Beloved, I’ve often contemplated what this implies.
John 19:30 KJV
[30] When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Tecarta Bible
The work in the man Jesus was finished, but for you me, it was only an opportunity for a new beginning. Jesus opened the Gate/Door that was shut to everyone when Adam and Eve were put outside of the Garden of Eden. For it to be finished for us, we must be properly prepared [wearing proper garment: Matt 22:11-13] and enter in so as to partake of that other tree, the one Adam and Eve neglected: The Tree of Life. How does one partake of it?
"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God." Rev 2:7
To partake we must overcome as Jesus overcame:
"These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world." John 16:33
Jesus did not overcome planet Earth. We can look around us and see that he did not. He overcame the fleshly world of the man Jesus. We see it when he met with the devil in Matthew chapter 4. When we truly overcome we are no longer dead but we then have that Life which Jesus brought:
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10
We see a bit of the application here:
"But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." matt 4:4
We need the Word of God [which = Jesus] in order to overcome and to Live.
What do we need to overcome? How about those things which when followed would lead us back to sin?
"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." I John 2:16
Remember that the world is NOT planet Earth but our own little world full of these temptations, these beasts, until we have through the wisdom of God killed them all:
"Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:
She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table" Prov 9:1-2
