goading" was your word I just reused it to make a point!
Jesus said to the pharisee "club members"="Woe to you Scribes and Pharisees . . . Hypocrits!"

Yes, well it's what I think you do, so that's why I used it.

Jesus was flat out correcting people here, which is more the type of thing I do. If you'll remember I flat out told you a few things on a previous thread. Those words weren't meant to goad you into any responses; they were intended to pinpoint exactly what I think is wrong with some of your... let's say not so great posting. I don't wanna go through it again. But the point is that as Christians we shouldn't be deliberately goading someone into strife and debate like poking a horse in the side with something sharp to make it react and start running, and in a negative way. It's akin to what Jesus was teaching when he said, "Cast not your pearls before swine, lest they turn and rend you." Animals don't take it well when you antagonize them, and that's what people in the flesh are: like animals. So if you goad them, it's like a red flag in front of a bull or pearls before a swine; you are not doing them a favor, you are starting a fight.

You are not saying you are a animal are you??

See, again this goes back to what I see you and Behold do a lot of the time. You deliberately incite debate, but that's not what Jesus was up to there. He wasn't looking for responses and he wasn't interested in having a conversation with them. He was TELLING them exactly what they needed to hear, and that's it. No discussion was intended, nor did they have any.

That's the difference.

Strife and debate are personal choices.

Much love!

Yes, but so are our decisions on how we address people. How we do so can either encourage or discourage both, so there is always an evaluation process that needs to go on, and we need to be sensitive to the Spirit so we don't end up just giving license to other people's demons to use them.

But "gentle goading" is deliberately antagonistic, IMO. The word "goading" is used of a type of cattle prod, that causes people to react. I regard this as a way of getting their demons to jump, as it were, and it sets the conversation immediately off in the wrong direction. Granted, their demons will likely goad them in the wrong direction the minute they read truth being posted anyway, but when you goad them yourself it's like you are giving the demons help in doing their job.
I think there was a little gentle "goading" between Paul and the church at Corinth regarding receiving their promised gift.

I get what you are saying, but I get what @GISMYS_7 is saying too I think.

Much love!

Enough!! I hate wasting my time!!

Enough!! yourself, LoL. So do I. :)

But this thread was at least a little productive. Pointed out some good differences between goading and correcting, one which in not really a Christian practice and the other which is.

It's hard for you to kick against the goads . . .

No, no, LoL. God was simply telling Paul, "It is and will continue to be hard for you if you keep fighting against My will."

?

Much love!

But could also come down heavy on people, and sometimes warned, "Shall I come to you with a rod, or in peace?" So he was another one who didn't play around much.

But which passage are you referring to? I think I may know, but I'll wait for you to tell me.

What? I'm telling you that's what Jesus meant when He said those words to Paul. "It is hard for you to kick against the goads," meant "It is hard for you to fight against My will."
What makes you think Jesus wasn't applying some pressure to Paul before that day?

It sounds like you make goads bad then when it's Jesus and Paul, you make goads not goads?

Hard to fight against His will? Naturally! ;) Of course, what He said was, it's hard for you to kick against the goads, as if God were driving Saul with pointed sticks, that Paul resisted, and found that hard to do.

Much love!

Well how about we try and narrow it down to a book then. 2nd Corinthians? And why are you turning this into a quiz, LoL. I may do you like GYSMIS just did to me and say, "Enough!!!!!" Lol.

I'm sorry! That was a synopsis of the passage.

The part around this part:

2 Corinthians 8:24 KJV
24) Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.

2nd Corinthians?

I told you you'd know it!

Much love!

He probably was. That seems to be implied in the statement.

Point granted in a sense. But my contention is that when Jesus was "goading" Paul it was through the continuation of the spreading of the gospel. The more Paul fought against it, the worse it was getting for him because he was fighting a losing battle. But I don't think that's quite the same thing as starting a thread that calls Calvinists a bunch of little men who just want to be in a club.
