What Satan is achieving is a miserable picture of God. He paints God with his own attributes and uses scripture to that end.

A hell which burns unendingly where people are tortured unendingly is one such projection.
In general he has painted God as itching to get revenge who attempts to coerce mankind with threats.

I almost chuckle when I hear our more Reformed brethren say a man must be spiritually regenerated to understand the Gospel, when "the Gospel" we hear preached is "believe in Jesus Christ or this God who so loves The World is going to burn you forever and ever and ever". What's so spiritual and hard to understand about that message? An appeal to self-preservation is about as Fleshy a message as you can get.

But I have to ask then, this miserable picture of God - what is it rooted in?

Hell is no picture painted by Satan, but is a biblical reality, that will be followed by eternal torment in the lake of fire for the wicked

Revelation 20:11-15KJV
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

A misunderstanding of God's intentions....just as the Jews misunderstood God's intentions to the point of killing the very one promised to deliver them.

It's how one reads, not what one reads. How one hears/reads determines everything. It was not for no reason Jesus repeatedly stated 'if you have ears to hear then hear'

You can post "How" all you want, it isn't going to remove the biblical fact that Hell & The Lake Of Fire are a biblical reality

Careful. There would be no hell if Satan was God.

A misunderstanding of God's intentions....just as the Jews misunderstood God's intentions to the point of killing the very one promised to deliver them.
God intended to commit suicide?

If the Jews had not insisted, by what means would God have accomplished the Atonement? Was not the whole law since the time of Moses not leading to that very moment? A moment at which point, they had totally trashed the original intent of the Law of Sinai any ways. The religion of the day, Judaism, had already replaced the Law of Moses.

"And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself:"

"He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living:"

God seemed pretty clear in God's intentions.

The only way they could be saved is by what they did. The problem was they were so desperate, they made an oath to God. If they had avoided that point, they probably would have had less misery following them. Jesus had also warned them not to make an oath. It was not necessary. The oath was their downfall. The Atonement was their salvation.

This weak atheistic snowflake generation can't handle the fact that God is a tough no-nonsense father figure, but that's exactly why I like him myself..:)

I'm fully aware of what scripture states below, Hell and The Lake Of Fire are biblical realities in God's words of truth, read it again and again

The cult of Jehovah's Witnesses also denies Hell and the Lake Of Fire, you don't stand alone

Revelation 20:11-15KJV

God does not need the death of Jesus or anybody to forgive. God forgives because that is what love does.
Jesus came to reveal God's nature/character and we couldn't bear it....we killed him......and God knew it was going to happen but he came anyway. He even told us ahead of time through the Prophets this would happen .....and we read it, turn it around like good pagans and make out as if God only forgives when there is death. What a travesty!

We assume God creates a lake of fire because scripture is interpreted through the lens of human revenge......not the revelation of God in Jesus.

Have you considered the lake of fire which embraces the whole world at the given time is man made?

Revelation 20:7-10 speaks of an attempt to take the New Jerusalem by the resurrected wicked. Is it supposed this attack will be with bows and arrows?....no no, it'll likely be with highly advanced nuclear technology and in the process destroy themselves and the planet.....it'll become a lake of fire.

2 Peter 3:7 'By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly'.

Isn't there a scripture like this?

The hand that wounds is the hand that heals?

Yes, if people turn to God he'll forgive them their past sins, but if they carry on being naughty he'll rightly give them the chop, they had their chance..:)
"Ungodly...These men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed.." (2 Peter 2:12)
