what is the root of sin?

Sin literally means to miss the mark John, but it actually is understood to mean a violation of the law of God.
@John Stefan 1 John 5.17: "All unreighteousness is sin". It is inherited, going back to Adam. What is Sin exactly? And what is the root of sin? Please explain this and I await some replies.

A Pharisee is found/discovered in and by this response. Sins "manifest themselves" when we turn away from God. Like King David, we all find it difficult to know and understand that we have turned away from a personal relationship with God and become His puppeteer where we are in fact the god of our life.

A sad but true trait we inherited from Adam, the very thing satan told Eve right up front, you can be your own god.
Greetings in Christ JESUS

Yes, this was/is the greatest sin, to want be equal with God but only after he had been induced by Satan, so Adam acted equal to Satan's intent and under his dominion. JESUS, as a man, did not do that, and He is our great and wonderful example, being the brightness of GOD's glory, and the express image of GOD's person. "Who, being in the form of GOD, thought it not robbery to be equal with GOD" - Philippians 2:v.6:
As you said,"A sad but true trait we inherited from Adam,(after disobedience to what GOD commanded him not to do) the very thing satan told Eve right up front, you can be your own god". JESUS, as a man, did not do that, and He is our great and wonderful example, "being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of GOD's person", as is written in Hebrews 1:v.3. And the Lord God said: Behold, the man IS BECOME as one of us. How? Knowing good and evil simply, that's it.
Then the good that the man would want to do, does not do (he has no dominion over himself), so he only does evil that he would not want to do. And this man does it, because he is dominated only and only by the evil acquired consequently and automatically by disobeying the order that God had given him.
Many things we can comment about, of course.
Thanks Osa, Jesus was the perfect example of humility and submission in the service of his God for sure, our example to follow 1 Pet 2:21. One thing to make perfectly clear however like Philippians brings out, equality with God is not something to be grasped. Jesus openly stated that God was greater than he was Jn 14:28, but we should never forget he is God's right hand man so to speak, and that there is a chain of command in the Christian faith.
Sin also destroys and effects not only yourself, but others around you. It can even effect your relationship with God. Paul talks about dying to sin, however that he is carnal and sold under sin. That sin can come up and rise up out of us but it is not us indeed it is the flesh. The flesh can cause us problems when it starts to become active, compared to allowing the Holy Spirit to flow instead which the spirit of Christ, helps us hold our flesh back.
From having all types of tendencies.
One of the best ways to get a grip on the Flesh and understand it is from Paul writing to Galatians.
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
These sins, can not enter into the kingdom of God because they are all from the fallen nature of Man, however all the things pertaining to the spirit will be able to enter. Therefore as you go through life, lean on building the new spiritual person, inner creation that has been created having been born again by the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank you,
In Christ,
