Matthew gave us Joseph’s genealogy. He emphasized Jesus' royal and legal line through David and Solomon.

Luke gave us Mary’s genealogy, emphasizing on the biological or genetic line, through David and Nathan.

Luke focused on Mary's side of the pregnancy story. Gabriel visited Mary in Luke 1. Mary visited Elizabeth. Mary' song was recorded in Luke 1. The name Joseph appeared 4 times in Luke 2, Mary 6 times.

NKJV Luke 3:

23 Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, the son of Heli.
My interpretation:

Now Jesus Himself began His ministry at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed the son of Joseph) the son of Heli (the father of Mary).
Heli was the father of Mary. Jesus was the grandson of Heli.

See also How was it that Jesus was a son of David when Joseph was not his biological father?.

Joseph wasn't Jesus' biological father, however Jesus is of the seed of promise given to David.
Mary is the physical vessel by which he came into the world also given to David.

Both the spiritual and the physical in one.

According to promise, Sarah was beyond bearing age and yet she concieved and bare Isaac.
Ruth was a Moabite which gave birth to Obed, father of Jesse, which led to the birth of David.

One by promise the other through the flesh.
Yet one promise.

Jew and Gentile

Israel after the flesh and Israel after the Spirit.
Promised land and Kingdom of God.

One must decrease and the other increase.
:D

I get confused over who was the father of Zerubbabel? ;) Pedaiah? Shialtiel?
There was a curse on the heritage of King Jeconiah, and Shialtiel may have been childless, passing his name on to his younger brother.

Lord Jesus did not pass through the lineage of Solomon. Jesus was born from the seed of David via David's son Nathan. As was the custom, the son's lineage was measured from the father's side, which would have been Mary's husband Joseph.

Some Jews try to argue that Jesus is not legit because He didn't come through Solomon's lineage. That is not true, Nathan's line from his father David is well enough.
