Well if this is it, I think that's more along the lines of encouraging or urging (or maybe imploring).

That sounds interesting, actually. I've never read much about Calvin's personal life. You should post something on it and tag me. I know the founders of Protestantism weren't the paragons of virtue that many made them out to be. They had problems. Not that I'd go full on Catholic and say they were demons from Hell, but they were by no means perfect men, and not by a LONG shot.

Calvin returned to Geneva, where he began a long series of reforms.
He redid the church on an apostolic model, with no bishops, clergy of equal status, and lay elders and deacons. All elders and deacons were members of the consistory, a church court. The city was moving toward theocracy, a religious government.
The moral code became criminal law in Geneva; sin became a punishable crime. Excommunication, or being thrown out of the church, meant being banned from the city. Lewd singing could result in the person's tongue being pierced. Blasphemy was punished by death.
In 1553, Spanish scholar Michael Servetus came to Geneva and questioned the Trinity, a key Christian doctrine. Servetus was charged with heresy, tried, convicted, and burned at the stake. Two years later the Libertines staged a revolt, but their leaders were rounded up and executed.

I think it's all in the nuance, trust me, your point isn't lost on me! And maybe one or the other of us sees this as a greater or meager effort, but I'm thinking that his point at the root is sound. People can get caught up in their mutual approval societies to the point of cognitive bias, and we shouldn't be like that. We find our approval in Christ, and then we aren't needy and therefore susceptible.

Wouldn't this thread be more fitting in a blog?I'd think that a better place to vent if someone is in the personal attack mood. Rather than public forum posting that appears to invite others to agree.
My point was don't follow the ideas of little men follow God and God's Word.

And yet you have posted several times in the past trying to defend those who were in fact misleading others and were criticized for doing do. So which "little men" are your favorites?

What about those who would see the Five Points as Biblical, but who don't particularly use the label......
