Spurgeon:

“A Sermon, ‘THE RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD JESUS’, delivered on Sabbath Morning, April 9, 1882”

Spurgeon: “Then comes the grand truth, that as soon as ever the third sun commenced His shining circuit Jesus rose again. … before the sun had risen His dead body was quickened. … This is the truth which is still to be taught, refine it who may, spiritualize it who dare. This is the historical fact which the apostles witnessed; this is the truth for which the confessors bled and died. This is the doctrine which is the key-stone of the arch of Christianity, and they that hold it not have cast aside the essential truth of God. How can they hope for salvation for their souls if they do not believe that "the Lord is risen indeed"?”

GE:

NO! This, <<that as soon as ever the third sun commenced His shining circuit Jesus rose again. … before the sun had risen His dead body was quickened>>, IS NOT <<the grand truth>>, BUT THE GREAT LIE!

This is the LIE which must NOT be <taught>, which must not be <dared to be spiritualized>, however like here <refined>, by whoever like here, even Spurgeon himself!

<This>, <<that as soon as the third sun commenced His shining circuit Jesus rose again (that) before the sun had risen His dead body was quickened>>, is not the <historical fact> of the TIME of day when Jesus rose from the dead; it’s what Spurgeon like all Sunday resurrectionists want you to believe.

And by the way, it is NO <<historical fact the apostles witnessed>> Jesus’ resurrection.

How could they have <witnessed> Jesus rise if they did not even know that He had died because they knew crucified victims usually survived for days?

How could they have <witnessed> Him rise if they did not know that Jesus’ body was buried?

How could they have <witnessed> Him rise if they did not even know which grave and Mary had to tell them?

How could they have <witnessed> Him rise but did not know nor believed Mary who saw the stone away from the tomb?

How could they have <witnessed> Him rise if they all had fled and had left Jesus ALONE even before He was condemned to die or was delivered over to be crucified?

How could they have <witnessed> Him rise then hid themselves for fear of the Jews in total unbelief?!

How could they have <witnessed> Him rise <<as soon as the sun commenced His shining circuit before the sun had risen>> but were the very last to believe that He indeed rose only after He had appeared to them much later after the First Day of the week had been over?

How could <<this>>, be <<the truth for which the confessors bled and died>>?!

Can <<This>> be <<the doctrine which is the key-stone of the arch of Christianity>>?!

And how can <<they [like me] that hold it not have cast aside the essential truth of God>>?!

How can ANY <<hope for salvation for their souls if they do not believe that "the Lord is risen indeed"?>> No one can!
But <<this, that as soon as the third sun commenced His shining circuit Jesus rose again (that) before the sun had risen His dead body was quickened>>, IS ANOTHER MATTER, IS A LIE, IS ARROGANCE OF UNBELIEF AND DISOBEDIENCE!

I think the underlying false assumption is in not noting that even if the account is true, it is simply a descriptive account. There are no prescriptions being suggested in any of the accounts. In other words, there are no prescriptive accounts suggesting that an commandments may now be ignored or profaned.

The glaring problem is that of all the descriptive accounts, this alone is the only one that is adhered to to this day. We see descriptions of observing the Sabbaths, hiding behind locked doors for fear of Jews, taking collections for saints in Jerusalem, and yet none of these are carried out today.

Ironically, when prescriptive statements are made, they are summarily ignored by the vast majority of Christians. Go figure.

Spurgeon:

<<…Christ's rising from the dead was the seal to all His claims. It was true, then, that He was sent of God, for God raised Him from the dead in confirmation of His mission.>>

GE:

<<…for God raised Him from the dead in confirmation of His mission>>, that is, according to Christ, Himself, in <confirmation> of “all the prophets” and of all the Old Testament “Law”. And none of the prophets and no Law of God <missioned> that Christ should rise on the First Day of the week; but all foretold and all confirm, that God greatly triumphed “on the Seventh Day in that He BLESSED the Seventh Day”, and “HALLOWED the Seventh Day”.

“FOR all his works God…”—that is, “…BECAUSE OF all his works, God on the Seventh Day FINISHED”. So, “God FROM all his works…”— that is, “God BECAUSE OF all his works, RESTED”—“REVIVING RESTED”, as <<the seal to all Christ’s claims>>! IN NO OTHER WAY than <<Christ's rising from the dead>>.

