holy Word will be illuminated . . . and the more Knowledge He provides, the more you will become separated from virtually everyone you've ever known. Finally, you will feel like a True Stranger and Alien in this miserable World.

He is my blessing...He is my reward...He is my inheritance.Amen...and it has taken all these years to finally accept myself as one with the will to do what is right but at times fail to do it....that has led me to rejoice ever more that I have a redeemer who lives in me and who became the righteousness of God for me.
There is so much weight that has been lifted off of my heart and I find it even more joyous to seek His Will with confidence instead of shame and guilt.
You know what I mean....it's hard to ask God for blessings when your walk is a little wobbly at times.
I often wobble when I walk...
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face to you and give you peace. :)

He inspires faith, he encourages and maintains faith and brings it to fruition at his return. I wasn't looking into His qualifications...I was seeking a deeper understanding of what it means.
I had a rough day a few months ago my self.
I was doing some yard work and had some pain in my chest, My Wife made me to go the Hospital, Spent the night. The next day they told me I didn't have a hart attack, But I did have heart problems and OH by the way you also have cancer.
The whole thing was rather strange. Most people would have felt like they were just punched in the gut. But I felt like it just bounced right off of me. There was a calm that came over me. I have taken no meds or treatment nor will I. I know that, this to will pass and it shall be well. For no weapon formed against me can prosper. God told me that I will be alive when Jesus returns, and nothing can stop that from cumming to pass. All glory belongs to GOD.

I would have thought that understanding what inspiration or someone having your back means was self evident.
That is exactly how I feel about it as well! Let His Word be true and every man's a lie...(if spoken contrary to HIS Word)....I stand in agreement with you brother!
