Jesus said that his betrayal fulfilled verse 7, but you seem to be implying that verse has a future significance. If we consider verses 8-9 within the context of verse 7, a past fulfillment seems appropriate. Most of the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem were killed during the Roman destruction of Jerusalem and Judah, so it seems quite reasonable to look for a fulfillment of verses 8-9 there instead of projecting one into the future.

Also, the Hebrew word translated third part could mean 33% (I suppose), but usually doesn't (if it even does at all). It means the third in a sequence (e.g., the third day), or one of three parts of something (e.g, meal offerings consisted of three parts: two tenths of a deal of flour + a third part consisting of a hin of oil). So the 5 million figure really is just wild speculation.

we need to remember that the old testament is a type and shadow. first let us look at how Christ is introduced in this book. by knowing how Christ is portrayed in each and every book of the bible will help to keep us from getting off track when studying scripture. Christ is the righteous branch in Zechariah.

the thing we need to remember is that God cares little about worldly affairs. God will use worldly affairs to show or explain what he is referring too. since God cares little for worldly affairs that tells me that God is referring to something different.

thus what eric says has validity. also being old testament scripture jews here could be referring to christians since according to the Word we are all jews in God's eyes. but whether or not God is referring to people who are Jews of the heart or through ancestory matters little.

We must love the natural Jew first and bring them out of their covenant of bondage that no man can keep. I do agree that there will be a remnant that will see the earthquake in Jerusalem and turn to God for the Bible says so in Rev.11:13 but will not make the heavenly hope. The Book of Ruth(New covenant Israel) tells of how Israel will be restored to Naomi(Old covenant Israel) by the kinsmen redeemer Boaz who Ruth works the fields for while she remains a faithful daughter-in law to Naomi. This shows our devotion to Israel that a true believer must have for God has not forsaken His people but they have sinned just as the Gentiles and have the option of salvation just as the Gentiles. Anyone who thinks that God wants us to harm the Jewish they are not of God. In fact God is going to gather all the armies of the nations to harm Israel for she is going to be destroyed... but woe! to those who are WILLING to harm her. It is a test!
God has reserved a remnant of 7,000 OT saints who are the whole house of OT Israel and they will die in the earthquake after the two witnesses go up.

Rev 11:13-15
13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
14 The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

The sons of God are birthed to heavenly Jerusalem after the seventh angel sounds in Rev 12 who will rule and reign with Christ. The remnant who turned to God will go with the virgins who were not worthy to escape for they still cling to their fleshly ways not having enough oil(Holy Spirit) and will need to be washed in the Word further for the next 3-1/2yrs once they are birthed in the fullness of Christ and caught up to God's throne and Satan thrown down to earth.
Rev 12:5-6
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

I assume you are my Christian brother. It is important that you have a correct understanding of prophecy. Revelation 19:10 teaches that Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. You will have a better understanding of Jesus when you understand prophecy correctly. I am use to being attacked but maybe you were serious and realy were interested in my point.

Some people teach that the church has replaced Israel.

My point is that God is not done with Israel and will never be done with Israel.

If I show you who Israel is...then perhaps you will see the spiritual application...

Gen 35:10 And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
Gen 35:11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;


The above "company of nations...is..kehal goyim...which also could mean "a congregation of Gentiles." So then God had His people to always be Israel whether by natural birth with a physical circumcision or else a spiritual birth with a circumcision of the heart.

Look up the words "company of nations" in your concordance!!!!
