It's a learning curve Nancy..
I take no offence. I forgive Mary. It's ok...

It might get messy, but maybe it will eventually get resolved
I don't know for sure, but we can pray

:D
Hey Ziggy....Anything I say is not personal...It's just passion.

Respectfully, Mary

Wait a minute....Exactly WHAT are you forgiving me for? :contemplate:

So you want to go from John 6 and the bread from heaven which is the OP,
to The Holy Spirit doing the interpreting of scripture to any who will listen?
NO, going from John 6 to the Holy Spirit doing the interpreting of Scripture is what YOU interjected into the conversation. Remember when I called you a troll and posting irrelevant stuff?

I understand. And I realize sometimes passion can get a bit unruly.
So let's forgive eachother and carry on, shall we?

Ok..

So in order to have context we have to go to the beginning of the letter right?

In 1 John chapter 1 verse 4, who is John speaking to?
1Jo 1:4
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

Who is you?

Once we get that down then we know anything going forward is addressed to this "you" alone and no one else?
Is that what you believe?
FACT: 1 John is a letter to the Churches in the time he wrote them.

So YOU are the Churches in the 1st century. They were having a problem with heretical teachings.

Ok, so here is the skinny..
I'm enjoying the conversation concerning the bread from heaven, the anointing as the teacher, and who did John write his letters to.
Now, you can call me what you like, or say what I'm sharing is irrelevant, but that's not going to keep me, or chase me away from a great conversation.
So let's carry on.
The ball is in your court.
What would YOU like to discuss?
I'm open to anything.

Very good question. Thank you.

Some of it may be relevant today, but that would have to be looked at vs by vs.

Thank you. Much better than my conversation with EG.

When Scripture mentions bread we can not and should not look at that one passage and try to figure out what it means. It has to be taken into context of ALL of Scripture.

Does that make sense? Do you disagree with that use of hermenutics?

That sounds reasonable.
Does all scripture include both the old and the new testaments?

And Mary, I have to make dinner for dad, I would like to continue this conversation.
So you write whatever you want concerning John 6, and as soon as I come back we can discuss it.
Sound good?

No problem. It is getting close to dinner time and I work this weekend so I won't get back to you until monday.

Yes, ALL of Scripture includes OT and NT. I will use both to talke about the Bread Jesus spoke of in John 6.....

In john 6 Jesus told his disciples that we must eat Him.

However, he had yet to show them how to eat him. He did this at the Last Supper.

Paul then re-affirmed what Jesus said about the last supper.

to be continued...the plot thickens.

time to bake bread.

Fun Christmas prank. Put some cans of juice under the sink. Open one can to see if it became wine. At dinner, ask G_d to change the juice into wine and serve it.

And YOU want me to focus on the book of John ONLY and ignore everything else Jesus said AND the Apostles said AND what a student of the Apostle John said AND historical Christian writings that prove you wrong.

Hello Mary.

I've always felt that John wrote his gospel and included the ' Bread of Life' discourse to combat the rising gnostics who were rejecting the Eucharist. The letters of his student Ignatius make it clear how St. John felt about it.

I've also often pondered whether

This is how you can know the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ come in the flesh be longs to God,

is indeed a Eucharistic reference

But what does the Flesh represent? It has to be Life?
And it is the Spirit that is life, the flesh profiteth nothing.

Hello ziggy,

Indeed our flesh counts for nothing.. our perceptions, our reasonings and thoughts..

what matters are His words!

the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world

For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread,

and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.

For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.
