I have been reading a lot of the books of the prophets, and all I can say is wow, they had a hard row to hoe; reading Lamentations, Isaiah, Jeremiah - these guys really felt the blows that God dealt them thru the punishments God layed on His people.
I am not sure, but what can we learn from the prophets? I mean today, we accept and receive Christ's sacrifice for our sin, and we forget the past, and move ahead, looking for the prize set before us. How much are we supposed to dwelve into the sufferings of the prophets before enough is enough? Before our Heavenly Father reminds us He is doing a new work in our midst, do we perceive it? Sorry I can't find the verses to some of this.

I am pretty stuck in 1st gear, and I have, thru reading these book, had a new sense of my sinfulness. I've been brought pretty low. I think I need to return to Jesus, because I know He cares for me.

We are way more stoked than they were then because they had a veiled revelation of God where we have the full revelation in Jesus Christ...

We never forget the past at all and we can learn a lot from the prophets and in dwelling on them it is never enough as there is a rich blessing.
In seeking you may perceive.
Be thankful of that others have given to us, as it was a gift.

Much of the Books of the OT prophets are to serve as examples for us today... per Apostle Paul...

1 Cor 10:1-12
1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, 'The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.'
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
(KJV)

Besides the examples in the lessons examples, a lot written in the OT prophets has never come to pass yet. They're not all past history like some ministers wrongly preach.
