Also if he is Antichrist how could he claim to be Christ? "I am the Christ ... ah ... whom I am against."

The Pope is not the beast/Antichrist. Sure, a few of the reformers had that idea, but the truth, at least as I understand it, is that the Antichrist is in reality the institution of the Papacy... The succession of popes being it's embodiment. The Pope is merely the spokesperson for the paisano at various times and seasons. Sometimes what he says is good and right. Sometimes not. But understanding the meaning of the word Antichrist, helps one to understand it's significance in context to catholicism.

The succession of popes being the embodiment of the anti-Christ is scourging Our Lord's body. There are varying degrees of anti-Catholic bigotry, but this is more than a venomous attack. It's more like religious psychosis.
