Being conformed to his image should not be classified as being made "divine". A created being can never be divine.

I’ve defined “divine” as being “godlike”. You’re saying that a created being can never be godlike?

The substance of divinity is eternal and outside the created realm of space and time.

That sounds like “divine” defined as “deity” to me.

Be careful you don't swallow the original lie from Satan "Ye shall be as God"

In post #18 I quoted a tweet posted on X / Twitter by Dr. Michael Horton wherein he asserted, “We are deified by grace.” I disagree with his assertion. I don’t want to put words in your mouth but it appears to me from what you‘ve said that you disagree with that assertion too.

By vocation, we were created to be the Imago Dei from the very beginning. But an image is not the real thing.

Jesus, our brother, is the perfect image of the Father.

We, I would say, are a blemished or tarnished image of the Father and the Father is making us like our brother to become the perfect image of the Father that he is.

An Orwellian spin. Lucifer wanted to be "as God" too. Look where it got him.

Lucifer wanted to take God’s place. I shouldn’t have to add this but I feel that I do: I don’t want to take God’s place.

God himself made Moses “as God” to Pharaoh (Exodus 7:1). Look where it got him.

That's because divine equates to deity.

I see that you are using it that way but that isn’t the only way that the word is defined.

Your echo of Genesis 2:24 and its imagery of sexual intercourse as a metaphor for the joining of two people into a single family-unit threw me and started me thinking of non-spiritual matters. This is all your fault.

What do you think of Theosis? Your use of "being joined with Him" resonates with "participating in the divine life" and "union with God" description I quoted in post #9.

Postscript: Theosis doesn't have any particular appeal to me; quality control engineers don't make good mystics. But it's an oddity around here, and my aforementioned friend on the other forum had a mystical bent, so I'm curious.
There are biblical examples: fish school, birds flock--birds of a feather, etc. But the greatest are of the two becoming one, where we somehow (by God) become less and He increases, His spirit entering into us in a way that it is even He who speaks, rather than we ourselves. In this same way, if we have seen Christ, we have even seen the Father, as if One--and that is what is written of them--and us. As if the gift of eternal life is Godly DNA to operate in unison--as different parts of the same body, as it were.

I quoted you saying "as God" and comparing it to "Lucifer." It's enough.
You didn't quote me at all. You wrested and twisted my words into some vile lie. What I said is this:

"Being conformed to his image should not be classified as being made "divine". A created being can never be divine."

Matt- See the definitions of GOD. Which do you apply to Jesus? Seriously?
You mess with words like Jws. Oh please. LOL If we read the definitions of deity and divine- then satan could be considered both. So those words are useless in this argument. What a ridiculous stance to take.
Your problem is simple. You don't accept what is clearly written. THE WORD BECAME FLESH = JESUS.
WHO CREATED? You will say God. WE AGREE! But did the WORD create? That's where you veer off into tragedy.
THERE is ONE God who created all things. He had no help. We agree! He created thru HIS Word. All things were spoken into existence. If you can't accept that HIs Word is JESUS who is GOD then you DENY Jesus.-

You struggle is with being able to distinguish between the two natures in Jesus. Mom- human. Dad- GOD. He is BOTH. He took on FLESH. He humbled Himself and BECAME a servant!!!!!!!
Ok- next.............

Shaliah. The Jewish concept leaves me with his God - the one God of Israel, which I’ve demonstrated repeatedly from scripture - and you with another.

This thread is about how the one God makes us like our brother, the Messiah.

So you use the dictionary only when it suits you. I see.
and you utterly ignored what I've written.
Yes we are becoming more like our brother- Jesus on the earth.-Through the spirit while we are still in the flesh.
We grow to be more like His godly nature. and we share his flesh nature. BUT we will never be Him. He is CREATOR- WORD.
When we walk in our flesh- we are awful.
When we walk in the SPIRIT which only those who are born anew have-- then we are more like Jesus.

We call it "power of attorney" and Jesus is much more than that.

When you make a statement like "The Father is making his people divine" the you can expect a challenge on how you define "divine"

I welcome the challenge. What I want is for my position to be set beside the positions of others.

Jewish monotheism is the monotheism of Israel.
