1 Corinthians 12:10 (for the edification of the Church)
The gift of interpretation of tongues interprets as these from the gift of diverse kinds of tongues:
for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. 6 But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?
Those are all for the profit of the Church. The gift of interpretation of tongues interprets the gift of diverse kinds of tongues (above). Those with these gifts are like having an office in a Church; not everyone has these gifts. 1 Corinthians 12:30.
Mark 16:17-18 (for the edification of the individual)
Tongues as supernatural prayer language. "Praying in the Spirit."
17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
All who believe have these signs following them, for their individual empowerment and protection, whether they know it or not.
