Because people make up a society, and the people in that society are constantly changing as some die, and some are born.

A norm is merely a statistical description of some factor.

People sometimes use it informally to mean something like "standards" or "folkways." Things change as events and membership of a society changes.

The 'norm' : Similar to 'common sense'! Really always changing according to circumstances, but people speak of it as if everyone knows what it is to them. Quite often, or even most often, it is not!

Yes, I wish I had put it that way.

so then why does it change, because people die really? you seem to like to talk politics what makes you think the norm exists at all? its really a concept isn't it? and no its not "common sense" common sense would be, don't stick the fork in to the wall plug, that doesn't change. "norm" is a socially perceived environment that that is expected and accepted by the majority.

like what's on tv today compared to what would be on tv in the 50's and 60's. that is norm. or what is perceived as acceptable behavior.

And others are born. Over time, norms change.

Assuming missing punctuation, statistics. There's always a norm.

Normal humans, according to evolutionary theory, have sex with as many people as possible, have as many babies as possible, protect their own children in a prejudical manner, and value other people's children as less valuable.

No. That's wrong. For example, while it might serve a man to have as much sex with as many women as possible in a complete anarchy, that's not the way human societies work. And of course, that strategy would be a complete failure for women, who must invest time and energy into every single offspring. And while we do favor those we love more than others, the fact that adopted kids are usually loved as much as natural children shows that assumption to be a failure, too.

Evolutionary theory shows that human cooperation has a very high survival value, as opposed to the "every man for himself" behavior supposed by creationists.

The norm for caring for children, regardless of parentage is so strongly built into human nervous systems that (as Mencius commented almost a thousand years ago), even the most hardened criminal, seeing an infant crawling near the edge of a well, has an impulse to run and remove it from the danger.

The norm is what most approve of in any culture. It is assumed that 'the norm' is the right and proper way of seeing and behaving. It is fallen man's miserable attempt at some sort of reference point to sanity.

The norm of God however is perfection.....it is the standard his government runs by.....his Commandments. Man in his self righteousness takes God's Commandments and attempts to modify them.....here we see how Man is intent on making God in his image.....a God he can control.

This is the norm of all who do not know God.....from the human sacrificing pagan of ancient times to the time serving, lip servicing modern day 'Christian' who puts out a respectable image.

To find out what the norm is just take a look at what the abnormal is. How do I know what is abnormal? Simple. Look at the consequences of abnormal action.

For instance, I am informed by those that know that thousands of studies have been conducted into what creates the best environment for children. All have come to the same conclusion and that is to be raised by a loving mother and father who are married to each other in a monogamous relationship.

That being the case, it becomes the norm evidenced by various factors like a high achievement at school; not part of the prison population; a giver rather than a taker; obedient to parents; not plagued with mental problems; not a drug taker; not given to violence to solve problems and so on.

The opposite is also evidenced by low achievement in school; part of the prison population; a taker rather than a giver; disobedient to parents; plagued with mental problems; drug-taking; given to violence to solve problems and so on.

One relevant fact. The prison population in the USA is 80% black. 60% of black children grow up without a father in the home.

So in a word, common sense will tell you what is normal and common sense will tell you what is abnormal and the New Testament can fill in the gaps for you.

And in case you had not noticed, the family is God's revelation of what the church should be and what creation should be. That is why Satan is on a full-frontal to destroy the family. He does not care if you get married as long as you get divorced. Every Christian who divorces is doing Satan's work for him. Please don't make judgments based on the exception to the rule because the exception does not make the rule.

One relevant fact. The prison population in the USA is 80% black.

It was engineered to be so. Perhaps not intentionally, but it became a substitute for other social controls. A lot of people suppose the "war on drugs" was mostly responsible, but that's not the case. The rise in the proportion of black prison inmates began in the 1930s. And one should make a distinction between the number of black inmates and the percentage of black inmates; we built a lot of prisons, many of them private with contracts that require a certain number of beds filled. So society is putting more inmates into prison, regardless of race.

It's an interesting thing that the rise in black prison populations began in the early 1930s.

Data from https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/nij/125618.pdf

Notice it began to fall in the 1980s. Why is that so interesting?

It has to do with automobiles. You see, in the late 20s, manufacturers began adding tetraethyl lead to gasoline. It does a lot of good things for automobiles, but it ends up in the form of lead dust from emissions, particularly in high density urban areas. And of course, it accumulates around lead smelters.

And BTW, that rise in violent crime went from the 30s to the 80s, by which time, leaded gasoline was removed, and the levels of both lead and crime dropped. And yes, white crime also rose noticeably during the same period, and then fell.

But almost entirely poor whites and poor blacks. Hence the hypothesis (which is probably at least partially true) that poverty is a cause of crime. But it is true that lead poisoning at chronic low levels predisposes one to violence and low impulse control. Complicate that with many single parent households, and there's the perfect storm; obviously, a child with only one parent will have less exposure to parenting than one with two, all other things being equal.

But as the levels of lead in inner cities fell, so did violent crime. And for a long time, the percentage of single parent families did not fall. In fact, it rose. See the graph. But violent crime rates fell.

"This is a disease that primarily impacts African-Americans," Chachᅢᄄre said. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children of color whose families are poor and who live in housing built before 1950 have the highest lead poisoning risk.

On average, between 1999 and 2004, black children were 1.6 times more likely to test positive for lead in their blood than white children. And among children who tested positive for extremely high lead levels (≥10 micrograms per deciliter), the disparity was even more stark. Black children were nearly three times more likely than white children to have highly elevated blood-lead levels, the type of lead poisoning where the most damaging health outcomes occur.
There Is No Such Thing As A 'Safe' Lead Level

The "war on drugs" with wildly disparate (and scientifically indefensible) sentences for cocaine used by white people and cocaine used by black people had an effect. But most people in prison aren't drug users; they are truly violent and dangerous people. The kind of people produced by lead poisoning.

There is also the fact that young male adults commit most crimes and the proportion of young male adults in the population has fallen. So it's complicated.

The evidence suggests that single-parent families can be a factor in crime, but evidently not the most important factor. In fact, violent crime rose and then fell, even as the percentage of single-parent homes increased:

there may always be a "norm" but that norm changes to another form or substance that is acknowledged by the majority as "norm"

I like how you shoved that rant in there, but yes your right no doubt about it. but if I may, one should understand perfect means fulfilled in scriptural terms, God told Abraham to be perfect and the old def. for perfect in the OED is to be fulfilled. Jesus is perfect because He is the Fulfillment according to the Father of what man was created to be.

hence the rest unfulfilled without the fulfillment of Christ, fall sort, so on and so forth.
