Collection of advice, articles, and resources for wives with unGodly husbands.

I want to find even resources for situations beyond my experience and ability to help --- when to call the police, expert help with abuse, etc. Those major issues are beyond me as an individual.
A woman is to submit to all things except those that are unbiblical. This includes things illegal or immoral. Otherwise He is the head! this can really suck sometimes if he is heading in a negative direction but the bible does not give a caveat if he makes a wrong decision.

The wife has a right to make an appeal and try to show why her decision would be better, but if in the end he demands his way- you must submit even though it may bring negative consequences.

A situation like this, is most likely much more complicated than it seems.

A woman who ends up in an abusive relationship, has ignored red flags, indicating that the partner does not respect boundaries, and is not likely to respond to Christ for salvation, even if he claims it already. He may be feigning it to win the woman and vice versa.

The reason why the woman (though it could be the man) has done this is highly likely due to trauma from childhood where she did not feel safe enough to develop properly.

She may think 'oh no, my parents were good ones' when they were too preoccupied to provide the safety needed, without obvious abuse. Neglect is abuse. In this scenario, the woman may leave but find herself once again in a similar relationship when she has not recovered from her cPTSD.

It would do her great good if she studies to see if cPTSD applies to her and get herself into therapy (carefully choosing a therapist once one has studied enough) and read the work of trauma specialists like Bessel van der Kolk at least to save her children from passing the trauma on.

People may think that once becomes a believer, one will be automatically healed from this. Not so. There is damage to the nervous system that needs special methods.

A good therapist, when they hear about the situation the client is living in, and knowing that there must be a feeling of safety in order to recover from cPTSD, will likely advise that the abuser is requested to leave so that they can work on themselves at the same time. NOT together.

It has been my experience that church leaders haven't a clue how to deal with this situation.