ONLY <<Christ's rising from the dead was the seal to all His claims.>> ONLY BECAUSE OF <<Christ's rising from the dead .. was it true that He was sent of God, for God raised Him from the dead in confirmation of His mission>> “according to the Scriptures” “TO FINISH THE WORK THOU HAST GIVEN ME TO DO”! <<He had said himself, "Destroy this body, and in three days I will raise it up." Lo, there He is: the temple of His body is rebuilt! He had even given this as a sign, that as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so should the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, and should then come forth to life again. Behold His own appointed sign fulfilled!”>> WHICH SAYS ALL ABOUT “the third day” HAVING BEEN “the Sabbath” in Matthew 27:62 to 28:1-4 as in all the rest of NEW Testament Scripture.

Spurgeon:

<<So Jesus slept: God's dying Son
Pass'd through the grave, and blest the bed;
Rest here, dear saint, till from His throne
The morning break, and pierce the shade.
Break from His throne, illustrious morn!
Attend, O earth, His sovereign word;
Restore thy trust, a glorious form:
He must ascend to meet his Lord.
>>

GE:
Beautiful and inspiring. God bless his soul. And true in fact, but unfortunately not “in respect of the day so superstitiously revered”. Galatians 4:10

Spurgeon:

“And so I come to my last head, and to the practical conclusion: the bearing of this resurrection upon ourselves. Paul expressly bids us "Remember" it. "Why," says one, "we don't forget it." Are you sure you do not? I find myself far too forgetful of divine truths. We ought not to forget, for this first day of the week is consecrated for sabbatic purposes to constrain us to think of the resurrection. On the seventh day men celebrated a finished creation, on the first day we celebrate a finished redemption. Bear it, then, in mind. Now, if you will remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David rose from the dead, what will follow?”

GE:

On this, I can only comment in Spurgeon’s own words in the same sermon of his,
“Among men there is still a craving after new meanings, refinements upon old doctrines, and spiritualizations of literal facts. They tear out the bowels of the truth, and give us the carcass stuffed with hypotheses, speculations' and larger hopes. The golden shields of Solomon are taken away, and shields of brass are hung up in their stead: will they not answer every purpose, and is not the metal more in favor with the age? It may be so, but we never admired Rehoboam, and we are old-fashioned enough to prefer the original shields of gold. The apostle Paul was very anxious that Timothy at least should stand firm to the old witness, and should understand in their plain meaning his testimonies to the fact that Jesus Christ of the seed of David rose again from the dead.”

All the prophets, and all the Scriptures testify that Jesus Christ rose again from the dead, “ON THE SABBATH’S DAY”! For “this” – Spurgeon’s arrogated “first day of the week” in its “illustrious morn” – NEVER had been “consecrated for sabbatic purposes” as he without any grounds avers, but is a mere “craving after new meanings, refinements upon old doctrines, and spiritualizations of literal facts.”

Spurgeon the mighty preacher of God , HERE, tears out the bowels of the truth, and gives us the carcass stuffed with hypotheses, speculations and all the ‘larger hopes’ of Sunday-sacredness. The golden shield of “the Seventh Day Sabbath of the LORD GOD”, “consecrated” = “sanctified”, “for sabbatic purposes”, in which GOD, “celebrated” = “rested” a “finished” creation, Spurgeon – my heroic preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ –, takes away, and in its stead hangs up the shield of brass like an illustrious Sunday morning, that will not answer any purpose of God. For the brilliance of the Sunday’s holiness is more in favor with the age than with the Word of God.

The original shield of gold of “the LORD GOD’S”, is TODAY his own, "the day The Seventh Day Sabbath OF THE LORD GOD", "the Seventh Day which God thus concerning spake, God the day The SEVENTH Day, from _ALL_ HIS, WORKS, RESTED” -- "rested”, IN THAT GOD RAISED CHRIST [“The ALL in all fulfilling FULLNESS OF GOD”] FROM THE DEAD”,
"by the exceeding greatness of his power which He WORKED
“in the fullness of the Sabbath Day—
“on the mid-afternoon of the Sabbath—
“in the ending of the Sabbath before the First Day of the week—
“as mid-afternoon of the Sabbath—
"in the very afternoon daylight inclining—
"towards the First Day of the week—
"the angel of the lord cast the stone away from the tomb.”
