2 Peter 3:18,

Do you realize the greatest hindrance to spiritual is you trying to be like Jesus. Acting out Jesus of Nazareth, that is the Christ that walked the earth. You are not the Christ that walked the earth, your not Jesus. You are you, you are the created you with Christ in you now if your born again. Anything else will be an imitation of truth. Why is that? because when you act out some other person you are not being you. You know why we do that? because we do not like what we are at times and try to portray something else. But truth is! you living and expressing Christ life reavealed. Christians have a hard time with this, one reason it does not fall in your lap. It is a desired understanding that is shed abroad by truth teaching and the HolySpirit working to bring you to sound understanding.
Another reason as mentioned is; we have been taught so much stuff of man, when the HolySpirit is trying to teach us truth we reject it for the lessor man-made doctrines. It is all we know, it's like Israel of old when confronted with the message of grace. All they knew was law, if they gave up law there was no relationship with God, in their mind anyway. That was the task of the apostles to work through. So it is with modern Christianity, never willing to move with present truth and the end result is growth is hindered. And did I mention that religion needs you in the dark to keep you oiling it's gears to keep it running.
Our adversary is a cunning devil who uses deception over every weapon he uses. So religion is a Satan inspired deception of the truth, always parallel but never quite all truth. That is the deceptive angel of light, you would be wise to yield to the HolySpirit. The thing with deception is you do not know you are being deceived, that is why it's called deception. If you are stuck in religion this is your invitation out, the HolySpirit calling you, wooing you. You will know the HolySpirit, you can since his presence, he will not give you a stone, you must trust him. The Godhead bodily are the only ones that can deliver out of religion. Religion has naste claws that will not turn loose.
