I think a lot of it is every nation for itself really.

Just like every man for himself.

It’s a very negative way for some to see it however that just my thoughts.

I’ve heard it said before if a shooter came in the building it’s “every man for himself - run!”

Using the government as the means for helping the poor actually puts a price of helping the poor and needy. Because there is only so much money to go around. There are also roads, infrastructure, and even debt to pay down.

I think western nations have helped people more than any nation. The standard of living has increased for many compared to other forms of governance.

The biggest problem I think is that the State has become too involved in helping and this becomes selective according to whatever ideology they support. Or whichever lobby groups manage to influence the State for money. Its a constant battle between activist groups for money. Now NGO's are the new social workers and this has become a big profit industry itself. Which is not really helping out of charity but making money off peoples suffering.

It use to be that the family was the first institution that helped people. But now the family has been broken up this has disappeared. The State now takes over as the family and moral arbitor of what is best.

It also use to be that the church stepped in for free to help and still does. This is true charity and love. We need more of this. helping people for no return. This is being like Christ.
