What does the Meat of the Word mean to you and how does one begin to digest that meat?
Is there a certain realization or experience that moves us from Milk to meat? A condition in mankind that is prone to division that must be overcome? If so explain.
I was thinking...

If the word "doctrine means teaching" .
Like sitting in a classroom and being taught something...
What is the next phase after having been taught, then to put into practice?

My Meat is to DO the will of Him that sent me.

I think meat means putting what you've learned into practice.
Why be taught a skill if your not going to use it?
And there are a lot of skills to learn.
Patience, long-suffering, kindness.. to name a couple..

Just thinking..

So then you don't think of the new man as a new creature, more that who we are before knowing Christ becomes changed by being joined to Him? Is that fair to say?

Much love!
If I think I understand what you're saying, then, yes, that is fair to say.
We are a new creature in that we think and act differently. It's the same 'you', but now cleansed and driven by a new engine, the engine of the Holy Spirit.

And the "old man" as such, the original you, no longer exists, but has been transformed into the new you.

Still on track?

Much love!

Notice how the author of Hebrews says we are to "leave the elementary teachings about Christ" (Hebrews 6:1). Wow! That might get you thrown out some churches that don't know better, lol. But there it is. Just like when our mommies fed us milk. She wasn't preparing us to drink milk the rest of our lives but preparing us to eat steaks! As we are able.

Lot's of Good comments here, thank you all for participating. Most have commented on "What is meat", I would like to turn the focus to the second part of my question....

"What does the Meat of the Word mean to you and how does one begin to digest that meat?"
Is there a certain realization or experience that moves us from Milk to meat? A condition in mankind that is prone to division that must be overcome? If so explain.

Myself an @marks have touched on this a bit in our discussion, particularly the condition of mankind that is prone to division, but we have not fully gotten into what that experience or moment was like when each of us moved from milk to meat....if you know what I am asking?

So the Bible says you should love your enemies. Do good to those that are mean to you.
I can read it. I can know it. But now I have to put that into practice.
I have to DO it.
In my own personal experience...
I have an 86 year old father who has a 78 year old girlfriend. They been together for over 20 years. I have just come on the scene that last 5 years, after having been hmm.. awol the last 20 busy with my own life.
Now she is very possesive. But my dad is going through some medical issues at this time and he needs to stay with me probably for a good while.
I am living in a mobile home he doesn't use because he has been living with her at her house. Now her house is pretty crowded. She does crafts, and has a tendency to be a hoarder (putting it mildly) and he can't get around her place and walk and exercise as he needs to.
So he has decided to come stay with me.

For the last 5 years that I have been "in the picture" , it has been pretty intense between me and his girl. She doesn't like me, at all.
When I talk she rolls her eyes and curses under her breath, exasperated that I dare even open my mouth.
I'm not the type that enjoys confrontation to begin with, BUT SOMETIMES!!!

And always, just as I'm about to come back with some smart alec remark, I think to myself.. what is the right way to deal with this?
And it always comes back to: Love overcomes Hate.
And the more I put into practice the actual forgiving as the occurance is happening, those feelings of resenfulness or hurt get less and less.
Instead of reacting in the moment, I just focus on trying to make a bad situatioin better. Sometimes it's just being silent and letting the moment pass. Other times it's trying to gently reason without getting upset or impatient.

I've never been one to hold a grudge, but I usually have a tendency to say what's on my mind. And sometimes I can say things not very nice.

In the midst of being crucified and dying on the cross. After having been subjected to torture and humiliation,
Jesus could have lashed out and said, Father destroy them. There is no good in them.
But he didn't.
He asked His Father to forgive them for they knew not what they were doing.

To me, this is moving from the milk to the meat.
Not only knowing what the will of God is, But performing it as well.

My Meat is to DO the Will of Him that sent me.
What is God's will?

Just my thoughts..
Hugs

Heb 5:12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,

Heb 5:13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.

Heb 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

Heb 6:1 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

Heb 6:2 and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

Beautiful picture Ziggy, God has used hardship and someone with a hard heart to teach you the meekness of Christ and put it into practice.

From Strong's concordance on the word "meek" (G4239, praus)

  1. mildness of disposition, gentleness of spirit, meekness

Meekness toward God is that disposition of spirit in which we accept His dealings with us as good, and therefore without disputing or resisting. In the OT, the meek are those wholly relying on God rather than their own strength to defend against injustice. Thus, meekness toward evil people means knowing God is permitting the injuries they inflict, that He is using them to purify His elect, and that He will deliver His elect in His time (Isa 41:17, Luk 18:1-8). Gentleness or meekness is the opposite to self-assertiveness and self-interest. It stems from trust in God's goodness and control over the situation. The gentle person is not occupied with self at all. This is a work of the Holy Spirit, not of the human will (Gal 5:23).

This truly is the meat of the word.... and a great verse you quoted there as per this OP....

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. (John 4:34)

when we first go out into the wilderness to see, our perspective is what is it? but then we fairly quickly accept—usually bc we are taught, i guess—some doctrine or fact or verse as “fact,” and then become blind to the other vv that contradict or condition the v or fact or doctrine that we have now accepted as “gospel,” putting us in a perfect place to go argue our “facts” with other believers who have accepted the opposite “facts” for the rest of our lives, shunning or even killing them if necessary
